Up for sale is my 1965 Chevy Corvair Monza 4 door hard top. I purchased it about 3 years ago with intentions of driving it. I drove it around the neighborhood as a golf cart for about 6 months and kind of lost interest and parked it when I couldn't title it. I was finally issued a clear title in my name 11/08/2013, but became a father on 08/14/2013. It has sat in my climate controlled garage for 2 and a 1/2 years without being driven because I couldn't get a title. I went to crank it and it didn't start. I guess it's unreasonable to expect it to crank on 2 1/2 year old gas, but it was worth a shot. With the baby and fiance, I don't want to spend any time or money on it so I figured it's best to just sell it and try to get some of my money back. It was pulled out of the garage today to take pictures of it. I will try to give the best and most honest description, along with detailed pictures. When looking, please remember that the car hasn't been detailed and tire wet and all that other stuff. This is just how it set in the garage.
The antenna is not on, it is in the front trunk. The triangular glass washer bottle that is shown in the front trunk is quite valuable itself, as most of them have been broken. I was offered $250 for the bottle alone from a guy at a local car show trying to complete his corvair. I would plan on putting a paint job on the corvair cause it's far from perfect, but I took a cloth and polished a spot as seen below just to see if the paint was capable of shining. Right before I purchased the car, the previous owner put a brand new $2200.00 interior (including new carpet, door panels, seat upholstery, and headliner. He had also just had 2 brand new carbs put on as well as other things. The car needs new door seals, and the back door seals leaked a little and you can see where it kind of warped the door panels. I'll try and capture it in pictures the best I can. Interior is still in amazing condition. Vinyl was unharmed by the leak, just the door panels need a new piece of wood to stretch the vinyl over. There are very small rust spots on the bottoms, and I am trying to get a picture of each one uploaded. Also the front right door does not seem to want to latch. As I said, I'm trying to do the best job I can do listing everything, but I may leave something out. This vehicle is sold as where is, and delivery is available for $1.00 per loaded mile. I have this vehicle for sale locally and reserve the right to end auction at any time. Call 252-342-2494 to come take a look. Thanks I listed this when I didn't think a title was possible and it went for $1950, reserve not yet, however it was running and driving. I assume having a title more than makes up for the old gas, so that's where I'm starting the auction. |

Fewer than 1 in 3 Chevy dealers earn right to initially sell C7 Corvette
Mon, 01 Apr 2013Looking to make the launch of the 2014 Corvette Stingray as efficient as possible, Chevrolet will be limiting the numbers of its dealers that can sell the all-new coupe and convertible. According to Automotive News, sales of the C7 Corvette will initially be limited to less than a third of Chevy's total dealership network when the 'Vette goes on sale this summer.
Only 900 dealers out of more than 3,000 locations nationwide will be allowed to sell the new Corvette at first, and the reason for this is so that there are no shortages at dealers that can actually get the cars sold. The article says that the 900 dealerships chosen represented 80 percent of total Corvette sales in 2012.
Some of the requirements dealers had to make to get initial allocation of Stingray sales include having sold at least four Corvettes in 2012 and having a Corvette Stingray specialist who will be required to have gone through a training session costing more than $2,000 per attendee. Once demand for the 2014 Corvette Stingray begins to subside - approximately six to nine months after it goes on sale - then allocation could open up to more dealers, but the report indicates this could happen following the 2014 model year.
Chevy Corvette gets Valet Mode with Performance Data Recorder [w/video]
Mon, 18 Aug 2014For the 2015-model-year, Chevrolet introduces Valet Mode for the Corvette, an enhancement to the Performance Data Recorder (PDR) already available and to your peace of mind. The PDR already captures 720p HD video with a windshield-mounted camera, records interior audio with a cabin microphone and gathers telemetry data using GPS, saving the data to an SD card in the glovebox. You can then watch your track-day antics with various information overlays on the center console screen.
Valet Mode will let you hit 'Replay' when your car gets pulled up front smelling vaguely of fricasseed clutch. Turned on by entering a four-digit code, it also locks the interior storage spaces and turns off the infotainment system. It can't be turned off until the code is re-entered. There's a press release below with more information as well as a video that explains how it works, with the obligatory dig at the 'Vette's biggest foe.
800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable
Tue, 01 Oct 2013What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.
