I AQUIRED THIS CAR WITH THE ATENTION OF RESTORING IT TO ITS FORMER GLORY. I HAVE BEEN TAKING IT TO CAR SHOWS AND DRIVING IT AROUND. IT SAT IN A BARN SINCE 2001. A FRIEND OF THE FAMILY BOUGHT IT AND STARTED TO RESTORE IT BUT PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY AND HIS WIFE JUST LET IT SIT IN THERE BARN FOR 14 YEARS. SO I BOUGHT IT DRAINED THE GAS AND PUT A BATTERY IN IT AND IT FIRED RIGHT UP. IT SMOKES SOMETIMES WHEN IT IDELS BUT NOT WHEN DRIVING. IT HAS A SMALL FRONT SEAL TRANSMISSION LEAK THAT I CAN SEE FROM THE SPOT IN MY DRIVEWAY. I AM NOT A MECHANIC SO THATS ALL I CAN TELL YOU OTHER THEN THERE ARE SOME RUST SPOTS STARTING TO COME OUT OF PAINT. IT WAS REPAINTED AROUND 2000 TO THE COLOR SCHEME IT IS NOW. THERE IS SOME RUST UNDERNEATH THAT I CAN SEE BUT LIKE I SAID I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS OTHER THEN THE OCCASIONAL SMOKING. I PUT SEAT COVERS ON ALL THE SEATS SO THEY LOOK NEW THE SEATS UNDERNEATH ARE NOT THAT BAD JUST A FEW RIPS AND TEARS BUT THE SEAT COVERS WORK GREAT. THIS ALREADY STARTED RESTORE CAR IS A GUD RESTORE PROJECT FOR A CAR GUY TO FINISH NOT SOMEONE LIKE ME. ITS FUN TO DRIVE AND EVERYONE ASKS ABOUT IT EVERYWHERE I DRIVE IT. I WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THE BEST I CAN. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE CAR IS 40+ YEARS OLD AND NEEDS RESTORED THE PHOTOS FROM MY EXPERIENCE ALWAYS LOOK BETTER. THE CAR IS IN GOOD SHAPE THE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN TWO DAYS AGO SO THEY ARE CURRENT LIKE I SAID THERE ARE LITTLE SPOTS OF RUST POPPING THROUGH THE PAINT ITS HARD TO SEE FROM THE PHOTOS. I LIKE TO BE UP FRONT AND DONT WANT ANYONE DISAPPOINTED. THANKS

GM trucks get hybrid versions, but you'll probably never see one
Thu, Feb 25 2016A few years ago, General Motors sold hybrid versions of its Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. They weren't very good, using GM's old two-mode hybrid system that resulted in only negligible fuel economy gains. But GM's trying again, launching eAssist models of the 2016 Silverado and Sierra that are said to offer 2-mpg improvements in city, highway, and combined fuel economy ratings. Problem is, you probably won't be able to get one. Only 700 eAssist trucks will be made for the 2016 model year – 500 Silverados and 200 Sierras. When you consider that GM moved 824,683 examples of its light-duty pickups in 2015, this small run represents 0.08-percent of all Silverado/Sierra production, and GM says it "will monitor the market closely ... and adjust as appropriate moving forward." But that's not the only limitation. The eAssist trucks will only be sold through California dealers. For the Silverado, eAssist can only be optioned on the 1500 Crew Cab 1LT 2WD model, and for the Sierra, the fuel-saving technology is solely available on the 1500 SLT Crew Cab 2WD model with the SLT Premium Plus package. Granted, in terms of the Sierra, that means you get niceties like LED headlights and taillights, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bose premium audio, heated seats and steering wheel, lane keep assist, and more. In the trucks, eAssist combines a small electric motor and 0.45-kWh battery pack with the pickups' 5.3-liter V8. GM estimates total output of 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque – no more horsepower than the non-eAssist trucks, but three more pound-feet of torque. GM says the eAssist trucks can tow up to 9,400 pounds, and the battery only adds 100 pounds to the trucks' weight. The electric motor provides 13 hp and 44 lb-ft of torque for a boost of acceleration off the line, or during passing. It also allows the engine to run in four-cylinder mode for longer periods of time. eAssist uses regenerative braking to help power onboard electrical systems, and adds start/stop to the powertrain. Finally, the so-equipped trucks have a six-percent improvement in aerodynamics, thanks to a soft tonneau cover and active grille shutters in the front fascia. Great news is, the eAssist option is relatively inexpensive, only costing $500. But good luck getting your hands on one.
GM tinkering with Silverado, Sierra model mix amidst strong early sales
Mon, 04 Nov 2013Variety, as they say, is the spice of life. That's a lesson that is currently being taught to General Motors, because despite a strong showing from its 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, the General's pickup sales still can't best those of cross-town rival Ford.
With 59,163 trucks moved, GM fell just over 1,000 units short of toppling Ford, and one of the main reasons for that, according to GM's chief sales analyst, was due to a lack of variety in the engines and body styles available on dealer lots. "We are still over-weighted toward crew-cab V8 trucks. Our light-duty mix will moderate over time as our launch progresses," said Kurt McNeil.
Loading dealers with the popular combination of the 5.3-liter V8 and the four-door, Crew Cab body style was intentional during the truck's launch, but as supplies of leftover 2013 models, which are being sold at heavy incentives, are beginning to wane, both budget-conscious and high-dollar buyers are looking elsewhere instead of at the volume model pickups.
The Volt Dance had precedent; meet the Chevy Footlockers
Sun, Dec 14 2014Marketing in the auto industry can get weird sometimes – really quite bizarre, in fact. For example, remember the Chevy Volt dance from the 2009 Los Angles Auto Show? If not, a group boogied to a song about the electric car, and it was every bit as awkward (and hilarious) as that sounds. In fact, that innocent bit of promotion lives in infamy, as some pundits grabbed hold of it during General Motors' bailout and asked why America's tax dollars were going to such things. The Chicago Auto Show has been digging through its vault of vintage videos, and it has come up with something that might actually be worse than that Volt-themed routine. They're called the Chevy Footlockers, and they're a dance troupe somehow promoting the Cavalier at the 1988 Chicago show. The connection between the car and their routine is unclear, but it's gloriously cheesy in a Chippendales-meets-AC Slater sort of way. Also, there are props towards the end, but we aren't going to spoil them for you, because you just have to watch for yourself. As a bonus, there's another (brief) clip below showing a female dance group with the Geo Tracker at the '91 Chicago show, and they sing, too. Scroll down to watch both of these oddities.
