This is a very special Corvair. I puchased the car several years ago from a dealership, as it had been a trade in. I suspect that whoever had this super restoration done probably passed and whoever inhertied the car didn't know what it was.
This car is totally professionally rebuilt from top to bottom. Every part of the car is like brand new, ie wiring, lights, chrome, engine, tranny, interior, underbody, trunk, engine compartment, the more you look, the better it gets.. There is not one spec of rust anywhere, no body dings, suspension is outstanding, tranmission is tight, and the motor runs very will, with th 4 carb setup (this is a 1965 engine)
I had the carbs rebuilt by a long time dedicated Corvair mechanic in Black Mountain NC and he fixed the gas tank float while he had it. I also replaced both rear axel bearings with rebuilt units from Clarks Corvair. Other than that, I've driven to NC to have the title validated with there investigation which is required on all cars over 15 years old. This is to verify that the car wasn't stolen, rebuilt,, kit car, etc and mine passed just fine. The trip added over 1,000 miles to the car and it was a very nice ride, especially with the cruise control.
The car probably started out life as a Monza, but is now Spydered as far as badging and dash. As stated the engine is the 1965 140hp model, the seats are cloth from some other car, the tilting steering wheel with the cruise paddle is out of a later model Chevy. Look at the pictures, they really show the quality of this car, especially take not of the trunk and the dual master cylinder , boosted brake job. No one I've talked to has seen this in a Corvair. And the attention given to the engine bay, it is a work of art itself. Power top works perfectly and there is a white boot cover, but I don't use it as I put the top up and down a lot.
This car needs absolutely nothing, it's perfect as it is. So if you buy it, just drive it and change the oil.

Use this PowerPoint when convincing your spouse to let you buy a Corvette
Thu, 14 Feb 2013When you are not the one in charge of the purse strings, creativity is a must when trying to get the string-holder to bankroll that next shiny object you just can't live without.
When I was a kid, I decided that life wasn't worth living if it weren't in pursuit of owning a GMC Typhoon. My 12-year-old self crafted a fiscal strategy that, when combined with my offer of a 49-percent share of ownership in the car in return for my parents' contribution of 80-percent of the purchase price, would see me behind the wheel of a Typhoon by the time I hit college. They walked away from the negotiating table and, the economic climate of the 8th grade being what it was at the time, another partner wasn't found before the Typhoon was discontinued.
Roy El-Rayes, however, has succeeded where 12-year-old me failed, and he did it by using the sort of professionalism that only a PowerPoint presentation can provide, along with some humor and bold-faced flattery.
2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra debut all-new designs, three new engines
Thu, 13 Dec 2012General Motors has finally dropped the curtain on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra. Both trucks have undergone substantial revisions with updated versions of the company's 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 engines. In a shot across the bows of both Ford and Chrysler, GM says it won't use a V6 engine adapted from passenger car applications. Instead, it developed the 4.3-liter engine based on its proven truck-duty architecture.
All three mills will boast direct injection fuel systems as well as a new cylinder head design. Combined with a revised piston, the new engines feature a smaller combustion chamber with a compression ratio of 11:1 or higher depending on the application. Cylinder deactivation and continuously variable valve timing are all part of the recipe, and each engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with auto grade breaking. So far, no fuel economy or horsepower figures have been released, though GM says the new engines will best their predecessors in both areas.
Outside, the trucks feature a number of enhancements to reduce drag and wind noise, and GM claims both the Silverado and Sierra will offer buyers some of the quietest cabins in the class. Extended cab models now feature front-hinged rear doors to allow easier access to the back passenger area, and Crew Cab buyers can now select between a five-foot, eight-inch bed or a six-foot, six-inch bed. Buyers with a mind toward going off road will also rejoice in the return of the Z71 package, complete with Rancho shocks, front tow hooks and additional under-body protection.
The Jitterbugs somersaulted at the 1986 Chicago Auto Show for the Chevy Nova
Tue, Dec 30 2014Judging by the vintage videos that the Chicago Auto Show has been uploading, if you wanted to check out the latest vehicles and watch some dancers in the same place in the late '80s and early '90s, then the Windy City event was definitely the place to be. We've already seen the Footlockers pitching the Cavalier in '88 and a troupe of women singing about the Geo brand in '91. Apparently, the trend went back even further, though. Just take a look at this group called the Jitterbugs selling some badge-engineered products from Chevrolet at the 1986 show. Flanked by the Chevy Nova and Spectrum, these guys managed to do a few pretty impressive jumps and somersaults but mixed them with some rather uninspired spins, as well. Also, wait for 1:24 into the clip to see the least enthusiastic backup dancers that the world has ever known. The Jitterbugs are even further proof that Chevy's habit of mixing dancing and its vehicles goes back even further than the Volt.
