1963 Corvair Monza 900 Convertible

Up for sale is a great, smooth running example of Chevrolet’s 1963 Corvair Monza 900 Convertible.

Chevrolet pulled out all the technological stops to design its first rear engine mass produced car.

The Corvair has a 164 cubic inch flat six, which is air-cooled. It has been rebuilt and runs good. All of the wiring has been replaced along with the hoses, duck work and breaks, with all new shoes. The example in our feature car starts and runs as new. With dual one-barrel carburetion, this little six has plenty of pep to get you around town or up and down some winding county roads! Take it to your local car show and you will be a hit!

The odometer read 51,231 miles and I believe these to be actional miles.

The radio has been upgraded to listen to “SIM” Radio. This is great for cruiseing.

This Corvair is also equipped with the optional Power glide transaxle. With only 2 speeds, all the work of shifting is done for you simply by selecting a drive range from the lever on the dashboard. The transaxle engages firmly and confidently, so you can enjoy your ride with no worries!

The body is solid and strait and the paint has a nice Silver Blue shine. It was painted one time, long ago. It has 2 spots under the front hood corners “left & right” that will need some attention, as you can see in the photos. It’s clear the convertible top has been recently replaced, for it is in near perfect condition, as is the genuine leather interior upholstery. The bucket seats are comfortable and firm.

When you feel like putting the top down, a Manual convertible top makes it easy! There is a nice parade boot cover for use while the top is down.

Overall this is a clean, solid example of Chevrolet’s 1963 Corvair Monza 900 Convertible. This is a fun summertime cruiser and gets great fuel mileage!

As I said earlier this is car ready to hop in, turn the key, and go. It’s an extremely nice car that is guaranteed to make someone proud... I have a friend that will deliver the car for a fee. He does this a lot and is very fair with his cost to you. If this service is needed, I will will be happy to pass his name and number on to you.  Thanks for looking . . . Best regards, Howard W. Holmes Jr.

EcoCar2 is on the hunt for a better, cleaner Chevy Malibu [w/video]

Thu, Jun 12 2014

The students spent three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. Not far from the building where General Motors once invented the Chevy Volt, a dozen or so college students are standing on the blacktop alongside a test track, watching a professional driver push the limits of a plug-in hybrid car they've built that's far more radical. These students, from Colorado State University, have spent the past three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. At first glance, it still looks like a regular sedan. But under the hood, they've installed a hybrid powertrain that contains both hydrogen and electric power sources. Even by the standards of the Department of Energy competition they're participating in, it's an outlier. That's exactly what they had in mind. "We didn't want to come here and tell them how to build a better Volt," said Tom Bradley, faculty adviser for the Colorado State team. "They already know how to do that. We can tell them how to think about these possibilities in a whole new way." After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The Colorado State team was one of 15 that came to GM's Milford Proving Grounds last week for the final stretch of the EcoCar2 competition, which challenges regular college students who have no automotive experience to do nothing less than reinvent the American car. The teams have come from across North America, and include schools like Ohio State and Virginia Tech that have a long history of participating in similar competitions, and schools like the University of Washington and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University that are here for the first time. After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The teams have operated 24 hours a day for almost two weeks here at the Proving Grounds, running a gamut of tests that include a 310-point safety inspection, emissions and energy-consumption tests and road tests, in which professional GM drivers ensure they're road worthy. The winning team will be announced tonight in Washington D.C. Revolutionary cars, ordinary package While other green-car competitions encourage extreme designs, this one comes with a somewhat constraining twist: Yes, students must improve fuel economy and reduce emissions, but in the end, they still have to have a car that would appeal to mainstream customers. In practical terms, that means they must keep conveniences like air conditioning and trunk space.

This 93-car Iowa auction is like a Big 3 classic muscle museum

Tue, Aug 27 2019

Bill "Coyote" Johnson has been buying cars since high school and has amassed a collection totaling 113 vehicles, according to NBC 6 News. But time has changed his motivations and priorities, and he's decided to auction 93 of those cars, many of which are classic muscle from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Plymouth and Pontiac. The megasale will take place Sept. 14, 2019, in Red Oak, Iowa, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. A 1969 Plymouth Road Runner infected Coyote with a love for Detroit muscle when he was just a teenager, and his desire quickly turned into an obsession. He's spent the past 40 years finding, buying and working on a variety of makes and models. Unlike some collectors, Coyote didn't discriminate against certain brands and has rides from each of the Big 3 automakers. Included in the auction are Camaros, Satellites, Super Bees, Chargers, Challengers, Barracudas, Coronets, GTOs, Mustangs, Cutlasses and others. Possibly the most intriguing aspect of the auction is that all of these cars will be sold as-is with no reserve. Many of them will need work, depending on quality standards, but this seems like a golden opportunity to find a classic car without leaving a bank account in shambles.  The auctions are open for bidding online now, and the full auction will take place on September 14. Check out the full listings and bid at VanDerBrink Auctions.

2013 Chevy COPO Camaro announced with two new engines and manual option

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

Chevrolet is following up the 2012 COPO Camaro with another limited run of the drag-strip-ready production car for 2013. Ditching the superchargers, the 2013 COPO Camaro can only be equipped with one of three naturally aspirated V8 engines, and other new features include the option of a manual transmission, new front springs, some minor styling changes and a lower starting price of $86,000. All cars are designed to abide by the rules of the NHRA's Stock Eliminator or Super Stock classifications, depending on in which series buyers wish to enter their Chevrolet Camaro.
Returning for 2013 is the 427-cubic-inch V8 producing 425 horsepower, but the new engines include a 325-hp 350-CID V8 and a 375-hp 396-CID V8. Buyers can select to purchase all three engines, and each will be matched with the sequence number of that car; the track-only COPO cars will not have vehicle identification numbers and can't be registered for street use.
Chevrolet is also offering unique enthusiast-specific options such as a COPO Build Book and the opportunity for owners to help assemble their car's engine at the Chevrolet Performance Build Center in Wixom, MI.
