1963 Chevrolet Corvair 2 Door Coupe on 2040-cars
Hopkinsville, Kentucky, United States
1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 900. 2 door coupe. Paint is good but passenger fender has a dent that has been pulled and is ready for repair, has been painted red to keep from rusting. (picture attached) Hood and Bumper were not effected. Engine and carbs totally rebuilt. This car runs fantastic. All wheel cylinders have been rebuilt and 4 speed transmission has been serviced as well as differential. Car has new tires, gas tank and floor pans. Car also has original FM radio that works and this model has the antenna in the back of the vehicle which is not a very common feature. Car was originally dark blue and has light blue seats that have some tears. Clark's Corvair sells seat covers to convert the seats to black for about $400. Interior has new carpet. Car also needs a headliner but Clark's sells them for $100. Door panels are newer and are black. Glass is all intact and in good shape. Wipers work. Car is from Georgia and the only rust I can see is a bubble on the rear deck lid. The deck lid came off of a 64 spyder and was painted to match when the car was painted. Interior of car has been painted dove gray. I think it will look very good with black seats and a black or white headliner. Dash has no cracks, all lights and signals work. Mechanically the car only needs an emergency brake cable. Since it's a manual transmission I just park it in gear. Odometer works but speedometer started acted funny yesterday on my way home. I believe it's the cable but have not checked it. All the corvair forums say this is a very common occurrence in the 60-64 body model. I will unhook the speedometer as it is making a roaring noise at the moment but that should solve the noise. I have found a 63 speedometer on ebay for as little as $15 so lubing the cable and getting a speedo that works won't be much of an issue. I just bought the car. I like it because it can be gotten in and driven anywhere. The last 2 corvairs I have had were both projects and unable to be driven. This one could be super nice with a little work and none of the work is hard for even a novice to do (except the painting of the fender) I bought it with intentions of keeping it but I am really more fond of the 65-69 body style so I want to sell this one and focus on finding one of those. Reserve is reasonable. I am not in any way pressed to sell it and if I don't get what I need I will have the fender repaired and keep it. This is the perfect opportunity for someone to have an above average example that can be daily driven for not a ton of cash. Car is located in Hopkinsville, Kentucky which is an hour north of Nashville, Tn. I can assist with shipping but the cost will be the responsibility of the buyer. |

Junkyard Gem: 1980 Chevrolet LUV Mikado
Sat, Oct 9 2021During the 1970s and into the 1980s, each member of the Detroit Big Three imported Japanese small pickups and sold them with Ford (Mazda Proceed), Dodge/Plymouth (Mitsubishi Forte), or Chevrolet (Isuzu Faster) badges here. Ford developed the Ranger and killed the Courier for 1983 (though Americans could still buy the Mazda-badged version all the way through 1993), while The General axed the LUV after the S-10 debuted in the 1982 model year. Isuzu sold the same truck as the P'up through 1987, though, and we might as well follow up our recent P'up Junkyard Gem with its LUV predecessor. LUV stood for Light Utility Vehicle, and I've managed to spot a handful in the boneyards over the years. This one now resides in a yard in northeastern Colorado. The Mikado trim package included striped seat upholstery and a sporty steering wheel, plus these cool dash badges. As far as I can tell, no LUV Mikado advertising featured any Gilbert and Sullivan tunes. This one is fairly rusty for Front Range Colorado, and it has endured a bed swap from some other small truck. The engine is the 75-horse Isuzu 1.8-liter. Members of this engine family went into everything from Chevy Chevettes to Isuzu Troopers in the United States. Very unusually for a small pickup during the Malaise Era, this one has a luxurious automatic transmission. Acceleration must have been a leisurely affair in this truck. Air conditioning? Unheard of! Someone stuck every one of their lunchtime apple stickers on the driver's door. After 41 years of work, this truck is done. Come on strong in a LUV of your own!
GM slashes prices in China as sales falter
Thu, May 14 2015Buying a vehicle from General Motors' stable of brands might be a lot cheaper in the near future – at least for customers in China. The effort comes as GM hopes to keep sales there growing, and the decision alludes to yet another sign that the Asian country no longer has the booming auto market of past years. GM and its Chinese joint venture partner SAIC are slashing prices by as much as the equivalent to $8,700 on 40 models from Buick, Chevrolet, and Cadillac, according to The Detroit News. Across all of automaker's nameplates, the overall sales dipped in China in April by 0.4 percent to 258,484 vehicles. Among the drops, Buick was down 8.5 percent, and Chevy shrunk 5.6 percent. Caddy's numbers increased 4.6 percent for the month, though. Buick remains a popular brand in the minds of Chinese consumers, but according to The Detroit News domestic automakers there are starting to eat into the dominance of foreign companies in the market. The country remains important for GM, though. Late last year, it outlined a future strategy that included China as a major pillar, including a $14 billion investment to build five new factories and boost sales.
