1962 Chevrolet Corvair Greenbrier Van on 2040-cars
Campobello, South Carolina, United States
This Is a incredibly nice vintage Chevrolet Corvair Van that has been restored to better than new condition with the combination of the best improvements for power , reliability ,and handling .
I've owned this van for over 22 years and it has primarily been been used for comfortable transportation to car shows , club events, or to haul when needed. I located this very nice rust free van in Clinton S.C. in about 1992 while searching for a replacement for a 1963 van I owned and wanted to replace. The van was very original and solid and I believe because of some of the options, it was a fleet vehicle for a power co-op or phone co. It has a 2R125 VIN ,which is a 1962 Corvair Panel Van, with options including side roll up windows, rear door windows, 3 rows of seats, Powerglide transmission, gasoline heater, accessory 4 way flashers, and a two way radio. I started the restoration in the mid 90's ,completing the van in 2003. The van was completely chemically stripped, treated and epoxy primed. Any rust issues were cut out and new metal was welded in . I employed a professional body man for help with the final prep work. Also all of the doors were removed and primed inside and out and the hinges were rebuilt. I blocked it and re-primed 2 more times. It was painted in the fall of 2003 with 2 stage Dupont Chroma One and Chroma Clear In 1966 K code Artesian Turquoise and Light Neutral. The interior is Stock FC Desert Fawn color and was refinished after the exterior. I have Extra paint that will go with the van, The paint codes are also attached to the glove box. Tinted side glass was never a option for Corvair F.C,s , But this one has it. While all of the glass was out ,I had custom green tint glass cut and tempered for all 12 windows ,along with a new windshield. All of the window channels ,window seals , window felts ,and vent window rubber has been replaced. The rear floors were in great condition and were refinished in cargo bed liner. All of the exterior bright work was replaced or re-plated at the time I restored it. All of the Deluxe interior panels from my 1963 were professionally recovered along with new Clark 1962 Deluxe upholstery. The Engine I acquired from a fellow FC enthusiast in 1992 , and rebuilt to better than new specs for high torque and mid range power when coupled to the Powerglide. Its a 1966 XXY replacement truck engine rebuilt with .010 /.010 crank nitrided after machining by Charlotte Crankshaft ,welded crank gear ,fully balanced, .040 TRW forged pistons, Clarks cylinders, molly rings, std copper head gaskets,889 cam straight up,failsafe gear, top cover bolted to baffle. The heads are 110 truck heads with the exhaust rotators, close clearance Otto Guides ,New valves, 3 angle valve job and No Valve seals, with thermistor in the left head and careful attention paid to cooling air flow. The shrouds are powder coated with folded fin cooler. Always run on Synthetic engine, gear ,and ATF. No oil consumption between 3000 mi oil changes , pulls like crazy and has no problem holding 75 on the freeway with 3:55 axle. Big hills do not bother it. It runs perfect and needs nothing. I just serviced all of the fluids in May 2014. The instruments include a Tach, oil temp, and cylinder head temp gauges. There are no leaks ,smoke or abnormal noises. The van has within the past year, had 4 new KYB shocks, starter solenoid, fuel tank float, new exhaust crossover pipe, brake fluid flush, brakes checked and adjusted. The tires are fairly new BFG's 225/70-14 on14x7 wheels. With front and rear sway bars added. The van goes straight down the road and stops firm and has no pulling. I have driven it a lot on the interstate and I have no concerns regarding taking a road trip with it. The paint has heald up very well for the age ,mostly due to proper prep and meticulous maintenance and storage . But it is a 11 year old so it does show some slight signs of wear here and there . It has never been repainted anywhere or had accident damage. But I do have a fair amount of paint left for and needed repair. I have service records, photos, and a fat file of receipts from the restoration ,that will go with the van. If you would like to see the van it is located in Campobello SC 29322. My number is 828 342 0953. I also have it for sale locally and I do reserve the right to end the auction early. I am a long time Corsa member and a certified repair specialist. Feel free to call and ask questions. |

2014 Chevrolet Silverado tows in new configurator, microsite
Mon, 21 Jan 2013Judging by your continued enthusiastic response to configurator notices, dear reader, you enjoy speccing out new cars as much as we do. Better still, there tends to be even more ways to personalize, configure and bloat theoretical MSRPs on full-size trucks as there are with more ordinary passenger cars. In addition to trim level, engine and transmission choices, truck buyers usually have to specify items like cab configuration, bed length, number of driven axles, tow packages, gear ratios and all sorts of bits and bobs.
That's why we're pleased to see the DIY specification utility for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado come alive so soon after this week's Detroit Auto Show debut. While the configurator lacks pricing (General Motors hasn't announced numbers yet) and full options, you can still spec out your half-ton rig, and even print it out or email it to your friends. Beyond the configurator, the new model-specific site is pretty cool, too, with various videos and closer looks at the truck's new features.
The new Chevrolet pickup range won't be on dealer lots until sometime this summer, so whether you're a building contractor, an avid sportsman or just a guy or gal that loves full-size trucks, you might want to check out the link below to keep your appetite whetted. If you're more of a Sierra fan, well, it looks like you're going to have to wait a while - GMC hasn't updated its site yet.
What we know, and think we know, about the 2016 Chevy Volt
Wed, Aug 13 2014With the next-gen Chevy Volt due to make an appearance at the Detroit Auto Show early next year, bits and pieces about the new car are making their way into the press. Perhaps most importantly, the new Volt is going to have better "fuel economy and efficiency," according to GM executive vice president Mark Reuss. The current Volt gets 98 MPGe and 37 miles per gallon on premium fuel. It also has a 38-mile electric-only range. We don't know how GM will improve the efficiency or to what degree, but the logical options include making the car lighter, giving it better aerodynamics and/or improving the powertrain. To that end, one of the big things we don't know for sure includes information on the new gas-powered engine. Forbes says it will be a downsized 1.0-liter, three-cylinder mill instead of the 1.4-liter, four-cylinder used in the current model, which could certainly help the car be more efficient. The new Volt is also going to have more technology, which shouldn't surprise anyone. GM is now openly talking about how it will change the way it markets the Volt, shifting away from the mass-market mentality to focus on the regions where the car is already popular. "There's a Northeast and West Coast market for Volt, and there's nothing wrong with that," Chevy chief marketing officer Tim Mahoney told Forbes. There are rumors that the new Volt will have seating for five by adding a seat in the back. This is something a lot of current Volt owners would love, but we've heard nothing official hinting that this would be the case. We expect the battery to be the new 17.1-kWh version, or maybe even have a capacity increase, so GM would have to seriously repackage the pack to eliminate the ridge that runs from between the front seats and then back to the rear two seats. If you've heard anything official, do let us know.
Recharge Wrap-up: Ford HQ gets giant solar array, Chevy City Express gets 24 MPG city
Sat, Aug 16 2014Ford will be building Michigan's largest solar array at its Dearborn headquarters. With funding from DTE Energy, the solar carport will provide covered parking, as well 30 charging stations for electric vehicles. The array is expected to generate 1.13 million kWh per year for Ford's operations, and offset 794 metric tons of carbon emissions. Read more in the press release below. Chevrolet announced the fuel economy for the 2015 City Express, at 25 mpg combined. The cargo van is rated at 24 mpg in the city, and 26 mpg on the highway. Chevy credits the van's inline four-cylinder engine and continuously variable transmission for its impressive city mileage. For its customers - which are mainly businesses - "The fuel economy of the City Express will help stretch their dollar at the pump and give them the flexibility to invest the savings back into their business," says Chevrolet's Ed Peper. The City Express starts at $22,950. Read more in the press release below. Engineers at the University of Wisconsin have developed an efficient engine that runs on a diesel-gas blend. The engine, which uses a computer to control the blend proportions, is about 15 percent more efficient than the any diesel engine according to mechanical engineering professor Rolf Reitz. The team has put the experimental reactivity controlled compression ignition (RCCI) engine in a demonstration car - a 2009 Saturn. "This vehicle can do 50 miles per gallon," says Reitz, who believes the system could be improved further. Read more at Wisconsin Public Radio. The Southeast Alternative Fuel Conference and Expo will take place in October in Raleigh, North Carolina. Held at the NC Clean Energy Technology Center from October 22-24, the event will feature a variety of exhibitors, speakers and, most importantly, alternatively powered vehicles. "The three day conference will be a one-stop shop for fleet and transportation related decision makers to learn about return on investment, efficiency and alternative transportation fuels such as biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, propane and natural gas," says Anne Tazewell of the NC Clean Energy Technology Center. If you can't make it to Raleigh for the Expo, you can still enter to win a free two-year lease of a Nissan Leaf at the Center's website. Learn more about the event in the press release, below.
