Frame up restoration in 1991-1993, all new GM cab corners, sill plates, upper/lower rocker panels, front fenders, and bed sides. Retouched up and added new doors in 2011 by a professional body/restoration shop due to rust in the bottom of the doors that was not a guarantee that it would not reappear.  The small block was replaced by a 2005 6.0L motor w/ after market fuel rails, larger injectors, larger throttle body, and a custom intake.  Custom headers were made and coated, and custom 3" exhaust w/ header dumps and crossover piping was fitted all the way to the rear of the truck. Transmission is a newly built 700R4 w/ shift kit and top of the line convertor. The rearend is a 410 posi. also new. A custom 15 gallon fuel cell was added w/ a filter and high pressure pump mounted nicely to the frame and custom bent 1/2" aluminum line was ran all the way to the front where it meets a high pressure hose to the fuel rails. The suspension is all new w/ brand new GM trailing arms in the rear and upper and lower tubular A-arms in the front w/ belltech springs, spindles, and shocks to lower it.  The entire body/suspension system has polythene bushings throughout.  Frontend has been rebuilt w/ all Moog parts and aligned professionally. New front rotors and 2-piston calipers on the front and rebuilt drum brakes in the rear, w/ a new (chrome) booster/master cylinder setup.  Brand new inner and outer grille, custom cowl insert, custom headlights, clear turn signals and marker lights w/ (proper bulbs), All trim has been reconditioned and tailgate is still original(My uncle's that was found in his garage in perfect condition), all applied w/ doulble sided tape so all holes are filled behind it and body is perfect.(in case it was not wanted and something else could be added over the paint color change, different trim?). The interior of the cab has been completely repainted w/ the truck and new pad and factory carpet was reinstalled, recovered bench seat, new GM dash pad, new air vents, new dash w/ original guages, new headliner, new remote controlled CD player w/ amp and speakers behind the seat only. Wheels are 20" in back/18" in front "Coys" w/ Toyo Z rated tires(75%).  Paint is PPG base/clearcoat Medium Blue and 1992 Cadillac Pearl White.  All of the blue was repainted in 2011 due to a few scratches and dings(wanted paint to be a perfect match, I took no chances), and a "Gaylord's" tonneau cover was added. The air conditioning needs lines made and charged, the 2005 compressor is on engine and all of the factory acc. are on truck including a new dryer and condesor behind the grille and the custom brand new raditor and electric fans that are thermostatically controlled by the computer.

GM says hybrid Corvette no laughing matter [w/poll]

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

When Mark Reuss was in LA recently, he sat down to have a few words with the scribes at the Los Angeles Times. When the issue of a hybrid Corvette came up, Reuss answered with "Don't laugh." The General Motors president is a complete fan of the possibility, calling it "attractive" and "really fun," believing it would improve GM expertise and that "people would love it."
Naturally, the president being supportive of an idea doesn't give indication that a hybrid Corvette is on the way. However, with supercars like the Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari giving hybrid tech a solid, if remote, place in the performance car world, the inexorable trickle-down of technology means we shouldn't be surprised if and when it does happen.
And now that we have that non-negative half-answer to a speculative question, it would be irresponsible for us not to commence rumormilling for the C8 Corvette. Taking Reuss at his word, the C8 will obviously be a hybrid with all-wheel-drive - the left side wheels driven with electric motors, the right side with the mid-mounted, four-cylinder diesel engine. With coefficient of drag of just .16, figure on a 0-to-60 mile-per-hour time of under 2 seconds and an all-electric range of something like 30 miles at top speed. Don't forget, folks, you read it here first.

Race Recap: 2013 Indianapolis 500 better than Bollywood; all the emotion, none of the music [spoilers]

Mon, 27 May 2013

If the 2013 Indy 500 were a movie it would be the one expected to win all the little statues come awards season, and if it were an athlete it would have made spectators watch in awe as it broke record after record. And this kind of talk comes after last year's race was considered one of the best ever - the last lap hijinks in 2012 and Takuma Sato's crash leading to a podium ceremony straight out of a Golden Globes tearjerker.
But this year's race delivered more than anyone expected, from the 250,000 fans to the commentators to the IndyCar series itself and, finally, to the guy who hopped through a two-mile window on Lap 197 to take the lead and keep it until the end.

Why the Corvette's Performance Data Recorder can be illegal in some states

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

The Performance Data Recorder with Valet Mode available on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray seems like a fantastic tool for many owners. Whether they are taking 720p video while lapping the track in their new 'Vette, or just want to protect their purchase from inconsiderate joyriders, the system offers a lot of functionality in one package. However, one of the PDR's features might get buyers in trouble with the law, and it has nothing to do with recording some illicit high-speed driving on a favorite back road. The problem hinges on the various state laws concerning a person's right to privacy.
According to a letter posted by Jalopnik, Chevy dealers are asking 2015 Corvette owners not to use the Valet Mode portion of the PDR because it records audio in the cabin, in addition to performance specs. That's a problem because privacy laws vary from state to state with some requiring just one side's consent to tape sound and others requiring all parties to agree. According Jalopnik, 15 states mandate everyone's permission beforehand, but it's not clear whether these numbers are up to date. (Actually, the report varies, saying 13 states in some places and 15 in a list.)
According to the letter, Chevy is already working on a software update for the near future to rectify the issue. It's possible that simply adding a warning to drivers and the ability to turn off the audio recording function in Valet Mode might solve the problem. Obviously, this doesn't preclude Corvette drivers from using the performance aspect of the PDR, and owners are free tape lap after lap at the track.
