I recently obtained this vehicle from the guy who brought life to it.    He got the vehicle about 5 years ago - an SS roller with all original rust free and straight sheet metal, original interior, etc.    A low mileage 454 engine(4 bolt main) and TH400 3 Speed Automatic transmission were taken from an 80s Chevy pickup.     As you can see from the photos he spared little expense.   He tried to keep as much of the original vehicle as possible - only redoing those items that needed attention.    The exterior paint was re-done - a beautiful black - the paint is like glass - easily a $5K + paint job.   The interior is extremely nice - the car retains its original SS door panels and rear seat.   Restoration included a custom dash pad, new matching upholstery on the front seats(factory swivel buckets), new carpet and headliner.   Upgrades to the 454 include the following:  General Motors Dual Plane high rise manifold, Edlebrock 800 CFM carb, HEI distributor, Hooker Headers, 2.5 dual Flowmaster Exhaust, large aluminum radiator, Transgo Shift kit.  The car has a 3.55 positraction rear end.   New parts include water pump, belts, hoses, alternator, starter, tires, KYB rear shocks, U joints, rebuilt front disc brakes.  It also has new rubber seals at both doors and trunk.     Newer tires sitting on vintage Centerline staggered wheels.   You wont find any rust on this Fremont CA built Chevelle.    The car has mostly been sitting in a garage, driven rarely since completion - the owner found a new project and this one was taking up the garage space so had to go.    With that being said it will probably need some tweaks here and there but the car is extremely solid, has plenty of power and can be driven and enjoyed as is.    The car has Power brakes, power steering and power windows - all work as they should.   Gauges work in a blend of factory gauges and after market(Example - factory tach does not work but the large lower tach does work).  I

Chevrolet planning low-cost Corvette under Stingray?

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

If you're burnt out on musings about the Chevrolet Corvette, you'll want to go ahead and skip this post. Motor Trend reports General Motors is hard at work on a low-cost version of the seventh-generation sports car for 2015. Rumored to be called the Corvette Coupe, the car will forgo the Stingray and skip the 450-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine in favor of a 5.3-liter V8 with under 400 ponies. If you're keeping track, that's a shade of the same engine found behind the headlights of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
The report also suggests the Coupe will receive a number of aesthetic tweaks to separate it from the Stingray, including different front and rear fascias as well as new front fenders and a rear diffuser. Motor Trend says the point of all this is to cut the car's price tag, which means we may see a Corvette on showroom floors for less than $50,000 if this car comes to fruition.

EcoCar3 will convert Camaro to bitchin' eco rides

Sat, Apr 26 2014

In the 47-year-history of the Chevrolet Camaro, there have been countless college-age kids spending a ton of time getting under the hood and souping 'em up. Now, General Motors is adding a twist to the concept by donating 16 Camaros for the EcoCar challenge that puts university teams together to wring out better fuel-efficiency out of various vehicles. No word on whether there will be donuts on anyone's lawn, as suggested by 80's punks the Dead Milkmen, but the idea's never a bad one. EcoCar3 will feature 16 teams such as Arizona State, Penn State, Ontario's University of Waterloo and, of course, Detroit's Wayne State University. They'll spend the next four years "[reducing] environmental impact, while maintaining the muscle and performance expected from this iconic American car," as the EcoCar organizers say. The goal is to maintain body design and safety standards while boosting efficiency and lowering emissions, but the actual process is far more complicated than that description suggests. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Bosch are among the sponsors of the contest, which is also put on by the US Department of Energy and managed by Argonne National Laboratory. Penn State won Year Two of the three-year EcoCar 2 competition with its E85 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle converted out of a Chevy Malibu. The grand-prize winner of EcoCar2 will be announced in June. Check out the EcoCar3 website and see the announcement video below for more details. This content is hosted by a third party. Use this PowerPoint when convincing your spouse to let you buy a Corvette

When you are not the one in charge of the purse strings, creativity is a must when trying to get the string-holder to bankroll that next shiny object you just can't live without.
When I was a kid, I decided that life wasn't worth living if it weren't in pursuit of owning a GMC Typhoon. My 12-year-old self crafted a fiscal strategy that, when combined with my offer of a 49-percent share of ownership in the car in return for my parents' contribution of 80-percent of the purchase price, would see me behind the wheel of a Typhoon by the time I hit college. They walked away from the negotiating table and, the economic climate of the 8th grade being what it was at the time, another partner wasn't found before the Typhoon was discontinued.
Roy El-Rayes, however, has succeeded where 12-year-old me failed, and he did it by using the sort of professionalism that only a PowerPoint presentation can provide, along with some humor and bold-faced flattery.
