Thanks for looking at our listing for a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport. This SS has an interesting story, it was in storage most of the last 23 years being driven only 1,500 miles during that time. Currently the odometer shows only 37,158 miles (milage may increase slightly due to test drives), and the milage is stated as actual on the title. The SS has a few options you don't see every day, it features a functioning Cowl Induction Hood, has the LS package (front and rear sway bars), In Dash Tach and Clock, and Tilt Steering Wheel. This Super Sport still has the correct original 14" Steel Rallye Wheels with White Lettered tires. This is a RARE color combination Chevelle Super Sport with white exterior and Saddle interior.

The engine in the SS is a "non-numbers" matching engine. The numbers on the block are CE167289, which make it a Chevrolet "over the counter" replacement block. The transmission is a automatic Turbo 400, and the rear end is a 12 bolt. The mechanics of the car are good and other than needing new tires (they are weather checked from storage) could be driven anywhere. Here is what was done to the SS since being taken out of storage. The heater core was replaces along with the hoses, new exhaust gaskets, new points, plugs, and wires, and the 4 Barrel Carburetor was completely rebuilt.

The Chevelle SS 396 has had one repaint (in laquer) and is in presentable condition, but it going to need an exterior restoration. Both rear quarters have some rust (see pics) above the wheel wells (normal to all Chevelle's) and will need patch panels. Also, there is a small spot of rust on the right front fender (see pics) where it meets the door. Underneath the doors are very good (see pic). The laquer paint is weather checking which is also normal to laquer paint. Other than that the body is in good condition for a 44 year old car. The underneath of the SS is in suprisingly good condition showing no rust in the floor pans or trunk area and still has the original GM undercoating from the fractory.

This Super Sport has the Bucket Seat option with center console and horse shoe automatic shifter, and again the in dash tach and clock (not working). The headliner has been replaced and the rest of the interior is very presentable and depending on your standards could be used in present form.

Here is a opportunity to purchase a RARE color and optioned Chevelle Super Sport with low milage that is in it's original unmolsted condition. Again, this SS will need at least a exterior restoration. Mechanically the car is good and the interior is good. This is NOT a Show Car, but could certainly be driven in present form and the price reflects the work the car needs.

GM opens military discount to 21M veterans and their spouses

Thu, Apr 7 2016

May marks the start of National Military Appreciation Month, and General Motors is getting into the spirit by expanding its military discount program to, well, just about everyone. That includes a total of 21 million military veterans and their spouses, along with the current slate of active duty, reserve, and National Guard members. The discount can slash thousands of dollars off the price of a new Buick, Chevrolet, or GMC vehicles, with Automotive News listing an $1,100 discount on the top gas-powered version of the Malibu, the Premiere. Those that want a bit more spice can get $1,700 off the price of a last-generation 2015 Camaro SS, while truck buyers will enjoy $3,000 off the Chevy Silverado All Star. That's just a start, though, since the military discount can be paired with other GM incentives. The discount doesn't apply to everything, though. Some are understandable – none of Cadillac's vehicles are included in the deal, nor is the Corvette Z06. You'll also be unable to apply the discount to a range of base-level trims, like the Chevy Cruze or Equinox L, the base Colorado, or the entry level GMC Acadia, Canyon, and Terrain. A full list is available at GM's dedicated military discount website. GM's expanded discount plan runs from today through May 31. Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.

Chevy Volt replacement battery cost varies wildly, up to $34,000

Fri, Jan 10 2014

There's a growing hubbub in the plug-in vehicle community over what looks like some ridiculously cheap replacement batteries for the Chevrolet Volt going up for sale. GM Parts Online, for example, is selling a replacement Volt battery with an MSRP of $2,994.64 but, with an online discount, the price comes down to $2,305.88. For the 16-kWh pack in the 2012 Volt, that comes to a very low $144.11 per kilowatt hour (kWH). But is it a real deal? How can it be, when a Chevy dealer may quote you a price of up to $34,000 to replace the pack? For a 16-kWh Volt pack, $2,305.88 comes to a very low $144.11 per kWh. But is it a real deal? Battery packs in alternative propulsion vehicles are usually priced by the kWh and, historically, they've been thought to be in the range of $500-per-kWh for OEM offerings. Since automakers are understandably secretive about their costs, we still don't know what the real number is today, but we do know it varies by automaker. Tesla, for example, has said it pays less than $200-per-kWH at the cell level but, of course, a constructed pack would be more. Whatever is going on, li-ion battery prices are trending downward. So, $144.11 certainly sounds great, but what's the story here? Kevin Kelly, manager of electrification technology communications for General Motors, reminded AutoblogGreen that GM Parts Online is not the official GM parts website and that, "the costs indicated on the site are not what we would charge our dealers or owners for a replacement battery. There would be no cost to the Volt owner if their battery needs replacement or repair while the battery is under the eight year/100,000 mile limited warranty coverage provided by Chevrolet." A single price tag also can't be accurate for everyone, Kelly said. "If the customer needs to have their battery repaired beyond the warranty, the cost to them would vary depending on what needs to be replaced or repaired (i.e. number of modules, which specific internal components need replacement, etc.)." he said. "So, it's hard for us to tell you exactly what the cost would be to the customer because it varies depending on what might need to be repaired/replaced. As a result, the core charge would vary." But, is the $2,300 price even accurate for anyone? Thanks to a reader comment, we see that this similar item on New GM Parts makes it look like the lithium-ion modules that Kelly mentioned – where a lot of the expensive bits are – are not included.
