1968 Ss396 Rare Pwr Window, Air, Tilt, Numbers Matching Motor Etc...cali Car on 2040-cars
Canoga Park, California, United States
This is a rare SS396/325 Chevelle, seems to be a special order car due to the paint code having a - - paint/trim code. It is white but under trunk seems to have a little pearl in it? Maybe a Buick color? So you could paint it any 1968 color you want and not change the original value. Special order cars in late 1967 could have any color from the GM line so who knows. And the rare options of power windows, tilt and air make this SS unique. Power disc brakes are new and stop on a dime. Rims are original to the car and date stamped. Center caps are original and perfect, trim rings will need replacing but function as a driver. Car is original to California as to why it is so clean and solid.
Whats done already: All suspension, brakes, steering, rear-end, BB springs all replaced with HD versions, poly-graphite bushings, front/rear sway bars. This car drives and handles better than factory. Was a daily driver for me for over a year. AC blows ice cold and everything works as it should. The undercarriage is totally solid with absolutely no rust whatsoever. Floors and trunk are perfect. Frame is perfect. Interior has new upholstery, carpet, dash pad, door panels. Was originally bench seat car. Has new vinyl top, In the process of converting to bucket console car. Have completely restored original tilt column and SS gauges (rolling tach) that go with the car. These are very hard and expensive parts (1500.00 min) to get especially in this perfect NOS condition. The original numbers matching 396 is out of the car on a stand. Prior owner says was rebuilt and stored. Still has assembly lube on it. Car came from an estate and the motor looks as if it was in storage for a while. But it is the original, see pics. I would still break it down and ck it out. The only missing original running gear item is the TH400. But the TH350 in the car is newly built to HD spec with shift kit etc... Rearend is the original correct 12 bolt. The car currently has a 1967 327/275 and a rebuilt TH350 which runs flawlessly in all respects. New 4 core BB radiator. As stated above this car was driven daily from woodland hills to glendale for over a year and never had an issue. No leaks, no overheating, no smoke just simply runs sweet. Always fires right up no matter how long it has been sitting. I will be happy to pull the small block and TH350 and adjust the selling price as agreed upon. What it needs: Obviously paint and some very minimal typical GM rust repair (2 small areas one in pass lower fender and pass rear 1/4) as seen in photos. Console and headliner for interior. Weather strip kit through out. New front glass (crack), A couple trim pieces. Re-chrome front bumper. And that's about all folks. Email me if any questions and please come inspect and drive the car. You will not be disappointed for the value here. This is a 35k+ car when completed. Unfortunately no build sheet, PoP was found or paperwork came with the car when I got it. I have too many cars/projects to complete this one at this point. This is a perfect turn key driver to restore a little at a time while using it. Need to finish my 68 Elco so this one needs to move on. |

Chevy Spark EV could be coming to Midwest later this year
Tue, Jun 10 2014Ohio is not known as a hotbed of EV sales – if anything, the state is a bit anti-EV, thanks to a legislative fight against Tesla's direct sales model – but it might be on Chevrolet's short list to expand the market for the Spark EV in the near future. The latest official GM press release on the battery-powered Spark still says the car is "available exclusively in California and Oregon," but Hybrid Cars found four Ohio dealerships that list a Spark EV on their websites, with hints the the car will be coming to the Midwest state by the end of the summer. See, for example, here, here, here and here. But that's probably not going to happen, according to Randy Fox, GM communication's manager for passenger cars. Fox told AutoblogGreen that, "At this point in time, we don't have any official plans to expand the Spark EV beyond California and Oregon." The reason is that California and Oregon have the infrastructure to support EVs, Fox said, and GM wants to be able to support its EV customers. "We are continuing to look at other options," he said. "The selling point for electric cars today is not advertising, it's eyeballs, it's peer exposure" – John O'Dell John O'Dell, a senior editor at Edmunds.com, told AutoblogGreen that, "It makes sense for [GM] to expand sales and it makes sense to do it in a quiet manner, to get these vehicles on the road. The selling point for electric cars today is not advertising, it's eyeballs, it's peer exposure. If someone in my neighborhood has one and he likes it, then maybe I can trust him. So it's important to get these vehicles on the road." Chevy sold 182 Spark EVs last month, a significant increase over the 98 sold in April. That's still small potatoes compared to the 3,000+ Nissan Leaf EVs sold last month, but making the electric Spark available in Ohio, say, or GM's home state of Michigan could boost those numbers. AutoblogGreen called a few dealerships in Michigan to see what they had heard. One salesman said he didn't think GM had started production yet but the inventory manager for another dealership said the Spark EV is scheduled to arrive in the Midwest in "roughly the fourth quarter." What would GM's incentive be to offer the car in markets outside of California where it can gain ZEV credits with each sale?
Recharge Wrap-up: Indianapolis to switch 425 fleet vehicles to EVs, Chevy Corvette provides bat habitats
Tue, Nov 4 2014Indianapolis will deploy 425 battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles as part of its municipal fleet by 2016. The fleet will include such cars as the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt and Ford Fusion Energi. The city will also reduce its overall fleet by 100 vehicles. In all, the revised group - called the "Freedom Fleet" - will save $8.7 million and 2.2 million gallons of gasoline over 10 years. Read more at Hybrid Cars. EVs with longer range would make vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid energy management systems more practical for the US. The idea of using EVs as energy storage for emergencies or times of high grid demand is currently being tested in Japan with Nissan's Leaf-to-Home system. The US is also interested in such capabilities, but the higher average energy use of American households would make larger batteries in EVs ideal for grid storage applications. The factory, when constructed, will have a capacity of producing batteries for 100,000 cars per year according to the Korean company. The plant will supply batteries for Chinese automakers such as SAIC and Qoros. Construction is expected to be finished by the end of 2015 and LG Chem expects revenue of more than $933 million by 2020. Read more in the press release below. General Motors is using adhesive used in the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to create habitat for threatened bat species. Artificial bat caves could help alleviate white-nose fungus that leads to diminished bat populations. Leftover adhesive is used to create stalactites in the artificial caves, allowing them more structure to hang from. GM has also provided Volt battery covers to create nesting habitats for bats, which eat harmful insects and help pollinate plants. See the videos and read more in the press release below. GM patent reveals new two-stage turbocharger
Fri, Jun 24 2016Modern turbochargers may be some of the best ever made, but performance is something that engineers are always trying to improve. According to GM Inside News, General Motors (GM) is hoping to alleviate some of the negative aspects of a two-stage turbocharger setup with a newly-patented design. The patent, that was filed on May 19, 2016, reveals a clever bypass system that allows the engine, a four-cylinder unit, to optimize both the low-pressure and high-pressure inlets for its respective functions. According to the filing, a conventional two-stage turbocharger setup is engineered to allow both turbines to operate simultaneously at low and mid engine speeds. At high engine speeds, only the low-pressure turbine works. The setup can't isolate either the low or high pressure side, which can impair low-end performance. GM's new two-stage turbocharger setup looks to eliminate this by linking the high-pressure turbo to the exhaust manifold through the high-pressure inlet duct. The low-pressure turbo is attached to the high-pressure turbo by a low-pressure inlet duct, which is linked to a connecting channel. A single actuator that is housed in the exhaust manifold creates a bypass that can opens the high-pressure inlet or close the connecting channel. Depending on what the engine load and speed is, the ECU guides the actuator—a single rotating spindle with discs corresponding to flanges on the high and low pressure sides—to isolate one of the two turbos. Isolating the turbos allow the respective inlets to be engineered for the best possible fluid dynamic performance. The setup should increase performance and decrease lag. There's no word on what car this setup will make an appearance on, but it will most likely be used in premium vehicles before trickling down to the rest of GM's vehicles.
