I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS BEAUTIFUL 1968 TRUE 138 SS 396 CHEVELLE THAT I PURCHASED IN 1976. IT WAS REPAINTED TO THE FACTORY BUTTERNUT YELLOW IN 1998. THE SEATS AND FRONT DOOR PANELS HAVE ALSO BEEN REDONE TO THE FACTORY OYSTER COLOR AND FABRIC. THE TURBO 400 TRANSMISSION AND 12 BOLT 3.73 REAR END ARE ORIGINAL. THE ENGINE IS A DATE CORRECT 396 THAT WAS REDONE IN 2000. IT HAS BEEN BORED .030 AND A LUNATI CAM, EDELBROCK INTAKE, HOLLEY 650 AND A SPECTRE AIR FILTER WERE ADDED. IT HAS A MSD 6 BOX AND ELECTRONIC HEI IGNITION AND CAST EXHAUST MANIFOLDS THAT HAVE BEEN CERAMIC COATED WITH AN ALUMINIZED FLOWMASTER EXHAUST SYSTEM. I CHANGE THE FACTORY DISC BRAKES TO A SINGLE PISTON CALIPER STYLE AND I WILL INCLUDE THE ORIGINAL FACTORY 4 PISTON CALIPERS WITH SPINDLES WITH THE SALE. THE CAR ORIGINALLY HAD A BENCH SEAT BUT I HAVE CONVERTED TO BUCKET SEATS AND CONSOLE FROM A DONOR 1968 CHEVELLE. I WILL INCLUDE THE FACTORY SEAT AND THE STEERING COLUMN SHIFTER LEVER AND LINKAGE. THE ORIGINAL STEERING WHEEL WAS CHANGED TO THE ONE SHOWN AND WILL ALSO BE INCLUDED. THE STEERING COLUMN WAS CHANGED TO A FLAMING RIVER LAST YEAR DUE TO A VERY WORN OUT FACTORY TILT COLUMN. THE WHEELS AND TIRES ARE 17" AND HAVE DECENT TREAD REMAINING. THE CAR IS VERY RELIABLE AND DRIVES ABSOLUTELY GREAT WITH NO RATTLES OR WIND LEAKS. ALL THE WEATHERSTRIP AND BODY GASKETS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. IT HAS NO MAJOR LEAKS AND DOES NO USE NOR BURN OIL OR FLUIDS. IT HAS A FACTORY A/C THAT REQUIRES FREON ONCE A YEAR WHEN THE WEATHER REQUIRES THE USE OF THE A/C. THE ONLY DRAWBACK IS IT WILL NEED THE REAR PANEL BELOW THE REAR WINDOW REPAIRED AND THE ROOF SHOWS SIGNS OF SURFACE RUST UNDER THE VINYL TOP. THIS IS A COMMON AREA OF REPAIR FOR THESE CARS. IT ALSO HAS A CRACKED DASH PAD AND THE CONTROLS FOR THE A/C AND HEATER NEED TO BE EITHER ADJUSTED OR SOMETHING TO HAVE THE AIR CONTROL THRU THE DUCTING FOR PROPER SELECTION WHERE TO EXIT. RIGHT NOW IT ONLY BLOWS OUT THE BOTTOM IN THE CENTER AND THE DEFROSTER. IT DOES HAVE A COUPLE OF SMALL PAINT SCRATCHES BUT NO DENTS. THE BUMPERS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION BUT COULD USE RECHROMING. THE DASH HAS A COUPLE OF ILLUMINATION LIGHT BULBS THAT ARE IN NEED OF CHANGING. OVERALL THE CAR IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN THE SOUTHERN NM AREA WHERE THERE IS VERY LOW HUMIDITY AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN KEPT GARAGED AND COVERED. I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH OF HOW GREAT THIS CAR DRIVES, HANDLES AND HOW RELIABLE IT IS. I WOULD NOT HESITATE DRIVING IT ANYWHERE.

Opel Ampera-e brings a Bolt of EV driving to Europe

Fri, Feb 12 2016

The Chevrolet Bolt will take a trip across the Atlantic in 2017 to become Europe's Opel Ampera-e. General Motors won't release any specs for the foreign version yet, but these photos suggest very minor styling tweaks to the upper level of the grille and to the hatchback to add the appropriate brand emblems. We would expect the same electric motor with 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque and 60-kWh battery as the US model, too. However, the 200-mile range number might change, but only because of the differences in European testing. GM CEO Mary Barra announced the Ampera-e at the CAR Symposium in Bochum, Germany. "GM and Opel have always been convinced that electric cars will play a defining role in future mobility. The game-changing technology of the Ampera-e is a significant step toward realizing that vision," she said. The Ampera-e is also proof that General Motors loves confusing naming for its green models. If the Volt and Bolt aren't perplexing enough, the Ampera-e is just one letter off from the Ampera – the previous-gen Volt in Europe. GM no longer sells the range-extended vehicle there, so at least both names can't be in showrooms simultaneously. However, the similar monikers still might confuse some customers who think the new EV hatchback is closely related to the old sedan. Opel Group will launch a revolutionary new battery electric car next year, as the company continues the biggest, most far-reaching model offensive in its history with 29 new models between 2016 and 2020. The new five-door, five seat will be called "Ampera-e". It will not only have a longer range on a full charge than most electric cars, it will also be affordably priced. Building on the electrification expertise established with the original Ampera, which set the benchmark for modern electric cars in 2011, the new Ampera-e combines innovative electric-mobility with state-of-the-art connectivity and exciting driving dynamics. Announcing the Ampera-e today at the CAR Symposium in Bochum, Germany, GM Chairman & CEO Mary Barra said: "GM and Opel have always been convinced that electric cars will play a defining role in future mobility.

Junkyard Gem: 1986 Chevrolet Sprint Plus

Fri, Jun 16 2023

General Motors sold second- and third-generation Suzuki Cultuses with Geo or Chevrolet Metro badging in the United States from 1989 through 2001 model years, and we've all seen plenty of those cars on the street over the years. The first-generation Cultus was sold here as well, with Chevrolet Sprint badges, and I've found a rare example of the Sprint five-door hatchback in a Northern California car graveyard. The Chevy Sprint first appeared on the West Coast as a 1985 model, then became available everywhere in the United States for the 1986 through 1988 model years (in Canada, it was sold as the Pontiac Firefly). It was available here as a hatchback with three or five doors; for 1986 only, the five-door was badged as the Sprint Plus. Soon enough, The General would be selling many more Asian-built cars with Detroit badges here. Isuzu I-Marks were sold as Chevrolet/Geo Spectrums starting in the 1986 model year, while Daewoo provided the Pontiac LeMans two years later. Under the hood, a 1.0-liter three-cylinder rated at 48 horsepower. The five-door Sprint cost $5,580 in 1986, which was $200 more than the three-door (those prices would be $15,445 and $14,891 in 2023 dollars). I've documented seven discarded Sprints prior to this one (including an extremely rare Turbo Sprint), and all of them were three-doors; we can assume that price was the most important factor for Sprint buyers. Gasoline prices were crashing hard during the middle 1980s, but memories of gas lines and odd-even-day fuel rationing from 1979 remained strong. What cars competed with the '86 Sprint on sticker price? Well, there was no way to undercut the hilariously affordable (and terrible) Yugo GV, which cost $3,990. The much bigger (but still pretty bad) Hyundai Excel listed at $4,995, while Toyota would sell you a sturdy (but zero-fun) Tercel starting at $5,448. Even the wretched Chevy Chevette — yes, it was still available in 1986 — cost $5,645. The original buyer of this car was willing to shell out an extra $395 to get an automatic instead of the base five-speed manual. That's about $1,093 in today's money. This car must have been slow. By the end, the doors were held shut with duct tape, but it still stayed alive until age 37. 53 miles per gallon on the highway! It does everything. The camels of the highway.
