Of course the idea of a manufacturer putting big engines in their smaller sized cars certainly did not begin with a GTO or any post war cars. The whole idea certainly started well before World War II when Buick was dominating the drag racing field by putting their big Road Master engine in the small Buick Special and calling the model the Century. So it is in 1966 when Chevrolet decided to get into the muscle car race with all of their energy and came up with the Chevelle 396 cubic inch. This particular car that you see here is a factory SS 396, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes. The car is finished in original Chevrolet Atlantic Blue as a repaint but the color is not original to the car. This Chevelle is a very popular muscle car because it is mid-sized and has plenty of room inside and is a great cruiser with the automatic transmission and lets face it the design lines on this car are just fantastic. The Chevelle SS represented Chevrolets entry into the muscle car market in 1966. However the 1966 Chevelle SS 396 became a series of its own in both the sport coupes and convertibles. In these cars the frames were reinforced along with revised front suspension that was recalibrated for the muscle car stance and stability. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION FROM THE SELLER The seller of this New Mexico car has indicated that he bought this car from the original owner several years ago and has pampered it and cared for it as the original owner had always done. The seller said that the car was painted Atlantic Blue which is a Chevelle color but not the color the car was born with in 1966. We totally agree that this is a striking color for showing off the lines of the car. The original bumpers were also re-chromed at the time of the new paint. The 396 engine with 375 horse power was totally overhauled and only has about 50 miles on it since completed. The N.O.S. interior with black vinyl bucket seats and N.O.S. carpet, N.O.S. headliner N.O.S. seats and N.O.S. dashboard and it looks very sharp and fresh. The original steering wheel was restored to original specs. The car has a new heater. The original radio in the car has been upgraded with the addition of a new stereo under the dash. All electrical on the car has been gone through to make sure it is working properly and all wiring on car is brand new. All seals on windows are brand new and all windows work properly. Seller has all receipts and paperwork showing work done.
Previous owner gave seller the original owner’s manual. The seller has told us this is a no rust car being that is from New Mexico and also has new radial tires. Check out the original RALLY WHEELS on the car!! Information from the VIN 138176K (six digit sequence) 13800 SS396 SERIES MODEL 13817 ~ 2-DOOR SPORT COUPE, 5-PASSENGER KANSAS CITY, MO Please check picture of the VIN TAG number 13817.
This is a beautiful 1966 Chevelle Super Sport and is ready for its new owner! Bid with Confidence! So, if you are looking for a muscle car that is relatively inexpensive in the muscle car world, has great lines and absolutely beautiful color (just check out that beautiful blue) and is highly detailed, this could be the car for you. The interesting thing about Chevelles is that they not only appeal to the generation that grew up with them but it also seems that the younger generations appreciate the classic lines of this car also. The current owner is pushing 70 and has decided that it is time for the car to have a new caretaker just as he himself has taken care of the car himself for almost a decade. XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxX

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be
Thu, May 27 2021We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.      View this post on Instagram            A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.      View this post on Instagram            A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be. "Turbo" Chevrolet Camaro is a 700-HP fantasy car come to life [w/video]
Thu, 07 Feb 2013For a concept car built to promote an animated movie about a snail that wants to go racing, this thing ain't half bad. The outsized monster you see before you started life as a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, and then went through a big-time Hollywood makeover before being positioned on the Chevrolet stand here in Chicago.
This 2013 "Turbo" Camaro Coupe is getting the promotion machine ratcheted up for a new DreamWorks tale by the name of, you guessed it, Turbo. Coming this summer, the movie will follow one snail's quest to become a race driver worthy of making the cut at the Indy 500. Like many DreamWorks vehicles before it, we're guessing that the petrolhead snail will star in a movie that adults (especially racing fans) with have no trouble watching with their kids. Check out the trailer below to see if you agree.
As for the car, we're told that it is "instrumental" in transforming Turbo from snail into racer. Helping the beastly pony car in this mighty task, is an ankle-cracking front splitter matched by a ungodly huge rear wing out back, a COPO hood and a supercharged (yes, supercharged) V8 engine making more than 700 horsepower. 24-inch wheels all the way around - 10-inches wide in front and 15-inches wide in back - should allow the "Turbo" Camaro to hook up with ease, as well.
Chevy Volt gets customer satisfaction 'recall' for rear hatch issue *UPDATE*
Mon, Jan 26 2015Last week, General Motors has issued a "Customer Satisfaction program" for some 2011-2015 model year Chevrolet Volts to fix the manual rear lift gate not working as appropriate. According to Volt owner posts on Facebook, the problem manifests itself by the hatch not opening up all the way (sometimes worse in the cold) with some people bumping their heads. Dealers will replace the lift gate struts as part of the program. Some drivers were notified through the vehicle's OnStar system that there is a problem. GM has not yet said how many Volts are affected. *UPDATE* This program is for all 2011-2015 model year Volts. Chevrolet spokesperson Michelle Malcho told AutoblogGreen that, "This is not a recall, so there won't be any formal information posted on the GM website." The fixes will be free to affected Volt owners. Some 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX vehicles are also affected by the same problem and will also be fixed.
