For Sale:  1989 Chevrolet Caprice Classic, 9c1 packaged, max-optioned.  COMPLETELY RUST FREE IN ORIGINAL FACTORY CONDITION.

Description:  This is the last of the great Caprices.  It has the complete 9c1 package, including the full-size spare, mounted in the trunk, jack and lug wrench.  It has the green silicone hoses, over-sized radiator, transmission cooler, over-sized sway bars, front and rear, HD shocks, 15" 5 x 5 steel wheels, 1/2T suspension, heater by-pass valve, R-12 A/C, Tilt, Power Door Locks, Power Windows--everything this car could come with, it has.  This car was built in San Antonio, Texas and delivered to the State of California in 1989.  It was a detective's car.  It has never had spot lights, radio antennas, holes drilled in the dash, or anything else maligning the beautiful, perfectly straight RUST FREE body.  I bought the car three years ago from a gentleman in Van Nuys, CA.  He had purchased the car from a local school district at auction.  His only competition in the bidding was from the principal who had been assigned the car to use in his duties.  The car apparently spent most of it's life in a police garage, seldom used and eventually transferred to the Los Angeles County School district.  The principal claimed that it was the nicest car he'd ever had, and never had one problem with the car.  I bought it sight un-seen and drove it back to Texas, where it has served me well, and continues to serve me as my daily driver.

Condition:  There is NOT ONE thing wrong with this car.  I drive it to work every day.  I am selling this caprice because it is a luxury to own it and my work truck.  I plan on using the money from the sale of this beautiful car to pay off some of my bills and add on to our home.  The 9c1 package is ALL ORIGINAL and AMAZING!  All the physical gauges work perfectly.  All the "idiot" lights work perfectly.  The 350 TBI has not had one thing done to it except regular oil, filter and water changes.  It starts up, the first time, every time, hot or cold outside, the car is warm or cool within minutes as dictated by the driver.  The car has speed-rated 15" tires which are less than a year old.  The power windows all work, at the driver's control panel and on each  door.  The 125 mph speedo works, all the way to 123 mph.  The car does need paint.  The original black paint is still on the lower half of the car.  Silver with a red pin-stripe was added by the principal some time in the mid-90's.  He also added the door-ding rubber trim.  This was not original to the car.  This is not a repaint.  The black is the original patina as the door jam photo clearly shows.  The rear deck lid was replaced by myself. I did this because there were two pin-hole rust spots on the forward top corners of the original deck lid.  I have never seen spots like this on any Caprice I've owned before, and I have owned many.  This is the finest caprice I have ever owned.  The car will come with all the bumper filler hardware and a COMPLETE, BRAND NEW SET OF BUMPER FILLER pieces in the boxes, FRONT & REAR!  New or Recent:  15" speed-rated tires, radiator flush, oil filter and oil, serpentine belt, Brakes, front and rear.  GET IN AND DRIVE IT ANYWHERE, DRIVE IT ALL THE WAY TO ALASKA IF YOU WANT.  YOU WILL NOT NEED TO DO ANYTHING TO THIS BEAUTIFUL, ORIGINAL 9c1 Caprice!

Extras:  There have been some additions to the car.  I have had the transmission cross-member "frenched" and professionally welded to accommodate a professionally installed dual exhaust system, with cats and resonators in their stock locations.  The exhaust system on the car utilizes all the original mounts, and still retains the single oxygen sensor.  It does not sag down, but is tucked up neatly, completely, under the entire undercarriage. It also has a set of HD air shocks on the rear and a class III receiver hitch with 7 and 5-plug electric trailer hook ups.  Also installed is a trailer brake modulator.  The car is more than capable of towing 4,000 lbs with a 400 lb tongue weight.  I have also had a CD / USB Premiere Stereo System installed.  I have the original AM/FM cassette, mounting plate and face plate that will go with the car.  I have also up-graded the speakers under the dash and in the rear header panel.  You can not tell because I used all the factory mounts for the new speakers.  NOTHING was cut to do this, anywhere, and the original wiring harness was NOT cut.  The components are all "plug and play," utilizing the original wiring harness cannon plug.  I have also added an LS Brougham trunk liner and matting to keep the noise to a minimum.  I also removed the original 9c1 seats, (front bench), and installed the LS Brougham velour blue interior you see in the pictures.  I have the original 9c1 seats, front and rear, and they will go with the car.  They are the 9c1 woven tweed pattern.  This is an ORIGINAL Texas car, that spent it's service life in California.  There is NO RUST on this beautiful car.  This is as solid as they come; you will not find a more solid, more beautifully original JET Black 9c1 anywhere in this kind of condition.

The title is IN MY NAME, titled in the state of Texas, currently registered and insured in my name through August of 2016 on my disabled Veteran's Plates.  You can write your own bill of sale for your state and we can notarize it together.  I will turn the title over to you once the car has been paid for in FULL.  The car comes with two complete sets of keys, and all the extras that have been aforementioned.  You can fly into Killeen Airport, in Killeen, Texas and I will pick you up in the car.  You can drive it ANYWHERE.  It will come with a full tank of gas and a fresh oil and filter change, with a complete lube on the front end and drive train.

YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED.  This car is only being sold to finance an addition to our home and consolidate some bills.  The offer status is set to accept reasonable offers close to my asking price; or you can buy it through Pay Pal.  The car is NOT for sale locally.  I will sell it for cash, in person.  VOICE call or TEXT (254) 368-7399 for additional information.  I am retired Army.  I am a welder now as a civilian.  If I don't answer, I will get back to you as soon as possible.

GM executive chief EV engineer says reducing cost of plug-in vehicles is 'huge priority'

Mon, Mar 17 2014

As we know, another major automaker investing heavily in electrified vehicles is General Motors, and it's doing things much differently than rivals BMW, Ford or Nissan. The Chevrolet Volt extended-range EV is a modest seller at its $35,000 sticker price but a huge hit with owners. The Chevy Spark BEV, still in limited availability, puts smiley faces on its owners and drivers. The just-introduced Cadillac ELR, a sharp-looking, fun-driving $76,000 luxocoupe take on the Volt's EREV mechanicals, has admittedly low sales expectations. With this interesting trio in showrooms and much more in the works, the third vehicle electrification leader I collared for an interview at Detroit's North American International Auto Show (see #1 and #2) was Pam Fletcher, GM's executive chief engineer, Electrified Vehicles. ABG: Why do your EREVs need four-cylinder power to extend their range when BMW's i3 makes do with an optional 650 cc two-banger? "We designed [the Volt and the ELR] to go anywhere, any time" - Pam Fletcher PF: I get that question all the time: why not something smaller? You don't really need that much. You use the electric to its ability, then you just need to limp. But we designed those cars to go anywhere, any time, and we don't want their performance to be compromised. If you're driving through the mountains, we don't want you to be crawling up grades, or to be limited on any terrain. So it's optimized to be able to travel literally the biggest grades and mountain roads around the globe at posted speeds. Because what if you can't? Another good reason: when the engine is on, you have to run it wide open throttle, max speed, most of the time. And while we can do a lot with acoustics, and the ELR has active noise cancelation, a small-displacement, low cylinder-count engine at high speed, high load all the time isn't something you want to live with. That's how we came up with the balance we did among the key factors of performance, NVH [noise, vibration and harshness] and range. ABG: Where you go from here? Is the range-extender engine due for an update? PF: We know and love the current Volt, and there is still a lot of acclaim about it, so we think it's a good recipe. But we are heavily in the midst of engineering the next-generation car, which I think everyone will love and be excited about.

Our favorite mid-engine Corvette theories and rumors

Tue, Sep 13 2016

The mid-engine Corvette! We just saw blurry photos through the foliage, and are hearts are all aflutter because it means that this car is real. And it's the most " never before" Corvette since 1984. Which leads us to all kinds of wacky theories and speculation. Everybody knows something or heard from a guy. None of those guys (or gals) from GM are talking to Autoblog, to be clear. But that won't stop us from stirring the pot. Let's go over a few point-by-point. The pushrod engine will be replaced by an overhead-cam V8 Car and Driver has repeatedly reported that an overhead-cam engine will come after the mid-engine Corvette's debut with an old-school pushrod. We've heard the same thing firsthand, albeit from a source with no connection to the development of the Corvette or powertrain. "At some point two valves can't pass future emissions regulations," said the guy we know. While the pushrod engine is compact, the design makes it difficult - if not impossible - for sophisticated variable valve timing (and lift) systems that control combustion with more precision. Hasty conclusion: The pushrod engine has a finite life in front of it. This one's a lock, it's a just a matter of when. Bowling Green's new paint shop is really the mid-engine assembly line Credit to Reddit for this one. Like we said, everybody knows a guy. But let's look deeper. The new paint facility costs $439 million dollars and adds 450,000 square feet, almost half the size of the existing plant. Plus GM announced another $290 million in upgrades at Bowling Green Assembly. That sure sounds like a lot of money, but you can actually spend that much on a paint booth. Porsche spent 500 million Euros (about $561 million dollars) to add the Macan assembly to its Leipzig, Germany plant in 2014. Chrysler shelled out $850 million for a paint shop in Sterling Heights, Michigan. GM spent $600 million for a new paint shop at the Fairfax (Kansas City) plant. Honda, on the other hand, is working on a thrifty $210 million project in Marysville, Ohio that includes a 300,000 square foot expansion, and the low-volume Acura NSX facility only cost $70 million. Hasty conclusion: The square footage and cost could easily mean a new assembly line instead of (or in addition to) a paint line. And if the NSX plant was really that cheap, GM could have hidden a similar sum in its existing announcements.

Chevy might've pulled out of NASCAR if it weren't for new Gen 6 car

Wed, 20 Feb 2013

We've been on the fence with NASCAR for some time now. On one hand, it's some of the closest racing anywhere in motorsports, with actual passing and door-handle-to-door-handle action as a matter of course. But on the other, it's become template racing - a personality-driven sport more about the drivers than any sort of loyalty to a particular automaker. The Car Of Tomorrow format really rammed that message home, with a racecar's identity coming down to little more than headlamp stickers slapped on the nose. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but we've wondered for some time what's in it for the automakers, who pay big money to stay in a series that has had little increasingly little do with street car sales, let alone innovation.
Apparently General Motors was beginning to wonder the same thing. In a new ESPN report, Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, suggests that GM would have seriously considered leaving NASCAR if it wasn't for the move away from the COT to the new Gen 6 racer. According to Hendrick, GM North America boss Mark Reuss spearheaded the charge away from the 2007 COT and toward a racecar with clearer automaker ties - cars like the new Chevrolet SS racer shown above. Learn more about the fight for a closer-to-production look in the ESPN story at the link.
Now, if we could just get more rear-wheel drive V8 coupes into showrooms....
