1985 Chevrolet Caprice Classic With 355 Sbc on 2040-cars
Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States
I bought this car when it moved up from I believe Arkansas with a blown motor. the car is really clean and I took the motor and trans out sanded painted and undercoated from the firewall back to the back bumper. the engine bay was cleaned where I could get to it. the original 700r4 overdrive transmission is in it. in the last few months ive done all 4 shocks, radiator, exhaust and header gaskets, alternator and starter, heater core, some vacuum lines, window motor, window tint, wipers, oil change, outer window seals, low beam headlights, the list goes on and on. its my daily driver so the miles will go up, I just have too many cars and trying to sell a few off. the motor in it is from a 73 chevy its a 4 bolt main 010 block that done along time ago and I had it sitting around and put it in the car. the four bolt main motor is now .030 over so its a 355 cubic inch motor with flat top pistons if I remember right its a comp cams 268 cam but it might be the 262 cam. long tube headers and the intake is the original 1985 aluminum one from the 305 that the car came with, the "tamper proof" carb has had all the adjustments opened up so its tuneable. all the a/c stuff is still there but doesn't work, I did a trans flush a couple months back also. when the motor went in I had dual exhaust from the headers all the way back to the rear bumper put on. true duals!! with raptor mufflers it sounds pretty mean. it has a sony cd deck in it, and a kicker amp with a single 12" subwoofer in the trunk. now the bad: a vacuum line leak wont let the heater controls change the position so its stuck half on defrost and floor, the washers dont work and if you turn the wipers on they stay on until you shut the car off. passenger window rolls down but it picks and chooses when it wants to go up sometimes, the windshield has a crack in it, the driver seat motor runs I can hear it but the seat doesn't move, the rear bumper filler pieces are missing and the left front wheel trim moulding is missing, the top of the hood and trunk are sun baked, the door seals leak a little water when you wash the car or in a heavy rain and you get a little wind noise from them when going down the road. like I said I daily drive it so it doesn't really affect how it runs and drives, I like the car its big and roomy but I have too many cars and cant keep paying storage for everything |

Chevy might've pulled out of NASCAR if it weren't for new Gen 6 car
Wed, 20 Feb 2013We've been on the fence with NASCAR for some time now. On one hand, it's some of the closest racing anywhere in motorsports, with actual passing and door-handle-to-door-handle action as a matter of course. But on the other, it's become template racing - a personality-driven sport more about the drivers than any sort of loyalty to a particular automaker. The Car Of Tomorrow format really rammed that message home, with a racecar's identity coming down to little more than headlamp stickers slapped on the nose. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but we've wondered for some time what's in it for the automakers, who pay big money to stay in a series that has had little increasingly little do with street car sales, let alone innovation.
Apparently General Motors was beginning to wonder the same thing. In a new ESPN report, Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, suggests that GM would have seriously considered leaving NASCAR if it wasn't for the move away from the COT to the new Gen 6 racer. According to Hendrick, GM North America boss Mark Reuss spearheaded the charge away from the 2007 COT and toward a racecar with clearer automaker ties - cars like the new Chevrolet SS racer shown above. Learn more about the fight for a closer-to-production look in the ESPN story at the link.
Now, if we could just get more rear-wheel drive V8 coupes into showrooms....
Chevy's low-cost pedestrian avoidance to debut on 2016 Malibu
Tue, Jul 28 2015The mainstreaming of safety technologies that began on luxury vehicles will get a big boost from General Motors later this year. The General says it plans to offer 22 driver assistance systems across its product portfolio of 2016 models, starting with the redesigned Chevrolet Malibu - the one that we know will keep tabs on teenagers for the benefit of parents. Pedestrian avoidance will be another of its available options. Instead of kitting the sedan out with numerous and expensive radar arrays, the GM system uses the camera mounted next to the rearview mirror that is already used for the lane-keeping function. New software lets it detect pedestrians, and when it detects a potential collision with one, it can alert the driver and brake autonomously if the driver doesn't react. Eventually, engineers want to give it the ability to do the same with cyclists. Because it uses existing hardware updated with new code, GM says the application costs "a few hundred dollars." GM demonstrated the Front Pedestrian Braking preventing a crash with a dummy pedestrian at speeds up to 15 miles per hour. Automotive News reports that it will reduce the severity of impact up to 40 miles per hour, but "may not be of much use in collisions at higher speeds." That feature will also join the options list of the Cadillac CT6. The press release below has more on GM's driver tech soon on the way. Safety engineers will develop and test these and other safety technologies for products around the world at GM's new, 52-acre Active Safety Test Area at its Milford Proving Ground near Detroit. The $14 million facility officially opened Friday. "Our comprehensive safety strategy of helping customers before, during and after a crash continues," said Jeff Boyer, vice president of GM Global Vehicle Safety.
