1972 Chevrolet Caprice Original Survivor Impala on 2040-cars

Year:1972 Mileage:63000
Location:

Omaha, Nebraska, United States

Omaha, Nebraska, United States

1972 Chevrolet Caprice 2 door hardtop. An above average condition, original car. It has a little under 63,000 actual miles. I bought it from the original owner’s family last winter. It is truly a small town Nebraska barn find. An original car, in hard to find condition. Has a clear Nebraska title.

The engine is a 400 big block 4 barrel. Known as the “402”. It has an automatic transmission. Air, tilt wheel and AM radio. As well as power steering and power brakes.

The car runs and drives beautifully. In about 1994, after the fathers’ death, the car was pulled from storage and had over $4000.00 spent on it to get it running. A new timing chain was installed as well as the following: Intake gasket, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket. All oil and fluids were drained and refilled. The transmission was serviced with new fluid, filter, gasket. The rear end (non posi), has new fluid and gasket. There are no oil leaks. The gas tank was replaced with another used one. Carb worked on and fuel filter replaced. Brakes checked and repaired as needed. That was in ’94. I went thru the fuel system again.  I Cleaned the carb, pulled and redone the gas tank professionally, and put in a new fuel filter. Replaced the fuel pump and installed a new muffler.

The paint on the car is considered a 20 footer. Looks great, but upon close inspection there are chips and small dings. The worst chips are located on the front header panel and around the headlights. There are some paint imperfections not showing well in the pictures. Look closely. But...overall real nice car. The trunk floor and underbody are very solid. There is significant road rash from gravel roads down low behind the wheels. There is a rust area in front of the driver side rear wheel way down low. Very little to no rust everywhere else. Paint appears to be mostly original with some work done over the years, never wrecked!

The interior is the strong point. The seats, carpet, dash are all very nice. The door panels are perfect with the exception of the drivers door plastic that faded more than the passenger side. But still very nice. The dash pad is perfect. No cracking in the speaker area at all! Never smoked in and the lighter and ashtray are perfect. All gages work properly.

The AM radio does not work. The tires are old. The A/C doesn’t work however the compressor clutch is not locked up. A charge should do it. I don’t have any r12 refridgerent. The brakes are power but they feel manual. I think maybe the power booster or the plastic check valve need replaced. At night with the headlights on I smell a bit of burning?? Maybe just a fluke? Or a short in the headlight system. However the lights work just fine. Remember, this car sat a long time. There is no mice or rodent smell or damage anywhere that I can see. I’m sure the car needs things that I’m not aware of, or things you just might want to do on your own. This is a heck of a nice good running car but is sold “AS IS”. Its 42 years old. I maybe a bit critical in my description, but I feel you can never have too much information in dealing on the internet. My feedback is perfect and I describe all my items accurately.

Again the car is sold as is. Please have funds available when bidding. No or low feedback members must contact me BEFORE bidding, or I WILL CANCEL your bid. Bidders that feel the need to retract bids, please go on to the next car. This ad is costing me money. Shipping is up to the winning bidder. I will assist as much as I can. Thanks and good luck! You should love this original survivor type car! Bernie 402 659 1118 Call anytime for more info!!

Body shop manager stole over $500,000 worth of government trucks and parts

Fri, Jan 27 2017

The US Department of Justice announced yesterday that the manager of a collision and restoration business in Virginia admitted he helped misappropriate and sell vehicles and parts from the State Department. Specifically, he sold 12 Chevrolet Suburbans, a Hummer, and $7,500 worth of tires and wheels. He pled guilty to charges to commit theft of government property and wire fraud. He will likely see 18 to 20 months in prison, a fine of $4,000 to $40,000, and has already agreed to pay restitution of $416,020 and asset forfeiture of the same amount. According to the Department of Justice, the body shop manager, James Ratcliffe, worked with the owner of the business and a State Department official, both unnamed, to obtain the property. It started with the wheels and tires, which were delivered and sold on two occasions, one in 2011 and another in 2012. The trucks came later, and were sold throughout 2011 and 2013. Ratcliffe and the shop owner kept most of the profits, and shared some of the leftovers with the government official. In addition to the vehicles that were sold, the government official also gave Ratcliffe a pair of Suburbans for his own personal use. The Department of Justice estimated the total value of the SUVs at $96,400. In total, the group misappropriated $512,420 worth of property. Related Video:

Corvette Stingray designer lists five goals of new exterior shape

Fri, 12 Apr 2013

Redesigning an icon is a difficult task, especially when you've got a blank sheet of paper in front of you and the all-new C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is intended to be your final objective.
General Motors has released a new short video featuring Kirk Bennion of the Corvette's exterior design team, talking about the challenges of sculpting Chevrolet's new flagship sports car and the five goals the team had to keep in mind as it worked. In the end, Bennion's team had the pleasure of seeing their hard work take center stage as the Corvette captured the world's eyes at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.

EcoCar3 will convert Camaro to bitchin' eco rides

Sat, Apr 26 2014

In the 47-year-history of the Chevrolet Camaro, there have been countless college-age kids spending a ton of time getting under the hood and souping 'em up. Now, General Motors is adding a twist to the concept by donating 16 Camaros for the EcoCar challenge that puts university teams together to wring out better fuel-efficiency out of various vehicles. No word on whether there will be donuts on anyone's lawn, as suggested by 80's punks the Dead Milkmen, but the idea's never a bad one. EcoCar3 will feature 16 teams such as Arizona State, Penn State, Ontario's University of Waterloo and, of course, Detroit's Wayne State University. They'll spend the next four years "[reducing] environmental impact, while maintaining the muscle and performance expected from this iconic American car," as the EcoCar organizers say. The goal is to maintain body design and safety standards while boosting efficiency and lowering emissions, but the actual process is far more complicated than that description suggests. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Bosch are among the sponsors of the contest, which is also put on by the US Department of Energy and managed by Argonne National Laboratory. Penn State won Year Two of the three-year EcoCar 2 competition with its E85 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle converted out of a Chevy Malibu. The grand-prize winner of EcoCar2 will be announced in June. Check out the EcoCar3 website and see the announcement video below for more details. This content is hosted by a third party.
