1966 Chevrolet Impala Caprice Station Wagon 9 Passenger on 2040-cars
United States
1966 Chevrolet Caprice 9 passenger wagon that's an all orignal Southern CA black plate car that I purchased a few years back in San Diego. This is an incredible original car with several after market items installed by the original lady owner. I bought the car from a guy who I believe purchased from the original owner when she gave up driving. I have a ton of receipts that go with the car, as well as, the orignal owners manual and Pro-Tecto-Plate. This is one of four 1966 Caprice wagons that I have owned. I decided I wanted one and I kept buying them till I found this one. The other three were either too far gone and were parted out or sold. I held onto this one because it was by far the nicest original Caprice wagon I'd found. But I've had my fun owning it and now I need to let it go.
Car is equipped with a 325HP V8, TH 400 transmission, power steering, power brakes, power windows at all doors and tailgate, Four Season AC, Tilt-Telescopic steering, AM radio, roof rack, rear window wind deflector. Aftermarket items installed by the previous owner are cruise control, temp and oil gauges, and an "altimeter". All the options work well except the AM radio and teh AC needs to be charged. The car runs and drives great. It does use oil but I don't drive it much so I can guestimate how much. But it doesn't smoke nor does it leave large puddles on the ground. Brakes work great and it has new tires. Registration is current through FEB 2015. It had the original front bench seat when I bought the car and all the interior was original too. I acquired a Strato-bench seat from a 1966 Caprice 4 door hardtop, purchased the correct Madrid grain vinyls and had the seat restored and installed. Yes, it looks factory. The second seat was recovered at the same time but I left the third seat. It has the optional carpeted cargo area with stainless trim. I've installed new green carpet on the floors and the tailgate. I have enough carpet left to finish the cargo area and I have all of the original stainless trim that was on the cargo bed. All that needs to be done is lay the carpet and install the trim. It also needs a new headliner and sunvisors. I believe I have a correct headliner kit for the car and (if I find it) it will come with the car. The door panels are in excellent shape but, when I bought the vinyl for the seats, I also had a set of door panels restored because I was concerned the old panels wouldn't look good against the seats. But they don't look bad so the new owner gets a spare set of door panels included. I also had the armrest bases re chromed.-they're not repops, you can't even buy re-pop rear armrests for the 65-67 Caprice or Impala yet. The original instrument panel is in really nice shape but the dash pad is shot. Therefore I am including a correct dark green new dash pad the new owner can install. Car also comes with original GM green floor mats in the front, rear and in the third row seat-all in great shape. Seat belts are also original but have not yet been re installed-they will come with the car. I also had all of the side panels in the cargo area reupholstered in the correct matching green vinyl, and there is extrea vinyl that comes with the car. The exterior is in very good shape considering its age. There's a small dent on the passenger front fender, and 40 plus years of nicks and chips and maybe a few small dings in the paint and body. The floors are rock solid, the third seat floor has surface rust that needs cleaning up before painting but there's no rust through. The anodized aluminum is faded and oxydized and the orignal vinyl wood grain trim is long gone. I am also including an NOS woodgrain panel that mounts on the tailgate. I think the paint would buff out nice if someone took their time with it, but it would take a fresh coat of Willow Green and new woodgrain to really do it justice. Please feel free to ask questions or if you needs pics of a specific area. Thanks for looking! |

"Turbo" Chevrolet Camaro is a 700-HP fantasy car come to life [w/video]
Thu, 07 Feb 2013For a concept car built to promote an animated movie about a snail that wants to go racing, this thing ain't half bad. The outsized monster you see before you started life as a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, and then went through a big-time Hollywood makeover before being positioned on the Chevrolet stand here in Chicago.
This 2013 "Turbo" Camaro Coupe is getting the promotion machine ratcheted up for a new DreamWorks tale by the name of, you guessed it, Turbo. Coming this summer, the movie will follow one snail's quest to become a race driver worthy of making the cut at the Indy 500. Like many DreamWorks vehicles before it, we're guessing that the petrolhead snail will star in a movie that adults (especially racing fans) with have no trouble watching with their kids. Check out the trailer below to see if you agree.
As for the car, we're told that it is "instrumental" in transforming Turbo from snail into racer. Helping the beastly pony car in this mighty task, is an ankle-cracking front splitter matched by a ungodly huge rear wing out back, a COPO hood and a supercharged (yes, supercharged) V8 engine making more than 700 horsepower. 24-inch wheels all the way around - 10-inches wide in front and 15-inches wide in back - should allow the "Turbo" Camaro to hook up with ease, as well.
Surprise! GM putting aluminum in next-gen pickups
Wed, Aug 5 2015Last month, General Motors launched a series of ads touting the benefits of steel over aluminum – specifically, with regard to the Chevy Silverado versus the Ford F-150. (Kind of. We're not sure what a grizzly bear has to do with anything.) We took issue with the ads, with editor in chief Mike Austin saying they "reek of insecurity, and distract from the Silverado's strengths that could be used for positive advertising." But what bothers us more, is that yet another report surfaced claiming anti-aluminum GM will indeed use the weight-saving material in its next-generation fullsize trucks. On Tuesday, GM announced a $877-million investment for its truck plant in Flint, MI. But Reuters says that huge overhaul is because the trucks will use "substantially different equipment than the tools GM uses today." The report specifically states, "People familiar with the company's plans say GM's next-generation pickups and SUVs will make use of various materials, including aluminum and lightweight steel, to shed weight and gain fuel efficiency to meet tougher federal standards." The Silverado already uses a few aluminum components in the engine and hood, and if more widespread use will help GM build its best fullsize trucks ever, then that's great. Honestly, we have no reason to doubt that aluminum will be used in the next Silverado and GMC Sierra. We just hope GM remembers that nothing is ever truly deleted from the bowels of the Internet when it launches the subsequent "look how great aluminum is!" campaign. Seeing the Detroit Auto Show via drone
Sun, Jan 18 2015Seeing the Chevrolet display at the Detroit Auto Show is worth doing this year, and not just because of the new Corvette Z06, Volt and Bolt concept. In order to attract the new kids, The Bowtie has gone what the old kids used to call "buck wild" with their show stand at Cobo Hall. A Corvette Z06, Trax, and Colorado are parked along a central aisle, called Mainstreet, at the end of which is a 20-foot-tall, 73-foot long transparent screen lording over the new Volt. Elsewhere are five more 20-foot-tall screens broadcasting nine stories today's Chevrolet wants to tell about its vehicles, from performance to belief in the power of play to its 4G LTE-equipped OnStar telematics service. Then there are the social media and virtual reality safety installations, the community presentations and more. Chevrolet flew a drone through the stand to show off what it's doing, which is has replaced eye-level video as the next best thing to being there. You can check it out in the video above.
