1968 Camaro RS/SS 396, 375 Horsepower, 4-spd, 4.56 Posi Rear

Here we have a numbers-matching, true original SS Camaro with only 79k original miles.  It received a ground-up restoration in 1991 and has been extremely well maintained throughout its entire life.  The body, engine, rear-end, and transmission are all original.  It is very rare to find a true numbers matching Super Sport Camaro in this generation.  This is no clone or "restomod"--this is the real thing.  In excellent condition, his car needs nothing and is ready to be your daily driver, weekend cruiser, or show car.

The original 396 V8 runs like new.  The car shifts, brakes, and steers like it should.  The interior and paint are absolutely gorgeous.  The body is super straight with no dents, dings, scratches, or rust anywhere on the car.  It doesn't get much better than this.  The judges at the Super Chevy Show certainly thought so--this car won Best in Class 5 times! (award plaques are pictured below).  Everything is correct down to smallest detail.  To find an original SS in this condition is extremely rare--don't let this one pass you by!

All original documentation, including the Protecto-Plate and window sticker, are included and have been remarkably well-preserved.  In many cases for vehicles in this generation, matching the SS option and VIN on the window sticker to the VIN on the car is the only way to know for sure that it is a true SS.  In addition to these documents, the current owner has put together an extremely detailed and comprehensive report concerning the validation and background of the vehicle which you can read by clicking here.

TERMS OF SALE:

Please remember that a bid is a legally binding contract to buy the vehicle if you are the high bidder--just as in auctions you physically attend.  The terms listed below are part of that contract, and a bid constitutes acceptance of these terms.  Please don't bid unless you are serious--it costs time and money to list vehicles on eBay:

At least a $500 DEPOSIT MUST BE RECEIVED WITHIN 5 DAYS, or the vehicle may be re-listed or offered to an under-bidder, and an unpaid item report will be filed with eBay.  The balance must be paid within 2 WEEKS.  Full payment or deposit is accepted in the form of money order, cashier's check, wire transfer, or cash.  PAYPAL IS NOT ACCEPTED FOR VEHICLE PURCHASES.

The vehicle is sold as-is with no warranty expressed or implied.  All sales are final.  Questions and test drives are encouraged in order to clear up any concerns about the vehicle, but the buyer must do so before bidding.  Extensive effort is made to inspect the vehicle and report all flaws and features accurately and completely, however, there is always a possibility of errors in the listing or that something was missed during the inspection.  The buyer is responsible for making sure the vehicle is what they want prior to bidding.

In the event that there is a significant discrepancy between the actual condition of the vehicle and the condition stated in the listing, the seller will--AT THE SELLER'S OPTION--either offer a discount, remedy the problem, or cancel the sale and refund the deposit.  Such discounts, remedies, or cancellations will not be offered after the vehicle has been shipped or had ownership transferred to the buyer.

IF YOU CANNOT MEET THESE TERMS--DO NOT BID.

SHIPPING:

The buyer should arrange their own shipping or pick up the vehicle in person.  If desired, the seller can ship the vehicle if the buyer pays all costs in advance.

The Volt Dance had precedent; meet the Chevy Footlockers

Sun, Dec 14 2014

Marketing in the auto industry can get weird sometimes – really quite bizarre, in fact. For example, remember the Chevy Volt dance from the 2009 Los Angles Auto Show? If not, a group boogied to a song about the electric car, and it was every bit as awkward (and hilarious) as that sounds. In fact, that innocent bit of promotion lives in infamy, as some pundits grabbed hold of it during General Motors' bailout and asked why America's tax dollars were going to such things. The Chicago Auto Show has been digging through its vault of vintage videos, and it has come up with something that might actually be worse than that Volt-themed routine. They're called the Chevy Footlockers, and they're a dance troupe somehow promoting the Cavalier at the 1988 Chicago show. The connection between the car and their routine is unclear, but it's gloriously cheesy in a Chippendales-meets-AC Slater sort of way. Also, there are props towards the end, but we aren't going to spoil them for you, because you just have to watch for yourself. As a bonus, there's another (brief) clip below showing a female dance group with the Geo Tracker at the '91 Chicago show, and they sing, too. Scroll down to watch both of these oddities. Train derailment leaves Jeep, GMC, Chevy pickups damaged in Nevada

Thu, Jul 11 2019

An unfortunate train derailment is causing some inevitable delays for pickup truck customers west of Nevada. Yesterday morning, 33 train cars derailed in Lincoln County, and the cargo that was being transported consisted of new Jeep Gladiators and Wranglers along with Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras, judging from the photos released by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. The train derailment also caused the adjacent road to be closed, and local law enforcement recommends the area is to be avoided as long as it takes to clean it all up. In the photos, damaged Jeeps and other trucks sit either on their wheels or shiny-side-down as the incident is being assessed. Available information says there were thankfully no personal injuries, but itÂ’s not likely any of these trucks will end up in customer hands, even with a significant discount. Pre-registration transport damage, significant or not, has often resulted in scrapping complete vehicles so that manufacturers can steer clear of liability issues. Hooniverse.com, which also reported on the incident, notes a couple of interesting things. Firstly, the upended Gladiator seems to have a pretty sturdy support structure for its glasshouse, thanks to its new rollbars. Another matter is that the GM trucks, also pictured, wear discreet and temporary transport steel wheels instead of fancier items, perhaps to deter thieves eager to grab a shiny set from trucks on their way to the dealer. Still, itÂ’s a shame these vehicles could never fulfill their hauling purposes in the hands of new owners. Perhaps the manufacturers can at least use the damage for data-gathering purposes. Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.
