Originally there were to be 100 Neiman Marcus Edition Camaro's built. That was the idea from the
Neiman Marcus Christmas Catalog, page 44, in 2010. To get one you had to call an (800) number
on October 19th 2010 at 12:00 E.S.T. and cross your fingers. All 100, were "snapped up", in under
3 minutes. They were to be delivered in April 2011 but that didn't happen. Those of us on the list were
informed in March 2011 that they would be delayed till mid-Summer, 2011. Once they were built and
shipped, only 75 of these cars were built in total ( 30 Manual and 45 Automatic transmissions ). There
was no actual explanation as to why the additional 25 were not built.
This one was built on July 5th, 2011 and was the 12th one produced. They were shipped in enclosed
trucks. I picked mine up on July 11th. Each of these cars has their very own Birth Certificate as well
as a window sticker with a M.S.R.P. of $75,000. Aside from the COPO Camaro, these are the rarest of
the 5th Generation Camaro's made.
I spoke to the actual company that painted the cars for G.M. in Michigan. I got ahold of them to see if
I could get some of the paint they used so I could paint the rear difusser the same as the body. They were
very helpful. The person I spoke to said G.M. asked him to paint a dozen cars then they wanted to see
them in person. When they did see the cars, they said the paint was too perfect. They wanted the "orange
peel" finish on the cars to look like all other factory painted Camaro's. Then he asked me which number
I had and I told him, the 12th. He said I got one of the "good ones". I asked him his opinion as to how much
it would cost to paint my other Camaro the same color. He said over $20K, easily, as they dismantled the car to
paint it. If you open the hood you will notice the engine bay is gloss black. Besides, this tri-coat paint is really expensive.
The window sticker calls the paint "Bordeaux", which is not the actual name after all.
The color is "Mystic Bronze Metallic". You will notice that is does not actually photograph all that well.
When you see one in person, depending on the light, it looks purple, brown, bronze or burgandy.
The paint on this car is perfect. No scratches, chips or dings. It has only been washed 1 time in 19 months.
It has been waxed 9 times. It is kept in an air conditioned and heated garage, under a silk Cover-King cover.
It has never been driven in the rain or even parked outside over night. The top has only been down 5 times.
Before it had 20 miles on it it went to Pro-Tech and got a clear bra treatment . It covers the entire front, lights,
mirrors, rocker panels and bottom rear quarter panels. They did an awesome job then jabbed me with a $1,600 bill for it ( worth it! ).
Now, last thing regarding the paint. Devious Designs, here in Las Vegas, is the best in the business when it comes to painting cars.
The owners literally said that this car has one of the best paint jobs they have ever seen in regard to quality, the wet sand, and the clear coat.
They are also the people who painted the other parts on this car.
The stock, all original car was , yes, really cool. But, I have never been one to leave it at that. Keep in mind that
I have all the O.E.M. parts and the car can be returned to "stock" with ease. In my opionion, I took over from where
the designers quit. Like I mentioned prior, I had the rear difuzzer smoothed and painted the body color. It just
looked unfinished and it really made a big difference. While we were doing that I had a Borla A-Tac cat back
exhaust installed, with an X pipe. It needed to sound like a Camaro, not a sewing machine. After that I installed
the roll bar. With the top down, it looked like it needed to look "tougher", and now it looks really much better than before.
The rims were exclusive on the car. The polish that was done it extremely nice but they didn't accent the cars
colors. My thought the Amber interior would benefit from a gold center mesh rim. I got ahold of Forgeline Racing
and told them what I wanted to do. Not only did I want a "one off" rim, but I wanted a center lock rim. They make
a custom kit that eleminates the lug nuts. They are very light, very cool and over $2,200, each. While that was going
on, we installed Eibach Pro springs to lower the car 1 1/2 inches, all around.
There was something bothering me about the front grille. There was no accent and looked like most other Camaro's. I
ordered the Heritage grille and had it painted the matte gray that the windshield frame came with, another big difference in appearance.
The windows got the latest 3M tint applied, not too dark , just right. The engine is left stock. It's hard to return a car to original if you start
doing motor work. It's a really rare car so I want the value to stay as high as it can. It got an oil change at 500 miles. The car has 960 miles on it.
That from going to some car shows and the Saturday morning car club meets. That is an average of 1.7 miles per day but is no "daily".
This is a great car to add to a collection or as a display for a car audio company.

Mother's Day Suggestion No. 2,506

Thu, 02 May 2013

With Mother's Day coming up, we're always looking for new gift ideas to celebrate the occasion, but hot laps around a track might not be the best suggestion for Darius Khashabi. In a video posted on YouTube, Khashabi straps his mom into the passenger seat of his C6 Corvette Z06 for some laps around Sonoma Raceway (formerly Infineon Raceway) at "60 percent" with comical results.
Now this isn't the first time Mama Khashabi has gotten seat time in her son's car around a track, as his YouTube page shows him pulling a similar stunt - with similar results - around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca last year. Scroll down for the video, but know that the action really gets going at around the 1:40 mark.

GM looks to combat high theft rates on SUVs with added tech

Tue, 24 Dec 2013

The Cadillac Escalade has been at or near the top of most-stolen and insurance-loss lists for more than seven years, until it dropped to number six earlier this year. In 2011 it was fitted with a host of new security features to address its easy-to-override features and that has brought the number of thefts down, but when eight of the ten most stolen rides are large SUVs from General Motors, no one will argue that something else needs to be done.
Thus, GM has fitted this same theft-deterring tech to the 2015 Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon. The Suburban and Tahoe will get the steering lock that the Escalade and Yukon already get, plus bolted-down third-row seats to deter thefts like this, stronger door lock cylinders and shields, and side-cut keys to inhibit picking.
Additional security measures in a Theft Protection Package can be purchased for $395, consisting of sensors on the greenhouse glass and interior, an incline/tilt sensor and added "key control systems" to make it more difficult for the men in black balaclavas to steal what you bought.

First-edition Detroit muscle raises millions for charity at Barrett-Jackson

Mon, Jan 19 2015

Amidst all the classic metal crossing the auction block each year in Scottsdale, AZ, Detroit automakers have a tradition of donating the first examples of their most enticing new muscle cars, with the proceeds of their sales going towards worthwhile charities. This year, Barrett-Jackson handled three noteworthy examples. The highest price among them was the first Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang with the VIN #001, which raised $1 million for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. General Motors donated the first new Chevy Corvette Z06 Convertible, the first retail example of the droptop supercar garnering $800,000 for the United Way. Along with the Z06, GM also donated the first new 2016 Cadillac CTS-V sedan, which brought in $170,000 for Detroit's College for Creative Studies. Although these were the headline Motown muscle machines furnished by the automakers themselves, they weren't the only vehicles auctioned off for worthy causes. A 1950 GM Futurliner bus donated by collector Ron Pratte led the charge when it brought in $4.65 million for the Armed Forces Foundation. Other lots included a custom Jeep Wrangler donated by SEMA ($85k), a new M5 donated by BMW ($800k), a '79 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst ($140k), '39 Cadillac LaSalle C-Hawk ($410k), Jeff Gordon's 1999 NASCAR-spec Chevy Monte Carlo ($500k) and a Victory Cross Country 8-Ball motorcycle ($180k). All told, the charity lots raised over $8.7 million for local and national charities.
