I purchased this Camaro from the original owner in December 2013.  At the time, it had 37,000 miles on it.  As can be seen in the odometer photo, it now has 40,000 +.

I replaced the factory sound system with a high end Pioneer.  It has a CD/DVD player and also a built in navigation system and hands free telephone.  The microphone is in the center of top of windshield so it can pick up the voice of both driver and passenger.  There is a satellite radio antennae which is mounted in the windshield side of the dash. It’s wired so the DVD player can be used while driving (for the passenger’s pleasure).  There is a back-up camera.  Since the video can be on the entire time the car is moving, I use the back-up camera screen as a rearview mirror which is really handy as the rear window in the convertible top is really small.  All factory speakers were replaced with new ones.  The highs are crisp, and the lows are solid with no rattling. There was also a subwoofer and amp installed in the trunk.  Total cost for the sound system was about $2,000.  All original sound equipment goes with the car.

At the same time, I had the windows tinted, including a windshield eyebrow.  That was another $200.  I then put 17 inch wheels and tires on the car- another $1,200.

I ran this ad once before with very little response, so I decided to put it back on with the original equipment.  The 17 inch tires don’t have 500 miles on them.  The factory 16 inch tires are not brand new-but as can be seen in the photo, there is a lot of tread left on them.

Shortly after I purchased the vehicle, I got a 2-1/2 inch cowl induction hood.  When I had it painted, I had the headlight buckets painted to match (as I never thought that black look was appealing). There goes another $1,000,

Clearance lights on all four corners have been replaced with black lenses.  All original lights go with the car. The cowl hood goes with the car.

The original owner had replaced the original top with a factory one just before I purchased the car.  The top is so taut that several people have asked me if it really goes down, or is a padded hardtop.

There are a few chips in the front bumper cover.  I’m not going to count them, because there may be a couple of more by the time it is sold, and I don’t want to be pinned to a number. As can be seen in a couple of the photos, there is a scuff on the side of the driver's seat from the original owner sliding in and out. After a couple of weeks, I no longer noticed it-but just wanted to point it out.

The dent in the passenger's rear quarter panel was on the car when I purchased it. As you can see, it is barely noticeable (the original owner had to point it out to me). The scratch on the top of the fender happened in the body shop when I was having the hood painted. They covered the whole car with plastic to prevent overspray from the hood getting on the car. I feel when they trimmed the plastic they scratched it. However, since they deny it, there is nothing I can do now. As is obvious, unless you look at it head on, you can't even see it.

Please keep in mind, this car is almost 20 years old and it is not a 100 point show car, but it is a way above average driver. As I have nothing to hide, I would prefer people take a test drive before bidding-but that is up to you.  I am located approximately an hour and a half northwest of Little Rock, Arkansas; about one hour south of the Missouri state line on highway 65.

For something that is unmodified, the car sure feels like it has a lot of power.  I was very pleasantly surprised at the gas mileage I was getting-around 25 mpg on open road.

Once I got all this work done, and drove it for a short time, I realized I just didn’t enjoy it that much.  I’m used to sports cars, and this car just feels big to me -although I think most people would be tickled to death with it!  I bought the Miata (which can be seen in some of the photos, as I thought it would suit me better.  I liked it just fine.   However I no longer have the Miata as it was sideswiped by a deer.  I am now in the process of buying a Porsche as I feel that will satisfy my wants/needs.

Anyone interested in shipping, I will not make the arrangements, but I will work with your shipper any way I can-just about any time, any day as I am retired (yes, even old farts like cool cars!)  The original owner was also older.

I’m quite sure I’m leaving something out.  I will try to answer any questions as honestly as possible.  If anyone wants photos from other angles, please let me know.

I know this car has a lot of years/miles left in it.

I forgot to mention, the car presently has the factory wheels and hood on it (but everything mentioned in the ad goes with it).

2016 Chevy Volt arrives with 50-mile EV range, 41 mpg [w/ video]

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Let's start with the numbers. The 2016 Chevy Volt will have an all-electric range of 50 miles from a new, 18.4-kWh lithium battery. It will get 41 miles per gallon (combined) once the battery runs dry and have 102 MPGe. Oh, and it has five seats, sort of. To compare, today's four-seat 2015 Volt has a 38-mile range from a 17.1-kWh battery in a powertrain that offers 37 mpg and 98 MPGe. So, across the board, there are notable improvements. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk story. General Motors will unveil the new Volt at the Detroit Auto Show later today, but it's been talking about how this new version – the first major plug-in hybrid vehicle to get a serious redo in the modern era – was crafted with reams and reams of data from first-gen Volt customers. At a preview event for journalists last week, GM executive chief engineer Pam Fletcher told Autoblog that these owners "gave us the recipe" to make the second-gen model. At the top of the request list was more range (check), more "fun-to-drive" behavior (check?) and a smoother and quieter experience (we'll assume a check here, given that the new 1.5-liter four-cylinder – the first North American application of this new engine family – should offer more power with less noise than the previous 1.4-liter, four-cylinder powerplant). Other customer-driven changes in the new Volt include a different place to store the charging cable (in the side of the trunk instead of under the load floor) and a new brake system with improved blended regenerative braking feel as well as driver-selectable regen levels. The requested 50-mile range comes from a new, lighter battery that has increased capacity from fewer cells (192 vs. 288) and a simplified control architecture. Along with the new battery, the electric drive unit is a two-motor deal that is up to 12 percent more efficient and 100 pounds lighter, while also being "tremendously smaller," notes Fletcher. It offers 294 pound-feet of torque and a maximum 149 horsepower of "motoring power" delivered to the wheels. GM says it has worked hard to reduced the amount of rare earth materials in these motors, and one of them doesn't use any at all. The new powertrain offers improved acceleration times, as well. The 2016 Volt can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 8.4 seconds, a seven-percent improvement, while the 0-30 mph time has been improved by 19 percent, down to 2.6 seconds. The new Volt is more conventional looking, but certainly not completely ordinary.

Cadillac CT6 production ceases January 2020 as part of D-Ham layoffs

Fri, Dec 6 2019

General Motors filed paperwork under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act with Michigan's Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity this week, detailing events to come at the automaker's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Starting February 28, 814 salaried and hourly workers at D-Ham, as its called, will be laid off. The 753 workers represented by the UAW will begin receiving offers in January to relocate to facilities in Michigan and Ohio, or buyout offers. As the 4-million-square-foot plant winds down through April 3 to a skeleton crew, the Cadillac CT6 ceases production in January 2020, and the last Chevrolet Impala comes off the line on February 28. The loss of the CT6 represents the end of Cadillac's latest brief, and highly regarded, adventure into flagship sedans. It might also mean the end of the 4.2-liter Blackwing twin-turbo V8 engine, at least for the moment. Both casualties are calamities. The death of the Impala closes the door on a nameplate in production for 52 years since 1957, having started off as a top-tier trim for the 1958 Bel Air known as the Bel Air Impala, once advertised with the line, "Lets you know you're the boss." As part of the new four-year labor agreement with the UAW, GM is keeping D-Ham open to build a new line of battery-electric vehicles, ultimately investing $3 billion and tripling employment to 2,225 workers when fully operational. The agreement described the coming EV as a "van" that would commence production in late 2021, but various reports say what's actually coming is a range of premium EVs in pickup and SUV bodystyles under the program codename BT1. The easy predictions put an electric GMC Sierra and Cadillac Escalade among the EV fold, but not until 2023, according to auto industry forecaster LMC Automotive. Before that, LMC claims an electric van will debut in late 2021, along with a battery-powered rebirth of the Hummer brand in pickup and SUV forms, also in late 2021.

Should heavy-duty pickup trucks have window stickers with fuel mileage estimates?

Sat, Sep 23 2017

If you were to stroll into your nearest Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Nissan, or Ram dealership, you'd find a bunch of pickup trucks. Most of those would have proper window stickers labeled with things like base prices, options prices, location of manufacture, and, crucially, fuel economy estimates. But you'd also run across a number of heavy-duty trucks with no such fuel mileage data from the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA doesn't require automakers to publish the valuable miles-per-gallon measurement for vehicles with gross weight ratings that exceed 8,500 pounds. That makes it difficult for consumers to compare behemoths powered by turbocharged diesel engines – between one another, and between smaller, gasoline-fueled trucks. Consumer Reports doesn't think it should be this way, and it's spearheading an effort (PDF link) to get the government to require manufacturers to publish fuel economy estimates. In its own testing, CR found that heavy-duty pickups powered by Ford's Power Stroke, GM's Duramax, and FCA's Cummins diesel engines (which doesn't include the Ram's EcoDiesel) get worse fuel mileage than their lighter-duty gas-powered siblings. We're not so sure HD-truck buyers are unaware of this fact – big diesels don't really come into their own until big loads are placed in their beds or attached to their trailer hitches. Under heavy workloads, the diesel trucks will almost certainly return greater efficiency than a similar gas-powered truck. What's more, HD trucks with lumbering diesels in general make the driver feel more confident while towing due to greater torque at low engine RPM than gas trucks. They also offer greater max-weight limits. Still, we agree EPA fuel mileage estimates should be offered for heavy-duty pickups. And we think the comparisons provided by Consumer Reports might be interesting to potential buyers. Click here to see the results of CR's tests, and let us know what you think using the poll below.
