Body Type:Coupe
Vehicle Title:Clear

(Rec'd several inquiries about
this Cam by bidders looking
at '66 Sting Ray in our other
auction so thot I'd list now
instead of grooming the car
a bit first after having recently
towed it in from AZ.)
This was originally a 6 cyl car
which now has in it a .60
over 454 w/ 12.5:1 pistons.
When I bought the car in
1998, it was stripped out
as a drag car and the engine
had been freshly put together
w/ what seems(ed) to be
brand new parts.
For instance, the carb was brand
new then but now, after 15 years, it
has an aged 'patina' to it.
I bought a wrecked '68 Camaro
in an attempt to bring
the '67 to a streetable condition.
This is why it has '68 interior
door panels and '68 tail lights.
Engine ran and pulled like
a freight train but oil press
would drop out unexpectedly.
Pulled distributor/oil pump to
trace problem to oil pan gasket.
Pieces of the 'squeeze tube'
gasket had broken off like
little worms and clogged
oil pump screen pick-up.
Anyhow, installed one piece
oil pan gasket but have
not reinstalled distributor
for 14 years. Engine
turns freely and has less
than 2 miles on it (b/c
the car couldn't legally
be driven in PA w/o
inspection). Car has been
garage kept in AZ last
9 yrs. I sprayed WD-40 in thru
plug holes and would manually
rotate every so often to ensure
rings wouldn't seize.
4 speed 'rock crusher' Muncie
shifts perfect and no noise.
3.00 open rear, no noise.
Brakes good. Stock/basic
drums all 'round. E brake
cable was removed but I
have most parts to (re)install.
Body is straight and rust free,
never hit w/ the following
(minor) clarifications:
1. Silver dollar sized area in
rocker panels at base of
hinge side of doors where
the magnet pull was weak
and you can see some body
filler.
2. 3" long 'crease' on pass side
(very slight deflection) above
quarter window where roof
begins to roll horizonal.
I tried to photograph this
but you can't really see it
unless at an angle which the
camera couldn't get.
3. Lower lip of pass side A arm is
pushed in slightly, as if the car
had pulled up too far when parking.
(To me, this is minor in the extreme
but in the interest of full disclosure
I'm mentioning it since I'm aware
of it having spent time under the car.)
Underbody and subframe is
also rust free.
All glass is good except as follows:
1. When the former owner was
welding-in the roll bar, care
was not taken to fully shield the
quarter glass behind the pass
seat so there is slight spatter
in a 3" x 5" area of tiny 'bumps'
which are hard to see but one's
hand can feel the irregularities.
2. Trailing edge of driver and pass
door glass has a +/- 1" streak/
scrape mark (from going up and
down in track?).
3. Lower left hand corner of
windshield has scratches
on the inside of the glass
approx the area of a thumb.
4. Pass side window is very
difficult to get up: the
window mechanism
operates stiffly. Down
cranking is okay.
To cover large gaps around
backlite and windshield, I cut and
fitted wood trim. There were no
clips remaining to attach factory
trim. It seemed like a good idea
at the time.
Pass side missing side mirror,
driver side mirror is junk.
Interior door panels and
those in rear seat area are crap.
Headliner is aftermarket
and, IMHO, serviceable.
Dashpad is cracked/repaired,
i.e. junk. Carpets no good.
Glove box door works fine
but latch had been broken
then repaired. Glove box liner
condition very poor.
I pulled front carpets up to
photograph floor boards.
They have a glaze of surface
dust/rust but are sound/solid/
not compromised. Rear pans
solid also.
Chrome on rear tail lights is pitted.
Front headlights are broken
bulbs (but will include halgen
fixtures to replace them).
Missing driver side '396'
fender emblem.
Gauges worked 14
years ago. Directionals didn't.
Wipers work but are not wired
to dash. Wiper motor from
1984 Dodge Diplomat.
Left front tire is like new
Uniroyal P215/70R14, RF
is same size and okay, rear skins
are grenades.
Paint job is spray cans, stripes
are stickers. I believe orig color
was white w/black interior.
Two hoods, one fiberglass,
one steel. No hood hinges
or hardware. Both hoods
have holes to accomodate
pins. Will include low
profile air cleaner and element
to clear steel hood.
Fiberglass hood is not perfect,
has some minor surface cracks
and a 3 inch area on driver side
edge that needs some filler/sanding.
Tow bar included in sale.
Tow bar needs repair.
Four steel matching chrome
wheels (pictured) are included
in auction. These are in addition
to the slotted aluminum rims
on the car. The ancient Firestone
slicks on the steel rims are no good.
Tires on the matching smaller
steel rims not included and I
will demount them before
successful bidder takes
delivery.
1968 rear bench seat and spare
driver seat included. Upholstery
on these are no good whatsoever.
Lower half of bench has been cut
to accomodate roll bar.
Driver bucket seat in car is good
cond but it was the pass seat from
'68 donor car so you have to reach
in for latch to fold forward. Pass
bucket seat in the car has patches.
No battery, no horns, no horn
button, no radio, not sure whether
blower is still there.
No ignition switch, dash mounted
starter button instead.
Radiator has leak somewhere at
bottom. I believe it is a minor
leak and can be repaired w/
a rad anti-leak additive but I
don't know this for certain. It
didn't leak when I bought the car
but did after I fabricated/
installed the fan shrouding.
Driveshaft is in tranny but not
bolted to rear. It was unbolted
and wired to the side for the
towing to/from AZ. Drag safety
breakaway loops for driveshaft
in place, front and rear. Missing
some piece(s) of these loops: they
are not complete.
One bolt on top of left rear
shock (in car body receiver
bracket) is broken in the receiver.
Top of this shock held in place by
one bolt instead of two.
Roll bar was not installed
w/ spreader plates at bottom
of bar where pipe(s) touch floor.
I removed front (diagonal)
bars since they obscured
entry to front seats.
MSD ignition, steel tubing
headers, glasspacks, traction
bars, frame stiffeners, elec fuel
pump at tank.
The only work I've done on
the lights is to get the rear
directionals to function while
being towed. The dash light
sw (to operate headlights) was
replaced w/ starter button.
I have light sw from '84 Diplomat
to wire in.
I have no idea how much of
the 'regular' wiring was abandoned/
gutted.
Heater is not piped up.
Pipe stubs are visible
at firewall.
Spare backlite, 2.68ish rear end,
steering wheel and column
from '68 donor car and fire
extinguisher included
as part of auction.
Disclaimer: I have described
what I could about the Camaro
to the best of my ability. There
is nothing about the car that I can
guarantee or warranty and I
make no claims express or
implied.
Car is for sale locally ($10K) and
I reserve right to end auction early.
Reserve set between 7000.00 and
8500.00
B & E Enterprises out of Kentucky hauled
'55 Pontiac for me from AZ to PA (2600 mi) for
$900.00 2 mos ago if you'll be freighting and
need a ballpark number.
No refunds, no trades.
Any ques, pls call (610-754-8845)
or email anytime.
My very best,
Jim C.

Foreign automakers pay from $38 to $65 per hour to non-union workers
Sun, Mar 29 2015As leaders for the United Auto Workers gather in Detroit for their Special Convention on Collective Bargaining to work out the negotiating stance for this year's new labor agreements with the Detroit 3 automakers, what they most want to do is figure out how to eliminate the two-tier wage scale. However, the lower Tier 2 wage has allowed the domestic automakers to reduce their labor costs, hire more workers, and compete better with their import competition. As it stands, per-hour labor rates including benefits are $58 at General Motors, $57 at Ford, and $48 at Fiat-Chrysler – a reflection of FCA's much greater number of Tier 2 workers. The Center for Automotive Research released a study of labor rates (including benefits) that put numbers to what the imports pay: Mercedes-Benz pays the most, at an average of $65 per hour, Volkswagen pays the least, at $38 per hour, and BMW is just a hair above that at $39 per hour. Among the Detroit competitors, Honda workers earn an average of $49 per hour, at Toyota it's $48 per hour, Nissan is $42 per hour, and Hyundai-Kia pays $41 per hour. The lower import wages are aided by their greater use of temporary workers compared to the domestics. Automotive News says the ten-dollar gap between those foreign camakers and the domestics turns out to about an extra $250 per car in labor, which adds up quickly when you're pumping out many millions of cars. That $250-per-car number is one that, come negotiating time, the Detroit 3 will want to reduce, as the UAW is trying to raise both Tier 1 and Tier 2 wages. Another wrinkle is that the domestic carmakers are considering the wide adoption of a third wage level lower than Tier 2. Some workers who do minor tasks like assembling parts trays kits and battery packs already make less than Tier 2, but the UAW will be quite wary about cementing yet another wage scale at the bottom of the system while it's trying to fight a bigger battle at the top. GM looks to combat high theft rates on SUVs with added tech
Tue, 24 Dec 2013The Cadillac Escalade has been at or near the top of most-stolen and insurance-loss lists for more than seven years, until it dropped to number six earlier this year. In 2011 it was fitted with a host of new security features to address its easy-to-override features and that has brought the number of thefts down, but when eight of the ten most stolen rides are large SUVs from General Motors, no one will argue that something else needs to be done.
Thus, GM has fitted this same theft-deterring tech to the 2015 Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon. The Suburban and Tahoe will get the steering lock that the Escalade and Yukon already get, plus bolted-down third-row seats to deter thefts like this, stronger door lock cylinders and shields, and side-cut keys to inhibit picking.
Additional security measures in a Theft Protection Package can be purchased for $395, consisting of sensors on the greenhouse glass and interior, an incline/tilt sensor and added "key control systems" to make it more difficult for the men in black balaclavas to steal what you bought.
Chevy exec confirms SS production model reveal at Daytona on Feb 16
Wed, 06 Feb 2013The 2014 Chevrolet SS will make its racing debut for the 2013 Daytona 500, but the production version of the car will get its official unveiling on February 16 in Daytona, a week before The Great American Race. According to a report by Automotive News, the reveal has been confirmed by Jim Campbell, Chevy's US vice president of performance and motorsports. With the departure of the Dodge Charger, the new Chevrolet racecar will be the only competitor to feature a V8, rear-wheel-drive layout in both street and NASCAR form.
NASCAR fans will be able to see the new fullsize performance-oriented sedan on display in the festivities leading up to the Daytona 500, but the car won't go on sale until later in the year. The Australian-built Chevy SS will be a low-volume performance model, and it will be priced above the 2014 Impala, which starts at $27,535.
