I'm selling my 1971 Chevrolet C30 Camper Special Longhorn, I bought this truck in January 2009. The intent was to restore it and use it as a pulling rig, but currently i have too many projects and this one must go. I am the third owner of this truck. The guy i bought it off of had known the truck since new, it was his friends and they used it only on weekends to go camping or towing a car to the drag strip. It sat with the bed off of it until 2009 when i bought it. I rebuilt the rear brakes, new drums, shoes, hardware kits, adjusters, springs, wheel cylinders, seals, basically everything in the rear. The motor has a rebuilt carb, rebuilt distributor, fresh points, condensor, coil, new plugs, new wires, a "new" radiator ( it was a 5 year old radiator in another truck i had scrapped) it has 4 very nice 10 ply 'E' load tires on it. I have most of the sheet metal to repair the rot shown in the pictures, cab corners, inner/outer rockers, inner/outer door skins, cab mounts, gauge package, new door handles, new rubber floor mat, extra wiper arms, cowl cover, front glass, rear sliding glass, upgraded door panels, a factory correct bench seat( freshly redone), west coast mirrors, hood hinges, extra hood, mufflers, and other extra parts that come with the truck. The bed was redone, with new rails and wood, but paint had only been applied to the inside the outside was left in primer, and the pictures speak for themselves. i do have the paint can and all the color codes written on it. I have driven this truck, but that was before i put power steering in it, its totally period correct and it is a wonderful option to have in this truck. The truck is a 350 4spd stick with 4.56's and positraction in it, it will pull whatever you like without a problem. it feels tight on the road, the brakes work amazingly, and the engine is smooth. i have only seen 2 other 8 1/2 foot bed longhorns and they were both c/20's. This is the only c/30 longhorn I've ever seen. So please any questions feel free to message me. I have other pictures too and will post them if requested.

Chevy working on production Impala Midnight Edition
Sat, Dec 13 2014To put together the Impala Blackout concept for SEMA, Chevrolet didn't need to go much further than its accessories catalog. The in-house connection is what could make it possible for Chevy to get a production version of the Blackout into dealers this model year, with its few bits of chrome trim and dark detailing on the 19-inch aluminum wheels set into an abyss of gloss black paint, black Bowtie, grille surround, rear spoiler and mirror caps. The interior is black leather, with stainless steel for the sill plates and pedals, and an 11-speaker Bose audio system, and it gets the optional 305-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6. The brand's marketing director for cars and crossovers, Steve Majoros, told Edmunds that it could come in late spring, and that it will be called "Midnight Edition." Majoros didn't give any indication of pricing or if the production car will be spec'd out like the concept. If you simply don't want to wait for late spring, you could work your DIY mojo by putting one together the same way Chevrolet did: give the accessories catalog a workout. Related Video:
GM dealers unhappy about pickup prices
Mon, 21 Oct 2013The backlash is beginning. Following General Motors' price hike of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra last week, dealers across the country are expressing their ire over increasing prices in the face of rebates and discounts on trucks from Ford and Ram.
Speaking to Automotive News, Sam Pilato, the general manager at Dimmitt Chevrolet in Clearwater, FL, Silverados are "selling very poorly." W. Carrol Smith, the president of Monument Chevrolet in the heart of truck country, Texas, said, "[GM's] position is that the vehicle stands on its own and it doesn't need a bigger rebate. That's not what the market is telling us."
According to AN, that's the general attitude amongst Chevy and GMC dealers across the country, where the twin pickups are getting butchered in sales by competitors offering up to $9,000 off their sticker prices. Part of the problem for GM is that its trucks are arriving on the market near the end of the current F-150's lifecycle, a fact that Ford has taken advantage of.
Foreign automakers pay from $38 to $65 per hour to non-union workers
Sun, Mar 29 2015As leaders for the United Auto Workers gather in Detroit for their Special Convention on Collective Bargaining to work out the negotiating stance for this year's new labor agreements with the Detroit 3 automakers, what they most want to do is figure out how to eliminate the two-tier wage scale. However, the lower Tier 2 wage has allowed the domestic automakers to reduce their labor costs, hire more workers, and compete better with their import competition. As it stands, per-hour labor rates including benefits are $58 at General Motors, $57 at Ford, and $48 at Fiat-Chrysler – a reflection of FCA's much greater number of Tier 2 workers. The Center for Automotive Research released a study of labor rates (including benefits) that put numbers to what the imports pay: Mercedes-Benz pays the most, at an average of $65 per hour, Volkswagen pays the least, at $38 per hour, and BMW is just a hair above that at $39 per hour. Among the Detroit competitors, Honda workers earn an average of $49 per hour, at Toyota it's $48 per hour, Nissan is $42 per hour, and Hyundai-Kia pays $41 per hour. The lower import wages are aided by their greater use of temporary workers compared to the domestics. Automotive News says the ten-dollar gap between those foreign camakers and the domestics turns out to about an extra $250 per car in labor, which adds up quickly when you're pumping out many millions of cars. That $250-per-car number is one that, come negotiating time, the Detroit 3 will want to reduce, as the UAW is trying to raise both Tier 1 and Tier 2 wages. Another wrinkle is that the domestic carmakers are considering the wide adoption of a third wage level lower than Tier 2. Some workers who do minor tasks like assembling parts trays kits and battery packs already make less than Tier 2, but the UAW will be quite wary about cementing yet another wage scale at the bottom of the system while it's trying to fight a bigger battle at the top.
