Auto restoration shop offers the owner’s personal 1971 Chevy K20 4x4 Pickup. We built this truck for the owner,
just test/tune miles since completion. This is a factory K20, the 4x4’s never got a big block from the factory,
we built a nice 454 for this truck, the big block conversion was done correctly. This is a rust free high desert
Oregon truck. This truck has some nice options, built to be driven and used. This truck could be proudly shown at
any car show, but was not built with than intention. We have quite a bit more money in this build than it’s
worth, shop owner has been selling off some of his vintage car collection for business expansion. This is his last
and favorite Chevy pickup. This truck is big, loud, fast and mean. Everywhere this truck has been driven gets
conversations, photo requests and thumbs up. Not many factory 4x4’s out there built to this level. I believe the
1971/2 Chevy K20 was the best pickup ever built.
MECHANICAL
We started with a 70’s Gen IV Big Block 454. Large oval port “781” casting heads, forged internals, Comp 282
hydraulic camshaft, Crane roller rockers, balanced rotating assembly. Edelbrock aluminum intake, 750 CFM Edelbrock
4 barrel carburetor electric choke, HEI (electronic) ignition. Headers are long tube for a Chevelle, best setup for
this conversion. Aluminum valve covers and air cleaner. 454 built for torque, with a bumpy cam, with incredible
low-mid range power you want in a 4x4. We never Dynoed this motor but guess it’s in the 425-450 Horse & 500+ ft
lb TQ range. We’ve seen so many times guys go too far on a BBC 4x4 build with rectangle port car heads and a huge
cam which gives only top end power you don’t want in a 4x4. We have the ignition timing set for premium pump
fuel. Dual 2 ½ in exhaust to dual 40 series Flowmaster mufflers. Power steering, large hub open knuckle disc brake
front axle, heavy duty Eaton rear axle, both original to the truck, 4.10 gears. Rebuilt TH-350 automatic
transmission with shift kit to rebuilt 205 gear driven transfer case. Part time T-Case with 2H 4H N 4L. Skyjacker
lift kit and shocks, brand new 35’s on new aluminum wheels.
We believe this to be one of the best 67-72 4x4 trucks out there, built tough to be used. This is not a 1000 point
trailer queen show car, it is a very nice excellent condition driver. Finding a solid restorable 4x4, restoring,
converting to big block would cost near double the asking price and take time to build, save money and time to buy
it done.

GM finds steering flaw, decides it doesn't warrant a recall
Tue, Apr 14 2015Guess what? General Motors is back in the spotlight for not recalling something. This time, though, not only does the company have an argument against a recall campaign, but its position is supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. According to The New York Times, over 50 owners of GM vehicles have reported instances of stuck or seized steering after driving long distances without moving the wheel. One owner complained to NHTSA that the "locked" steering of their 2013 Buick Verano caused a collision with a concrete barrier in a construction zone. Along with the 2013 to 2014 model year Verano sedans, Chevrolet Cruze and Malibu sedans are also affected. Considering the popularity of those models, GM needs to have a reason for not issuing a recall, right? "Based on a very low rate of occurrence – ranging from less than one half to less than two incidents per thousand vehicles – and the fact that the condition is remedied when the wheel is turned, GM determined this was not a safety issue," spokesman Alan Adler told The Times. The company has, however, issued a technical service bulletin for owners that complain of the problem. The fix is nothing more than a software update that is covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles from new. NHTSA cited GM's actions, along with descriptions of the problems from customers, in its decision not to issue a recall, with spokeswoman Catherine Howden saying, "the symptoms described would be a brief, perceptible change in steering feel that has little to no effect on the driver's ability to safely steer the vehicle." "When terms like 'notchy,' 'stick,' 'slip' or 'feel' are used, it does not indicate a meaningful increase in steering effort," Howden told The Times via email. What do you think? 2016 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon recalled for opening console lids
Mon, Dec 28 2015The Basics: General Motors is recalling 9,200 examples of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado with build dates between August 25, 2015 and September 24, 2015, and the 2016 GMC Canyon manufactured from August 28, 2015 to September 24, 2015. In total, 8,763 of these pickups are in the US, and the rest are in Canada or Mexico. The Problem: The console compartment lid could open in a crash, and the items inside the storage compartment might hit occupants during the accident. This fault puts the pickups out of compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The fix: Dealers will replace the console compartment door latch assembly with an improved part. If you own one: GM has not yet told NHTSA when the repairs for these pickups begin. The affected vehicles have a console compartment lid latch assembly that may fail to keep the compartment door closed in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 201, "Occupant Protection in Interior Impact." CONSEQUENCE: If the console compartment door does not remain closed in a crash, the contents stored in the console may strike the vehicle occupants, increasing their risk of injury. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the console compartment door latch assembly, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Two More Recalls Push GM Total To 4.8 Million In A Month
Mon, Mar 31 2014General Motors announced two more recalls late Friday, bringing to 4.8 million the number of cars, trucks and SUVs the automaker has called back for repairs in the past month. The string of recalls, topped by an ignition switch problem in compact cars now linked to 13 crash deaths, has embarrassed the company and sidetracked its new CEO, who started work just over two months ago. GM has admitted knowing about the switch problem a decade ago, yet it didn't recall any cars until February. The recall delay has brought two congressional investigations and probes by the Justice Department and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Late Friday night, GM announced it would recall 490,000 late-model pickup trucks and SUVs because transmission oil cooling lines weren't secured properly in their fittings. Transmission oil can leak from a fitting and hit hot surfaces, causing fires, the company said in a statement. GM said it knows of three fires and no injuries. The recall affects Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks from the 2014 model year, as well as 2015 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe SUVs and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs. All have six-speed automatic transmissions. The Silverado is GM's top-selling vehicle and an important profit center for the company. The GMC Sierra also is among GM's top sellers. Dealers will inspect the transmission oil cooling line fittings and make sure they're securely seated, at no cost to owners. Also Friday night, GM announced the recall of 172,000 Chevrolet Cruze compact cars because the right front axle shaft can fracture and separate while being driven. The recall affects cars from the 2013 and 2014 model years equipped with 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engines. If a shaft fractures, the wheels would lose power without warning and the cars would coast to a stop. GM says it has warranty reports of several dozen shaft fractures. It is not aware of any crashes or injuries. Dealers will replace the shafts free of charge. The recall allows dealers to resume selling affected Cruzes. GM issued a stop sale order on the cars Thursday night. The recall also covers about 2,500 replacement shafts used to fix manual transmission Cruzes that were recalled last September. In all, GM has recalled 4.8 million vehicles since last month, two million more than the company sold last year in the U.S.
