Great old Chevy 4x4 - Nice driver, great to restore, use it for hunting, camping, it's ready to go!

Very straight, clean and rust free K10 truck with big block power ( yes, I know they didn't build a big block K10 in '79) The 454 was installed by the previous owner when the original 350 expired at about 103k. He swapped it out of a wrecked '85 G van with about 70k miles. It was repainted about 20 years ago in the original color but it needs to be painted again - paint is dull and faded, but as you can see from the pictures, still presentable. There are some dings and scrapes, but it is really straight for a 35 year old work truck.

Engine runs well, starts right up, warms up and stays right at 210-220 even in the desert heat. Transmission is a TH350, more than enough transmission for the '85 big block. Manual transfer case works as it should - low range will pull a house off it's foundation. I added the manual locking hubs so it wasn't such a beast at slow speeds - huge difference. I had the front driveshaft and slip yoke rebuilt as well.

The interior is fair, the seat was reupholstered and looks decent. I replaced the drivers seat belt, so they both work and retract. The door panels and dash were re-dyed at some point from the original orange interior to a tan and they need to be refinished again, though they are solid and not sun damaged. It needs visors, carpet. I replaced the instrument cluster with a nice used on  - all the gauges now work and the faces are not faded. There is an aftermarket AM/FM Cassette that works...sometimes. There is just one speaker  - the originals were shot so I just wired in one to listen to the games. Heater core is by-passed. I am sure it leaks, but I never needed heat so I never looked into it.

The truck has dealer added A/C. It was working but will only hold a charge for a few weeks - there is a leak at the crimps on the compressor lines. I didn't drive it enough for it to matter to me and didn't want to put in a $50 can of R12 every time I drove it, but it will likely take $150 in hoses and another $100 in R12 to fix. It has not been converted to R134

There are many new parts on the truck that I will list below. The big block swap is done well, it's not a hack job. Most would think it came that way. It has some custom brackets for the accessories and a modified fan shroud but otherwise looks factory. All the emissions equipment is there and working. I have driven it very little - maybe 3000 miles in the past two years, mainly just to pick up something at home depot or take tree clippings to the dump. I bought it on a whim because thought it was cool and I always wanted one. Now, time to move on to something else.

  • New Brakes
  • New shocks
  • New engine and transfer case mounts
  • radiator re-cored
  • battery
  • Warn  manual locking hubs
  • oil pan and rear main seal
  • Edelbrock carburetor
  • u joints on both drive shafts and rebuilt front slip yoke
Most of these are hacked up junk or rusted out. This one is a real survivor that somehow avoided the perils of high school auto shop butchering and back yard monster truck builders. Drive it like it is or great truck to restore back to original.

Chevy exec confirms SS production model reveal at Daytona on Feb 16

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet SS will make its racing debut for the 2013 Daytona 500, but the production version of the car will get its official unveiling on February 16 in Daytona, a week before The Great American Race. According to a report by Automotive News, the reveal has been confirmed by Jim Campbell, Chevy's US vice president of performance and motorsports. With the departure of the Dodge Charger, the new Chevrolet racecar will be the only competitor to feature a V8, rear-wheel-drive layout in both street and NASCAR form.
NASCAR fans will be able to see the new fullsize performance-oriented sedan on display in the festivities leading up to the Daytona 500, but the car won't go on sale until later in the year. The Australian-built Chevy SS will be a low-volume performance model, and it will be priced above the 2014 Impala, which starts at $27,535.

GMC Canyon, Chevy Colorado diesels finally heading to dealers

Fri, Jan 1 2016

Customers who have been waiting to receive their diesel-powered Chevrolet Colorados and GMC Canyons should be relived to hear that GM will finally start to ship them out of the Wentzville Assembly Plant. "The highly anticipated 2016 GMC Canyon diesel has begun shipping to dealers," a company spokesperson confirmed to The Detroit News. The trucks originally had a fall launch date, but a final review forced a delay in deliveries. The 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel in the midsize trucks produces 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and the company touts the engine's low emissions. The Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board even put the mill through extra scrutiny with a real world test in the wake of VW's diesel scandal, and the Duramax passed with no problems. At that time, a Chevy spokesperson told Autoblog that the models' launch was on track. The Duramax engine adds $3,730 to the price of a comparable V6 model, but they're the most fuel-efficient pickups on the market. The EPA estimates the twins at 31 miles per gallon highway, 22 mpg city, and 25 mpg combined in two-wheel drive form and 29/20/23 with four-wheel drive. Buyers likely can't wait to finally experience these pickups after reading a heap of positive reviews. The Colorado diesel recently earned Motor Trend's Truck of the Year award. We also came away impressed with it during our First Drive and liked the Canyon during our Quick Spin. Related Video:

How real is the Chevy Bolt EV and will it really cost $30,000?

Tue, Jan 13 2015

"This is us bragging that we can do this kind of car." That's how Michael Simcoe, GM's executive director for NA exteriors, described the Chevy Bolt EV concept, which made a surprise appearance at the Detroit Auto Show today. While there was talk of a 2017 production debut, this is for sure a concept vehicle. But that means the ideas behind the vehicle are perhaps more important than the details. For example, no one is talking about what size battery might appear in a production Bolt, but Simcoe would talk about how rapid progress in battery improvements made it possible for GM to make the bold Bolt declaration that promises 200 miles and a price tag of around $30,000 (after incentives). But if the Bolt makes it to market, it won't be until 2017 (as rumored) or later, is it really fair to promote the car as being available with a federal tax credit? For one thing, credits for plug-in vehicles may change in the next few years, but if the laws stay the same, each manufacturer is limited to 200,000 vehicles before the credits start to decline. GM is justifiably proud that it's sold over 70,000 Volts thus far, but with a new model coming out later this year and a few years to go until the Bolt potentially arrives, GM could be pushing right up against that 200,000 limit when the Bolt goes on sale. But Volt executive chief engineer Pam Fletcher told AutoblogGreen that, "We're just trying to take some of the confusion out." "Think about talking to the average consumer," she said. "First, going through the explanation of how the federal tax credit was set up, how it's being used and so on. [In the industry, we] have the luxury of understanding the nuances of that regulation, but right now people who aren't in the marketplace, they don't have the luxury of all that. It's already hard to communicate the details so we gave them data in a way that is what they're used to seeing." There was one question that drove the two-year Bolt gestation and design period, Simcoe said: What does a better battery offer a vehicle designer? "We've got a number of spaces we play in for powertrain technology and obviously electrification is one of them," he said. "With Volt 1 and then the Spark EV, with that development and batteries getting better for us, we started doing some practical packaging to deliver a vehicle which was not the traditional aero form which you see around electric vehicles.
