1971 CHEVY K10 1/2 TON 4x4

This is a solid project that runs excellent. These chevy's are great pickups to restore and have very good resale, or are good to keep for investments. This '71 was owned by an older gentleman for a long time. Probably at least back into the 70's. He took very good care of it and it was restored once. The restoration has deteriorated over the years and it needs restored again, but is a solid start and has little rust. Here are the details on the chevy.

THERE ARE MORE PICTURES IN THE PHOTOBUCKET LINK AT THE END OF THE DESCRIPTION.

MECHANICAL

This pickup has a 454 big block V8. It runs great and sounds nice. It does not smoke at all and has no knocks or ticks. It runs cool and has great oil pressure. The carburetor may need rebuilt. It's cold blooded but really probably needs to just have some tanks of gas run through it. The engine looks stock for the most part but has an aluminum intake. I'm not sure on the year of the engine. It has good power but I'm sure a tuneup, RV cam, and headers would liven it upsome also. This has dual exhaust that sounds good and is in good shape. This truck has highway gearing, most likely 3.08's. Transmission shifts as it should with no problems or major leaks. No "dripping" leaks on the truck but has the usual old truck seepage. Transfer case is a 205 that works fine. 4x4 works as it should. All lights work. Parking brake, lighter, heater, turn signals, horn, wipers, tachometer, speedometer, etc. all work. This has power steering and power brakes with front discs. Rearend is a 12-bolt but not sure if it's a posi. The truck drives really nice down the road. Frontend feels tight and sound. Tires are older and not great. Wheels are old-school steel chrome cragars with matching spare. They might clean up with steel wool. Overall, the truck will need very little mechanically. Probably just the fluids checked/changed, but I'm sure a tune-up wouldn't hurt it.

BODY

The body is solid overall, but does have some of the usual rust issues that 71's will have. The previous owner had it painted once and the front fenders were changed I believe, and emblems on them. I'm not an expert on these trucks so maybe all 1/2 tons had c10 emblems. The whole front clip is in nice shape and has no rust. Frame has no rust. Box appears rust free but has some bubbling behind rear wheels. It is not rusted through and I think it's just related to the old paint. I tried to poke through the bubbling with an ice pick and could not. No other rust on the box. Outer rockers and cab corners look fine. Inner rockers have a little rust. The usual area. Drivers floorpan has some rust. Passenger does not have rust. One floor support on each side, has some rust which you can see in the photobucket link. Definitely still usable and solid but would need changed for a nice resto. I'm sure they're reproduced. The rest of the cab looks nice. Drivers door has some rust at the bottom that is fixable. You can see it in the pic with the door open. Passenger door is good. I've looked at many of these pickups for sale over the years and they usually have considerably more rust than this truck. The drivers side of the box has a dent behind the rear wheel area that you can see in the picture. Not major, but will require some work to straighten it out before painting. The truck was originally a mint green color. Topper is in good condition.

INTERIOR

The interior is pretty basic and simple and mostly original. Usable as-is, but would need usual restoration if your fixing it up nice. Seat springs aren't worn out and upholstery is in usable condition. Doors close as they should. Windows roll up/down. I believe everything works but not sure that the original radio does.

OVERALL

This is a great old chevy 4x4 to restore. Doesn't appear to ever have been hammered on. I bought it from the son of the older guy that had owned it for a long time. The father was there when I bought it though, and had another chevy of this vintage that he had bought new. He fixed this particular pickup up to drive instead of the other one, as I think he wanted one with an auto. Thanks for looking and feel free to ask questions.

Recharge Wrap-up: Chevy Volt CarPlay video, Tesla Supercharger importance

Fri, Feb 5 2016

A video demonstrates Apple CarPlay on the touch display in the next-generation Chevrolet Volt. The Volt's eight-inch (bigger than an iPad Mini) capacitive display is capable of putting Siri and your iPhone apps and right at your fingertips. It's "the best CarPlay display I've seen," says the user in the video. In case you're not in the market for a new Volt, 9to5Mac offers some of its favorite aftermarket CarPlay screens. See the video above, and read more at 9to5Mac. A single Supercharger can make a big difference in the life of a Tesla owner. Teslarati's Electric Jen talks about purchasing a Model S, being assured by both Tesla employees and the map of planned Supercharger sites that one would be built along an important route for her. With the construction being pushed back, it made visiting family tricky. "As if owning such a grand car isn't embarrassing enough, asking for a ride to drop off and pick up said car because you can't make it home without charging really made me feel awkward," she says. "You see, one single charging location can mean the world to some people," Jen adds. Read the whole article at Teslarati. Tesla once had considered creating mobile range extender trailers for the Model S. Elon Musk touched upon the abandoned idea during his visit to Paris. While Tesla ultimately dismissed the concept, Nomadic Power has taken the opportunity to hitch their product onto the Tesla brand. "We are delighted, that Tesla Motors' CEO Elon Musk is thinking about a concept like ours for even more extending the range of the Tesla models," says Nomadic Power's CEO Manfred Baumgaertner. He adds, "This confirms our approach to build a long distance mobility provider for all electric vehicles on the market." If you say so, Baumgaertner. When the batteries have degraded to the point that they're no longer suitable for use on the road, they still have a significant capacity that can be used for other purposes. Still useful for stationary storage, they can be used to support charging sites in order to allow for faster charging. The stationary batteries can charge slowly at the site, but then offer up the juice in a hurry when it's needed for a vehicle. Read more from Renault.

GM recalls select Chevy Cruze, Sonic and Buick Verano models over airbag issue

Wed, 14 Nov 2012

General Motors is recalling certain 2012 Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze and Sonic models due to a defect in the driver's airbag system. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the airbag has a shorting bar which may contact two internal terminals. If that happens during a crash, the supplemental restraint may not deploy, increasing the risk of driver injury. The recall includes a total of 2,949 units.
GM will contact owners and replace the steering wheel airbag coil at no cost. At this point, it's unclear when the recall will begin, though owners may contact the automaker at 1-800-521-7300 for more information. You may also take a closer look at the full NHTSA notice below.
