1941 Chevrolet Pickup, Light Duty 3/4 Ton on 2040-cars
Westphalia, Missouri, United States
Due to some unforeseen financial problems I am forced to sell
my 1941 Chevy pickup that I've been working on for some time.
In 1941 Chevrolet made two 3/4 ton trucks...the heavy duty
3/4 ton and the light duty 3/4 ton.
This is the light duty which is basically a 1/2 ton
long bed with a little heavier suspension.
This is the same wheelbase as the heavy duty but has
the 6 lug wheels and 11 inch brakes..the heavy duty had larger brakes and 8 lug
wheels. Truck has open drive shaft whereas the 1/2 ton had the enclosed Torque tube drive shaft.
This truck is very straight with hardly any rust through (
just a little in the bottoms of the doors) and about 95% complete...missing some
minor things like air cleaner, tail light, and light switch. Milage listed is what shows on speedometer but actual milage is unknown. Gauge cluster is complete and the gauges that are hooked up (oil and temp) both work...rest haven't been hooked up yet so may/may not work.
When I bought this it was pulled from a shed that was falling
down around it. (see last picture) Since then I have done quite a bit of work to it and bought
several parts for it.
Things I've done to it so far:
Seat has been reupholstered,
Brakes repaired...rebuilt master
cylinder, new wheel cylinders on all four wheels, new brake shoes front and
rear, new rubber brake hoses front and rear, two new steel brake
lines.
New exhaust pipe, muffler , and tail pipe.
New distributor cap, plugs, plug wires,
points, condenser.
Rebuilt starter.
New wiring harness (not installed, still
in the package)
New 6 volt battery. New radiator hoses. New fan belt
Engine has all new seals and gaskets
installed..(after reinstalling the engine, it is leaking oil when it
runs...I think I might have let the oil pan gasket move when I installed it but
haven't gotten around to checking it out.
Engine starts and runs good but has some blow-by and
the tappets rattle a little.
Doors open and close good, windows both roll up and
down.
Door glasses and rear window are both good...no glass in
windshield but inexpensive flat glass.
No rust in floorboard or wiper panel above
windshield.
Frame is rust free.
Overall this truck is straight and pretty much complete. Just
about everything left to do to it is cosmetic.
Entire front clip..fenders, hood, grille and lights are in
good shape.
Running boards need very little and are not rusted
out.
Bed panels are straight as is the front panel, even the
original tailgate is very restorable. Bed floor is steel.
Right rear fender needs a little welding but is better than
most I've seen.
Left rear fender needs very little work. As you can see in the pictures, I do not have the original wheels...they were not with it when I bought it. Tires are old but hold air and can be used until correct wheels & tires are installed. I have a clear Missouri title in my name.
Truck yard drives but I have not taken it out on the
street.
Clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing looked good when
I had the engine out so I didn't replace them.
All of the gears work...granny low and second have the old
truck 4-speed growl.
Look at the pictures and bid accordingly.
I'd really like to keep this truck but that isn't financially
possible right now. Truck is located in Westphalia MO 65085 (central Missouri about 15 miles southeast of Jefferson City)
Truck is sold as is with low reserve...reserve is set below
what I can part it out for and considerably less than I've already invested in
it.
Shipping is the buyers responsibility.. I can help with the
loading.
$500 down payment to be made through Paypal within 48 hours
of auction ending, balance to be paid in cash when Item is picked
up.
Truck to be picked up within one week of auction end unless
other arrangements are approved by seller prior to auction end.

Chevy Corvette gets Valet Mode with Performance Data Recorder [w/video]
Mon, 18 Aug 2014For the 2015-model-year, Chevrolet introduces Valet Mode for the Corvette, an enhancement to the Performance Data Recorder (PDR) already available and to your peace of mind. The PDR already captures 720p HD video with a windshield-mounted camera, records interior audio with a cabin microphone and gathers telemetry data using GPS, saving the data to an SD card in the glovebox. You can then watch your track-day antics with various information overlays on the center console screen.
Valet Mode will let you hit 'Replay' when your car gets pulled up front smelling vaguely of fricasseed clutch. Turned on by entering a four-digit code, it also locks the interior storage spaces and turns off the infotainment system. It can't be turned off until the code is re-entered. There's a press release below with more information as well as a video that explains how it works, with the obligatory dig at the 'Vette's biggest foe.
Recharge Wrap-up: Chevy Spark EV in Canada, Audi to use Valeo electric supercharger
Mon, Apr 13 2015The Chevrolet Spark EV will become available to retail customers in Canada. "We're expanding our electric vehicle offerings to our customers by offering the 2016 Spark EV for retail sales in the growing EV markets here in Quebec as well as in Ontario and BC," says Chevrolet's Chris Hay. Chevrolet has not yet released pricing for the Spark EV in Canada. In the US, the Spark EV is available in California, Oregon and Maryland. Read more at Hybrid Cars. Four recreational vehicle companies in Texas have settled with the EPA over illegal import and sale of off-road vehicles. The 4,000-plus Hammerhead brand vehicles in question were imported without the proper certification, a violation of the Clean Air Act. Some vehicles lacked proper emission control equipment or were manufactured by a company not listed on the certificate application. The settlement totals $560,000 in civil penalties for the companies involved. Read more from the EPA. The Iowa Supreme Court has upheld the state's natural gas tax, which was challenged by the ethanol industry. Ethanol producers, which use natural gas to make ethanol, argued the complicated tax was unconstitutional, as it forced certain plants to pay more than their competitors. Taxes vary by location, and some plants have to tap into interstate pipelines at much higher tax rates rather than get it from a local utility. Now, ethanol producers will work to change the law. "My hope is that people understand that, something may be constitutional but that doesn't make it good public policy," says Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw. Read more at Manufacturing.Net. Audi will use Valeo's electric superchargers to improve fuel economy and acceleration. Valeo says Audi will launch a vehicle using its electric supercharger next year, with other reports suggesting that car will be the Audi Q7. The company says other unspecified automakers will also use the technology in their vehicles. While the electric supercharger adds to the vehicle's cost and electric energy use, it can improve fuel economy by as much as 20 percent. Read more at Automotive News Europe. Here are a few of our automotive guilty pleasures
Tue, Jun 23 2020It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. The world is full of cars, and just about as many of them are bad as are good. It's pretty easy to pick which fall into each category after giving them a thorough walkaround and, more important, driving them. But every once in a while, an automobile straddles the line somehow between good and bad — it may be hideously overpriced and therefore a marketplace failure, it may be stupid quick in a straight line but handles like a drunken noodle, or it may have an interior that looks like it was made of a mess of injection-molded Legos. Heck, maybe all three. Yet there's something special about some bad cars that actually makes them likable. The idea for this list came to me while I was browsing classified ads for cars within a few hundred miles of my house. I ran across a few oddballs and shared them with the rest of the team in our online chat room. It turns out several of us have a few automotive guilty pleasures that we're willing to admit to. We'll call a few of 'em out here. Feel free to share some of your own in the comments below. Dodge Neon SRT4 and Caliber SRT4: The Neon was a passably good and plucky little city car when it debuted for the 1995 model year. The Caliber, which replaced the aging Neon and sought to replace its friendly marketing campaign with something more sinister, was panned from the very outset for its cheap interior furnishings, but at least offered some decent utility with its hatchback shape. What the two little front-wheel-drive Dodge models have in common are their rip-roarin' SRT variants, each powered by turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Known for their propensity to light up their front tires under hard acceleration, the duo were legitimately quick and fun to drive with a fantastic turbo whoosh that called to mind the early days of turbo technology. — Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski Chevrolet HHR SS: Chevy's HHR SS came out early in my automotive journalism career, and I have fond memories of the press launch (and having dinner with Bob Lutz) that included plenty of tire-smoking hard launches and demonstrations of the manual transmission's no-lift shift feature. The 260-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder was and still is a spunky little engine that makes the retro-inspired HHR a fun little hot rod that works quite well as a fun little daily driver.
