Great old Chevy pickup... use it as an occasional hauler / rider or do a full/partial restore for show/fun. I've owned this truck for about 6 years, put about 6 thousand miles on her... bought it from an old friend who owned it for almost 40 years, bought it from the original owner. She's all original except for the wheels, tires and replacement exhaust (which is routed as original) and, yes, the original AM radio works. When I bought it, I did and/or had quite a bit of work done to prep it for the drive from Denver to Tucson... that's right, drove it, didn't ship it. I had the front end gone over, lower ball joints, a tie rod end or two, alignment, plus water pump, hoses, tune up, wheel bearing repack, new seals, steering box adjust, valve adjust, etc. Did the brakes all around, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, a couple brake lines. Got replacement tires and wheels, a new gas tank (old one was starting to rust), a new windshield (installer took a beating on that one), battery, 'temporarily' topped the old bed boards (still haven't gotten around to permanently replacing those), transmission rebuild w/clutch, replacement exhaust all the way back, all fluids, filters, a bulb or two, etc and off we went. Drove the whole 1000 miles or so (back way, two lanes) replacing just one taillight bulb (missed that one)... great fun. Complements all along the way. Over the past 6 years, I've done things as I've had time... left front fender, all side window glass, another battery (heat here is hell on batteries), speedometer rework, carburetor rebuild, clutch slave cylinder, valve adjust, valve cover gasket, oil and filter at least every 6 months, regardless of miles. She's been garaged most of the time the past 6 years, all of the past 5. Starts every time, with appropriate choke/pump, and does whatever asked... haul grandkids on hay bails for trick-or-treating, dirt/gravel/wood occasionally, a trip to the dump once in a great while, or just a ride for the memories. Drives down the road way better than my motorhome... a little play in the steering (probably needs another steering box adjust) but goes straight down the road with no complaints/pull/wiggle/shake... just like they used to when maintained right. I have over $7000 in her without my labor... bid early and often and she could be yours for far less. I just don't have the time to do her right... hopefully you do.

She still runs fine, and doesn't burn any oil, not a bit of smoke. But, like nearly all old Chevy (and other) trucks, she leaks oil. Probably drops about 3/4 to 1 quart between oil changes, mostly while running or just after, mostly from the front main seal and some from the rear main seal. If you zoom in, you can probably see the caked-on-oil on the undercarriage beneath the engine.

Watch this time-lapse build of the Chevy SS for NASCAR
Fri, 08 Feb 2013There's only about a week left until we get our first look at the production version of the 2014 Chevrolet SS sedan, but Chevrolet NASCAR teams have been looking at the race version of the car all winter. Autoweek has posted a really neat time-lapse video showing just a portion of what it takes to build one of NASCAR's new Gen6 stock cars.
Though the video is quite brief, it does show almost the entire build process starting with just the car's nose, and it gives us a good look at how integral the template is to the final product. As a bonus, Hendrick Motorsports also provided some videos showing two of its teams performing pit stop tests over the winter. The second video shows some of the more detailed aspects of the racecar's rear end, including the stock-looking trunk cutout and a newly mandated rear bumper extension that will be used on super speedways like Daytona and Talladega.
To see what Team Chevy has been up to all off-season, check out all three videos posted after the jump.
Porsche wins the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans
Sun, Jun 14 2015The question going into this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans was whether or not the Porsche 919 Hybrid would be able to combine its qualifying pace with race reliability. After battling neck-and-neck with Audi's R18 for most of the race, the answer is a resounding yes. Not only did Porsche drivers climb the first two spots on the podium, they did so without any major mishaps on track. This win is the first overall trophy for Porsche since 1998. Audi previously won the last five races, and 13 of the last 15. Corvette also returned to the winner's circle, with the No. 64 C7.R taking winning the GTE Pro division. The victory is the first class win for Corvette since 2011. KCMG won the LMP2 class in ninth overall. With 45 minutes to go the No. 98 Aston Martin crashed out of first place in GTE Amateur, giving the class win to SMP Racing's Ferrari and second place to the Patrick Dempsey Racing Porsche 911 RSR. For the full list of official results, click here. The GTE Pro class proved to be just as exciting as the P1 class, with a four-way battle for first after four hours into the race. For most of the race, the battle at the top went back and forth between the two German manufacturers. An tire puncture in the No. 7 Audi gave up the lead to Porsche, and moments later a crash forced the No. 8 into the garage. But a three-minute replacement of the front and rear bodywork kept the Audi in contention. As the race wore into the night, Porsche maintained a slightly faster pace than Audi. Nick Tandy took the lead on Lap 253 early Sunday morning, and car No. 19 never gave up the top position. The win is the first for all three drivers of the No. 19 – Nico Hulkenberg, Earl Bamber, and Nick Tandy. A lap behind in second was the No. 17 Porsche. The Audis fought reliability problems late in the race but still finished third with the No. 7 R18. The GTE Pro class proved to be just as exciting as the P1 class, with a four-way battle for first after four hours into the race. As the Aston Martin cars dropped away, the lone Corvette Racing entry took over, followed by a charging AF Corse team Ferrari 458 Italia. The Corvette and Ferrari continued to trade places in the final hours until gearbox trouble forced the No. 51 Ferrari out of contention. It was eventually passed by the other AF Corse car, No. 71. Nissan experienced all the pain of a first-year effort with its front-wheel-drive GT-R LM Nismo.
Recharge Wrap-up: Chevy Volt's new, improved powertrain; Inabikari wants to build Tesla Model X fighter
Thu, Nov 6 2014We knew the 2016 Chevrolet Volt's new powertrain would provide more range, but we didn't know how much. According to GM's Executive Director Larry Nitz, it is about 12 percent more, overall. "I can't think of a powertrain we've re-engineered more extensively within a five-year period than this one," he said. The battery, electric drive system and gasoline generator have all been reworked to allow for an overall driving range of up to 425 miles, with electric range speculated to reach 42 miles or more. The new Volt will also benefit from 20 percent quicker low-end acceleration, weight reductions and improvements in NVH. Read more at Hybrid Cars and at the SAE website. Hyundai's FCEV research and development boss, Dr. Sae-Hoon Kim, is optimistic about the future of hydrogen mobility in Japan. With the Tucson Fuel Cell already in production ahead of Toyota's FCV, Hyundai has a foothold in the hydrogen car scene. Kim believes that since the Fukushima disaster, Japan's attitudes toward energy make it friendly to a growing hydrogen economy. He also says that hydrogen won't be limited to Hyundai, with Kia getting all the battery EVs. "Both types are for both companies," Kim says. "For the moment, volumes are small and it is not wise to have Hyundai and Kia competing." Read more at Just Auto. The Latvian/German startup Inabikari is using crowdfunding to build an electric crossover for Europe. The Rev.01 EV hopes to compete with Tesla's upcoming Model X with a range of over 400 miles and a five-second 0-60 time. The group currently is trying to raise initial funds through an Indiegogo campaign, with hopes of more investment in the future and sales beginning in 2017. See the video below, and read more at Hybrid Cars and at the Inabikari website. Fuel economy and emissions regulations could lead to some interesting design changes to automobiles. The World Light Duty Test Procedure, set to replace the New European Driving Cycle in 2017, will push automakers to find new ways to reduce drag on their vehicles. For better aerodynamics, we could see traditional side-view mirrors replaced by cameras that display what they see on screens inside the vehicle. Another likely change will be the introduction of smaller, narrower wheels. Improving the average drag coefficient from 0.32 to 0.20 could reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 20 percent.
