83' Chevy C-10 Custom W/ Built Sbc 355 on 2040-cars
Huntsville, Texas, United States
Hello,
This is my 83' Chevy C-10 that I've had for a number of years now. My reason for selling is financial. I'm starting school in the fall, and the cost, not to mention this truck being a second vehicle, has forced me to sell. I'd love to keep it because it is a very fun truck to drive, and could easily become a functional daily drive for anyone interested. With that said, the truck is currently NOT RUNNING. There is an ignition issue involving the Accel distributor that's currently in the truck, so I've ordered a new one and my father (who helps me with the maintenance) and I will be putting it in before the conclusion of this auction. I will keep this posting updated with details about the progress of that repair. Now to the fun part. This truck has a loooong list of aftermarket parts that have been incorporated. The engine was out of a 96' Chevy Silverado (Vortec, throttle body w/ Vortec cast iron heads), which we had machined. This is to include a three angle valve job on the Vortec heads. The lower end includes a Scat crank, Kieth Black pistons, Melling oil pump, and a Milodon oil pan. The entire top end was outfitted with new parts, and included a Comp hydraulic roller cam, Edelbrock Performer intake, Holly 600 CFM carb. I'd estimate that the engine has around 2,000 miles on it. When the distributor wasn't having issues, we were also having issues getting the truck to idle down properly. This could probably be resolved with some carb tuning that is beyond my scope of mechanical ability. I'll also mention the aluminum valve covers, Edelbrock aluminum air filter cover, and Holley electric fuel pump that is mounted on the frame, near the driver side door. On the exhaust side of things, the truck has headers and dual exhaust that dumps right behind the rear axle (photograph of undercarriage shows this). The mufflers were a Flowmaster replica whose name I don't remember, and I've never been aware of the brand of headers. At idle the truck has a mild exhaust note, but when it's revved it really sounds good. An aggressive sound that isn't just a bunch of noise, but not incredibly loud like some of these guys are running. The transmission is a Saginaw four speed with a Hurst 4 speed shifter. I was never able to get the linkage just perfect, but the truck functionally shifts in to each gear. The clutch and flywheel (Lakewood) is also new. In regards to the body, the paint job is not perfect. The body has dings, scratches, orange peel, poor body work in different places. I've included photographs of the majority of these issues, but I might have overlooked some. I can say that the truck is completely rust free. Wheels and tires are Chevrolet rally wheels; 15x10, FireHawk Indy 500, P295/60 R15 on the rear, 15x8 Yokohama Avid S/T P235/60 R15. The tread is not great, but acceptable all the way around. The passenger's side front tire has a slow leak. The bed of the truck I did not photograph because it needs to be cleaned out, but it is painted in primer and has all the normal wear and tear of a 30+ year old truck bed. Inside the truck are a lot of new parts as well. The carpet, seat belts are both new, and the seat has been reapholstered, which alone cost me a little over 300 dollars. Outside of this, I've reused some old interior parts. The dash is badly cracked in a few places, and I've included a picture of this. The gauge cluster and steering well don't look perfect either. All the glass on the truck is crack free from what I've noticed, and crystal clear. There are some other noteworthy, small issues like how the glove compartment doesn't have a latch, the kicker panels haven't been replaced, the hood popper hasn't been remounted. As the auction progresses I will continue listing any issues that I feel are significant, but I think the important thing for potential bidders to keep in mind is the truck is by no means perfect. I know that doesn't make me sound like much of a salesman, but I want to be upfront so I don't have any issues post-transaction. I want to be transparent about the fact that this truck will need a little TLC here and there, but paired with the right owner could be a real joy and asset to someone's life. Happy bidding. Some additional details I forgot: -I do have a brand new, chrome rear bumper (photographed), but I do not have the mounting brackets or hardware. -The truck's odometer read 30,190 miles, but I am certain it has rolled over once so 130,190 miles. -There is no factory AC in the truck, but I have an aftermarket system that came with it that will be included in the sale. -The trim around the passenger door has a few missing pieces of hardware -Chipped paint at the top of the front windshield -Buyers are responsible for pickup -Cash or cashier's check payment methods will require verification of funds Thanks! |

Chevy up to old EVs-equal-range-anxiety tricks in new Volt Olympics ad
Fri, Feb 14 2014General Motors is at it again with a new Chevrolet Volt TV commercial. Viewers of the Winter Olymics (at least in some markets) recently saw a TV ad in between the skating and the skiing that made no mention of the environmental benefits or freedom from the power of Big Oil that electric vehicles provide. No, this one was based on pure survival instinct. In the video, a father is driving down a highway, perhaps through the Mojave Desert. His young son is sitting in the Volt's backseat and asks what happens when the EV's battery runs out. "We'll have to cross that burning desert with snakes and cactus until we make it back to civilization," the dad tells his son as they pass the skeleton of a fallen bull. The fine print makes it clear that the actual maximum range is 342 miles. But there is hope. The father tells his son, with a beaming smile on his face, that the gas generator has kicked in and they're going to make it through the desert. As they wend their way to the horizon, a voice over says that Volt drivers who charge up regularly are making it 900 miles between fill ups. The fine print makes it clear that the actual official maximum range before you need to either plug in or fill up is 342 miles. This theme that emphasized range anxiety has been utilized by GM since the extended range Volt was launched in late 2010, despite the fact that Chevrolet now offers an all-electric vehicle in the Spark EV. Volt fans are praising the commercial, called The New Freedom, on the GM-Volt forum and you can see for yourself below. This content is hosted by a third party. 7 major automakers to build open EV charging network
Wed, Jul 26 2023A new joint venture established by BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis will build a new North American electric vehicle charging network on a scale designed to compete with Tesla's industry-benchmark Supercharger network. The 30,000-plus planned new chargers will accommodate both Tesla's almost-standard North American Charging System (NACS) and existing automakers' Combined Charging System (CCS) options, effectively guaranteeing compatibility with the vast majority of current and upcoming electric models — whether they're from one of the involved automakers or not. "With the generational investments in public charging being implemented on the Federal and State level, the joint venture will leverage public and private funds to accelerate the installation of high-powered charging for customers. The new charging stations will be accessible to all battery-powered electric vehicles from any automaker using Combined Charging System (CCS) or North American Charging Standard (NACS) and are expected to meet or exceed the spirit and requirements of the U.S. National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program." Critically, the automakers involved will have a say in how the charging tech is implemented, guaranteeing that the hardware will play nicely with each automaker's in-house charging systems. Hyundai and Kia, for example, were hesitant to jump on board the Tesla NACS bandwagon earlier this year over concerns that the Supercharger network is insufficient for powering the two automakers' 800-volt charging systems; similar tech is used by Volkswagen and Porsche. In addition to providing much-needed capacity and high-output charging for America's growing fleet of electric cars and trucks, the new network will integrate seamlessly with each automaker's in-app and in-vehicle features, rather than forcing customers to use third-party tools and payment systems, as is the case with some existing public charging infrastructure. "The functions and services of the network will allow for seamless integration with participating automakersÂ’ in-vehicle and in-app experiences, including reservations, intelligent route planning and navigation, payment applications, transparent energy management and more. In addition, the network will leverage Plug & Charge technology to further enhance the customer experience," the announcement said.
Pure Vision Design TT Camaro has 1,400 reasons to want it
Wed, 06 Nov 2013We've talked about Pure Vision Design before, a California-based company that made waves at last year's SEMA show with its Martini-liveried, Indy-car-powered Ford Mustang. That same car later starred in a Petrolicious video we showed you just a few weeks back. The company's latest creation is a menacing car it calls the Pure Vision Design TT Camaro. Based on a 1972 model, this car shares the Martini Mustang's clean styling and obsession with details.
Unlike the Mustang, which draws its power from a mid-60s Lotus-Ford Indycar engine, the "TT" in this Camaro's name implies something far more potent. The Nelson Racing Engines 427-cubic-inch V8 has been fitted with a pair of turbochargers, with a claimed output of 1,400 horsepower. That's almost 1,000 more than the Martini Mustang.
A six-speed Magnum transmission dispatches that power to the ground, while Pirelli PZero tires are tasked with (somehow) trying to grip the road. Baer brakes hide behind those HRE rims, while JRI coilovers and HyperTech springs bless the Camaro with some degree of competency in the bends.
