Thanks for taking a look at this auction.  This is my baby that I hoped to never be in a position where I needed to let it go but my fiance' and I have just purchased a house with a one stall garage, single parking space and we have two vehicles we drive and then there is this one which we have no space for.  Also, after all the costs involved with purchasing a home, we are in need of funds for closing costs and such.  Sorry to go on, but this is killing me because I had hoped to restore it for my boys but I guess such is life.

Anyhow, what she is: A 1969 Chevrolet C-10 Stepside with the rarer bed that has space for the spare tire on the side.  I bought this truck from a man who is a professional race car builder located in Muncie, Indiana.  He put this together for a sweet rodded up truck.  The engine block numbers are #3782870 which reads as a 327cid V8 which was originally out of a 1963 Corvette.  It's horsepower was 375 horse from the factory with a 2 barrel carb and the 4 barrel version was rated at almost 400 hp.  This one does have the two barrel and it also has a Flamethrower Distributer.  He paired the motor with a short track race car transmission which is a Saginaw 4 on the floor and it has a Hurst Shift Kit.  Bringing up the rear is a Chevrolet Limited Slip Posi 12 Bolt rear end which I believe to have somewhere around a 373 - 411 gear since it's pushing 3000rpm's at 60mph.  The engine also is equipped with what I believe to be true Hooker Headers, but the brand cannot be confirmed.  As the final piece to the drivetrain, the man that built this wanted it to have a deep throaty sound so he installed a special exhaust system which I had never heard of but I looked it up on the net and the system he installed costs about $800 just for the kit that you have to install.  It is actually designed for a diesel engine truck.  The brand is Silverline, and I took a pic of the exhaust tips so you could see that.

This truck is a runner.  I drove it home from Chicago to my home which was about a 3hr drive and it performed great.  Even the headlights, tail lights, side markers, and dash lights work including a lit custom tach.  The bed is solid, so is the frame however if you are going to restore it right, you are going to need a new cab.  The floor, rockers, cab corners and inside all along the top of the windshield is rusted something terrible.  But when I looked for a cab on craigslist, I actually found several from $175 to $350 for a whole cab.  It will come with an extra pair of doors and front fenders as well as an extra pair of tires and a passenger side inner front fender.  It's power steering but manual brakes.  No stereo but the dash hasn't been molested and its uncut ready for a stock replacement.  As far as wiring, the truck is fine except the blower motor which is on a toggle switch.  The front seat is in great shape with no rips and if I remember correctly it has a newer fuel tank behind the seat.  Right now it just needs a battery and it is ready to go down the road.  However, upon a successful auction I will take part of the money I get for the $500 I would require within 24hrs to purchase a new battery so it will be ready to go.  I just put a brand new speedo cable on it last year.  I also will be including an authentic set of front and rear 1969 Michigan Licence plates which if you register and title her in Michigan, it will only cost you $30 for the rest of your life with no renewal fees.

There is quite a bit of money invested but I am realistic and I know I'll never get back what I have into it.  My reserve is set at the bare minimum that I can bear to take and I will say it is very reasonable keeping in mind the drivetrain alone.

Upon winning, like I said I would like to have a $500 down payment within 24 hours.  I will then buy a battery and it is a runner so I would be even willing to drive to meet you to drop it off but I can only go 75 miles from my location which is Holton, Mi 49425.  However, if you are from a distant state and are going to need it shipped, I will work with any shipping company that you employ but you will be responsible for setting it up and paying for it.  If my reserve is not met, I will contact the highest bidder and let them have a chance to make me an offer.  If it is a reasonable offer and I accept it, I will relist it with the offer as a buy it now price so they may then confirm the purchase as I will not do anything against ebay rules buy trying to sell it outside of ebay.  I did take a video of the truck starting and running.  As I came around back, there was a little black smoke coming from the right bank.  I set the camera down and filed both pipes as I cracked the throttle.  Upon reviewing the video, I saw smoke coming out of both pipes.  This appeared to me to be unburnt fuel because I have never done a tuneup nor have I ever adjusted the carburetor and I think its running rich.  Lastly I would suggest adjusting the valve train.  A few months ago I thought I did a good job because I got all the clack out of the rockers but every now and then it will tick for just a second.  Here is the video:

Thank you again for taking the time to consider this diamond in the rough.  If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message.  Good luck and Happy Bidding!

Weekly Recap: Autonomous driving goes commercial in Nevada

Sat, May 9 2015

Nevada granted Daimler Trucks North America the first license to run an autonomous commercial vehicle on public roads in the United States Tuesday, marking another milestone in the technology's rapid advancement. Gov. Brian Sandoval and Daimler truck chief Wolfgang Bernhard promptly used the license to lap Highway 15 near Las Vegas in a newly revealed Freightliner Inspiration Truck. It was a clear signal that autonomous driving is big-rig reality, though it's still a long way from widespread use. Nevada certified two of Daimler's Freightliner Inspiration Trucks, which use the company's Highway Pilot system with a stereo camera, radar, and lane-keeping collision-prevention features to regulate the brakes and steering. The radar component has a long-range sensor that can cover 820 feet at an 18-degree angle and a shorter-range unit that stretches 230 feet at a 130-degree angle. The Inspiration trucks are based on the existing Freightliner Cascadia Evolution model used on US roads. In addition to the autonomous technologies, it also has futuristic design cues, including blue lighting in the front and a new hood and grille. While there are only two Freightliner Inspiration trucks in existence, Daimler expects to bring the Highway Pilot system into mass-produced big rigs by 2025, in time to capitalize on the market's predicted growth. The German truckmaker predicts the global hauling market will triple by 2050, and the United States will be a key part of that growth. Trucks carry 69.1 percent the nation's domestic freight tonnage and hauled 9.7 billion tons of freight in 2013, according to the American Trucking Association. Daimler expects autonomous driving to augment this growth, and perhaps evolve the role of the truck driver. Still, the company points out autonomous tech is not meant to replace drivers, but to assist them and relieve fatigue and monotony on long hauls. The driver has to stay in control for passing, in city traffic, and when hooking up the trailer. The company said autonomous driving also offers the potential for improved fuel economy – tests showed a five-percent gain – and lower maintenance costs. Daimler also said the technology could reduce congestion on the road. Much of this is attributable to the constant flow of traffic, which is aided by autonomous driving. While the benefits are becoming increasingly apparent, autonomous technology is still met with skepticism.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.

Stolen '57 Chevy Returned To Owner After 30 Years

Fri, Feb 21 2014

Three decades after it was stolen, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air has been returned to a Northern California man - in better shape than when he originally owned it. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports Ian "Skip" Wilson was shocked to get a call from the California Highway Patrol informing him that his long-lost Chevy was taken off an Australia-bound cargo ship. The 65-year-old says the car has had a lot of work done on it since it disappeared from his Lake County home in 1984. It was returned with a monogrammed interior, 17-inch racing wheels, rack-and-pinion steering and a 350-horsepower V-8 engine. The retired mechanic says the two-door was in sorry shape when he bought it for $375 in 1975 with plans for fixing it up.
