Up for Auction is my 1977 CHEVROLET C10, REGULAR CAB PICKUP, SHOW TRUCK SILVERADO, FLEETSIDE.  This truck is strictly a complete body off modified show truck.  Must sell due to illness.  The truck has the Big Block 454 which was completely rebuilt January 15,1997 with a ISKY RV camshaft.  It has power steering, power brakes,  power door locks, air conditioning, Pioneer AM/FM with Cassette Player, and bucket seats.  All exterior and interior lights work.  The Turbo 400 automatic transmission was rebuilt in November 1996.  On October 28, 2000 before painting the body was repaired and smoothed for all dents, etc. before painting and then the undercarriage was completely sand blasted and painted.  On January 26 2001 the body was completely sand blasted and painted.  The mileage at the start time of restoration was 28,126 (the speedo is a 1975 model and rebuilt on June 1, 2007).  This truck has been used strictly for Car Shows with approximately 438 miles on motor, not quite broken in yet.  In my short period of ownership (DEC 2012), I have checked all fluid levels and topped off (current miles 28,564), had four wheels balanced, front end alignment, oil and filter change, lubed front end and serviced the 12 bolt differential. In addition of the above, I installed new AC Delco Rapidfire Spark plugs, spark plug wires, AC Delco PCV valve, AC Delco Fuel Filter, AC Delco Distributor Cap, and AC Delco Distributor Rotor. I have all Receipts for the Restoration dating back to June 1999.

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?

Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.
