This is a 3 owner truck, it was on non op when I bought it and I wasn t going to register it but I had it a little longer than I had originally planned, so I am the 3rd owner (but i wouldn t consider myself one, Ive had it for 3 months).  The 2nd owner bought this truck in the 90s from the old couple that had purchased it new.  The 2nd owner added a few upgrades to the truck, swapped door panels, seat, added factory tach, factory tilt, 5 lug all around with disc in front.  He claimed that the original bezel had 8x,xxx miles on it when he switched it out with the tach bezel.  When it came time for 2nd owners son to drive he pulled the big block out of the truck and built him a 350, with that being said he wrapped up the big block and stored it away.  His son wanted nothing to do with the truck.  When I heard there was somebody locally that had been threatening to sell his big block truck because his son wanted something else, I made contact with him and made arrangments to see it.  So I bought this truck with the 350 in it and the original big block came along with it.

We tore the 400 apart and started cleaning it and checking it out to see how it looked.  The rings, bearings, crank and heads were all in good shape, the engine was very sanitary, which was fantastic.  We bought new parts and started putting it back together, listed below.

The truck is in very original condition but has NO SERIOUS RUST, the rockers and corners are super solid on this truck.  The body has minor dings here and there, there are no MAJOR dents anywhere, the front passenger fender is primered, rest of the paint is faded and scratched up but has that "cool original look", wood bed is shot.  The seat and carpet were installed brand new by 2nd owner but dont show new due to sun fading, but in person you can tell they have barely been used.  As far as weather stripping goes its in tact but old, window felt is there but old.  Truck runs good, lots of power, tranny shifts great, this truck drives and rides very solid and tight (as far as steering, suspension and braking), it has some of the normal rattles due to old window felts.  Headliner is in very good condition, chrome trim isnt chrome anymore due to fading (not pictured).

5 reasons why GM is cutting jobs, closing plants in a healthy economy

Tue, Nov 27 2018

DETROIT — Even though unemployment is low, the economy is growing and U.S. auto sales are near historic highs, General Motors is cutting thousands of jobs in a major restructuring aimed at generating cash to spend on innovation. It's the new reality for automakers that are faced with the present cost of designing gas-powered cars and trucks that appeal to buyers now while at the same time preparing for a future world of electric and autonomous vehicles. GM announced Monday that it will cut as many as 14,000 workers in North America and put five plants up for possible closure as it abandons many of its car models and restructures to focus more on autonomous and electric vehicles. The reductions could amount to as much as 8 percent of GM's global workforce of 180,000 employees. The cuts mark GM's first major downsizing since shedding thousands of jobs in the Great Recession. The company also said it will stop operating two additional factories outside North America by the end of next year. The move to make GM get leaner before the next downturn likely will be followed by Ford Motor Co., which also has struggled to keep one foot in the present and another in an ambiguous future of new mobility. Ford has been slower to react, but says it will lay off an unspecified number of white-collar workers as it exits much of the car market in favor of trucks and SUVs, some of them powered by batteries. Here's a rundown of the reasons behind the cuts: Coding, not combustion CEO Mary Barra said as cars and trucks become more complex, GM will need more computer coders but fewer engineers who work on internal combustion engines. "The vehicle has become much more software-oriented" with millions of lines of code, she said. "We still need many technical resources in the company." Shedding sedans The restructuring also reflects changing North American auto markets as manufacturers continue to shift away from cars toward SUVs and trucks. In October, almost 65 percent of new vehicles sold in the U.S. were trucks or SUVs. That figure was about 50 percent cars just five years ago. GM is shedding cars largely because it doesn't make money on them, Citi analyst Itay Michaeli wrote in a note to investors. "We estimate sedans operate at a significant loss, hence the need for classic restructuring," he wrote. The reduction includes about 8,000 white-collar employees, or 15 percent of GM's North American white-collar workforce. Some will take buyouts while others will be laid off.

Chevy Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo concept blends the past and the future

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

The Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo is the rare concept car that salutes a seminal moment in history, yet also borders on science fiction.
Revealed Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the concept uses the name of one of Chevy's historic racing partnerships, with Chaparral Racing, which dates to the 1960s. Chaparrals raced successfully at a range of levels, including IndyCar, Trans-Am and SCCA competition.
But the history ends there, as the concept's main purpose is as a racecar in a downloadable update for the PlayStation 3 game Gran Turismo 6.

Burt Reynolds' vehicles up for auction at Barrett-Jackson

Tue, Sep 25 2018

Burt Reynolds' influence on car culture cannot be overstated. Be it "Smokey and the Bandit" or "Cannonball Run," his films inspired a generation of car enthusiasts. He died a few weeks back from cardiac arrest at age 82. This weekend, four vehicles from Reynolds' personal collection — three Pontiacs and a Chevy — will go up for auction at Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas. It seems Reynolds had plans to sell the cars before he passed. He even filmed a short teaser for the auction and planned to attend the event himself. Three of the cars are Pontiac Trans Ams. Two are re-creations of the cars he drove in "Bandit" and the film "Hooper." Both are 1978 models. The third Trans Am is from 1984 and was used to promote Reynolds' USFL team, the Tampa Bay Bandits. The fourth vehicle is a 1978 Chevy R30 pickup truck. It's styled like the truck he drove in "Cannonball Run." None of the vehicles were actually used in the movies. But they were registered in his name, making them far more legitimate than some other movie-inspired clones. It's unclear how many Bandit Trans Ams Reynolds has owned over the years. Another car connected to him sold for $450,000 back in 2014. His death is sure to drive the price of these new cars even higher.
