Up for auction is my 1968 Chevrolet C-10 stepside short bed. This truck was correctly restored at one time. I would guess 20 years ago. At some point it had some of the body parts repainted. Although the paint color matches it has some orange peel and a little duller. There is some body filler on some panels, I don't know why but there isn't any rust behind it. I bought this truck the way you see it here, concentrated on the mechanical not the appearance and drove the heck out of it. With that said here is a detailed description.
Body:
The body is in great shape overall but does have some body filler. I don't know if it's from the original restoration or more recent. At some point the front clip was removed and when it was reinstalled not a lot of care was given to panel alignment. So some of the gaps are off. When the partial repaint was done they didn't wet sand or buff it out so there is orange peel next to smooth and glossy paint. There are stone chips and paint pealing off here and there also. The only rust is typical for these trucks, below the battery tray on the inner fender and the forward cab supports as seen in pic. I have new-in-box cab supports that will go with this truck. That is the only rust anywhere on this truck! The rockers may have been replaced. There is a row of rivets inside the cab along the top of the rockers and I'm not sure why. They are welded everywhere else.
The windshield is cracked with a few large stone chips. It is all on the passenger side on not in line of sight.
The box is in great shape overall. The wood is weathered but not rotted out. Since the original gas tank leaked I removed it and installed a RCI aluminum fuel cell in the bed.
Interior:
The seat is in great shape having been recovered at some point. The dash radio hole has been enlarged at some point even though there is no radio installed. All the switches work like they should but the heater only blows on high. When I bought the truck therre was a hand fabbed gauge cluster panel which I though looked tacky so I replaced it with the carbon fiber look one in the pics. Speedo and tach are Autometer and the rest of the gauges are Shark. It did have Shark speedo and tach when I bought it but the speedo was wildly inaccurate. That is the reason for the change. I do have the original gauge cluster that will be included. The original odometer shows 54xxx miles. The Shark speedo shows 17xx miles and the current speedo shows just over 400 miles.
There is currently no carpet, sill guards or kick panels intalled. I have all new rubber floor cover, sill plates and kick panels that will be included.
Powertrain:
The engine is a Chev 350, runs great and doesn't burn oil. It does however have the typical two piece rear main seal leak, it's not bad but does leak. The original stamped steel valve covers leaked badly. I replaced them with some fabricated aluminum and good gaskets which helped. The drivers side valve cover still seeps a little. The motor has a Weiand dual plane manifold with a Holley Street Avenger carb and HEI distributor. Also, headers and dual exhaust.
The transmission is a TH350 and was just installed before I bought the truck. It shifts fast and firm.
I also installed a 4 core all welded aluminum radiator along with a large 1 ton external trans cooler. It does not overheat no matter how hot it is outside!
Rearend is the truck 12 bolt with open differential. The drivetrain is bullet proof!
Electrical:
Lights, turnsignals, windshield wipers and heater all work. Wiring has much to be desired. It is safe and operable but honestly looks like crap.
Suspension and brakes:
When I got the truck the original springs where heated and allowed to sag to lower it. I removed all the original suspension and replaced with 2 inch drop spindles and 2 inch drop springs for a total of 4 inches in the front. Also converted the front brakes to disc with drilled and slotted rotors. It stops better than any new car or truck!!! The rear springs were replaced with 5 inch drop springs. Also replaced track bar bushings and ball joints.
Overall this is a nice driver. It runs great, has plenty of power and get looks no matter where you take it. I would drive it anywhere. The reason I'm selling is I need the space and I really don't drive this truck as much as it deserves to be driven.
There is no warranty implied or otherwise, what you see is what you get! I will required a $500 non-refundable deposit at the close of the auction. If you're serious about owning this truck you won't have any problem with that.

Veyron and C7 Corvette join cast of Transformers 4
Wed, 29 May 2013Like the Fast & Furious franchise, the Michael Bay-directed series of Transformers movies has become known as much for its bad acting as its impressive lineup of cars. As filming just started for Transformers 4, Bay's website has confirmed two new cars for the next installment as well as a makeover for everyone's favorite tractor trailer hero, Optimus Prime.
Joining the cast of T4 are a "race-inspired" Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. While Bay's website did not supply names for either car, Bugatti is reporting on its Facebook page that the Veyron will join the Autobots. Speaking of the good guys, top Autobot Optimus Prime is getting an all-new body based on a Western Star with a gaudy appearance that was seemingly inspired by Trick My Truck - right down to the six smoke stacks and side pipes!
Chevy teases next-gen Volt at fan event in LA
Thu, Nov 20 2014Barely two months before its planned debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, Chevrolet has released yet another batch of teaser images of its second-generation Volt. Unlike the first image, though, which just showed the car's rear badge, there's a lot more to this quartet of shots. The first three images show off the nose of the next-gen model and come from a fan event in Los Angeles. What we can see is a sleeker front end, with an evolution of the silver grille inserts previously seen on the original Volt and Spark EV. Gone is the current car's split upper grille, in favor of a more conventional arrangement. The sharper, more angular headlights are also an evolution of the lamps seen on the current Volt. Chevrolet also took the opportunity to announce a new location-based charging system that uses GPS to adjust the vehicle's charge settings, including the charge level, while also announcing that the next-gen car will feature more intuitive charge indicators that will be better able to inform owners of their car's charging level. The tech will mean that the Volt 'knows' when it is parked at home, and can thus automatically optimize charging for off-peak times, and so on. Take a look at the teaser images at the top of the page, and then head below for Chevy's press release announcing the new features. Next-Gen Chevy Volt Offers More User-Friendly Charging 2014-11-20 GPS makes charging more convenient Portable charger is easier to access Intuitive visual cues show charge status DETROIT – If there's one thing Chevrolet Volt owners love about their cars, it's being able to recharge the battery easily. Evidence of that is a U.S. Department of Energy study that shows more than 80 percent of all trips by Volt owners did not use the range extender. Chevrolet has made the charging system in the next-generation Volt even easier for customers to recharge the battery – and to check the charge status. The next-generation Volt debuts in January at the North American International Auto Show. "Chevrolet used the real-world experiences of today's Volt owners to make the charging process simpler and more convenient in the next-generation Volt," said Andrew Farah, chief engineer for the Volt.
Junkyard Gem: 1986 Chevrolet Sprint Plus
Fri, Jun 16 2023General Motors sold second- and third-generation Suzuki Cultuses with Geo or Chevrolet Metro badging in the United States from 1989 through 2001 model years, and we've all seen plenty of those cars on the street over the years. The first-generation Cultus was sold here as well, with Chevrolet Sprint badges, and I've found a rare example of the Sprint five-door hatchback in a Northern California car graveyard. The Chevy Sprint first appeared on the West Coast as a 1985 model, then became available everywhere in the United States for the 1986 through 1988 model years (in Canada, it was sold as the Pontiac Firefly). It was available here as a hatchback with three or five doors; for 1986 only, the five-door was badged as the Sprint Plus. Soon enough, The General would be selling many more Asian-built cars with Detroit badges here. Isuzu I-Marks were sold as Chevrolet/Geo Spectrums starting in the 1986 model year, while Daewoo provided the Pontiac LeMans two years later. Under the hood, a 1.0-liter three-cylinder rated at 48 horsepower. The five-door Sprint cost $5,580 in 1986, which was $200 more than the three-door (those prices would be $15,445 and $14,891 in 2023 dollars). I've documented seven discarded Sprints prior to this one (including an extremely rare Turbo Sprint), and all of them were three-doors; we can assume that price was the most important factor for Sprint buyers. Gasoline prices were crashing hard during the middle 1980s, but memories of gas lines and odd-even-day fuel rationing from 1979 remained strong. What cars competed with the '86 Sprint on sticker price? Well, there was no way to undercut the hilariously affordable (and terrible) Yugo GV, which cost $3,990. The much bigger (but still pretty bad) Hyundai Excel listed at $4,995, while Toyota would sell you a sturdy (but zero-fun) Tercel starting at $5,448. Even the wretched Chevy Chevette — yes, it was still available in 1986 — cost $5,645. The original buyer of this car was willing to shell out an extra $395 to get an automatic instead of the base five-speed manual. That's about $1,093 in today's money. This car must have been slow. By the end, the doors were held shut with duct tape, but it still stayed alive until age 37. 53 miles per gallon on the highway! It does everything. The camels of the highway.
