I purchased this truck about 3 years ago as a project.  I went completely through the truck mechanically.  When I bought it, the previous owner had installed a new radiator, clutch set, and starter.  I took it one step further and installed new rear brake shoes, Thrush glass pack mufflers, front and rear shocks,  rear bearings and seals, u-joints and carrier bearing, water pump, distributor, heads, camshaft, and Edelbrock 600 electric choke carb.  The heads are PBM / Dart brand street heads with 2.02 / 1.60 stainless valves and 67 cc chambers.  The camshaft is a mild street grind with a good lope.  I don't know how many miles are on the 350 that is in the truck.  It is standard bore, but does not smoke or make any noises.  The truck is super dependable and always starts no matter how cold it is outside.  The truck has the original SM420 granny low 4 speed transmission.  3:08 gears were installed for better highway driving.

As far as the body goes, when I purchased the truck it had new front fenders.  The truck is painted blitz black, with hugger orange wheels and beige bumpers.  The bumpers aren't perfect and the front is tweeked a little on the passenger side.  I am not a body and paint man, so the the bed sides, tail gate, back of the cab, and  hood have some minor dents and waves.  The bed is the worst part of the truck.  I tried showing a picture of the worst bubble on the bed.    It had some pin holes that I repaired when I painted the truck but they are bubbling up in some places.   There are some small places of rust through on the bed floor.  I herculined the inside of the bed and bed floor.   As far as the cab goes, I intalled new partial floors, inner and outer rockers, cab mounts and cab supports.  On the passenger side door is rubbing on the rocker panel.  I tried showing a picture of it.  BTW, I completely rebuilt the door hinges with new pins and bushings.    The truck is super solid.  The cab corners were patched but are super solid.  I completely painted the frame and suspension of the truck.  The truck has been lowered with cut springs in the front and lowering springs and blocks in the rear.   I installed new weather stripping around the doors and new chrome sill plates. A new chrome Grant steering wheel along with a chrome bullet horn button was installed. All lights and turn signals work good.

The interior has a completely reupolstered seat with grey tweed and black vinyl.  New carpet, chrome steering wheel was installed as well as a new dash pad.  The truck is radio delete. The emergency brakes do not work.  One of the levers on the heater controls is broke off but you can still get a grip on it.  The heater works but the blower motor only works on high.  the front windshield is frosty around the outside edge.  All the other glass is good but does have some scratches from years of use.

There are some things that I forgot to list last night when I posted the add.  The truck has manual drum brakes all the way around.  They don't stop like disc brakes but they work great and the truck stops nice and straight.  The tires have like new tread on them.  They are BF Goodrich TA's 255/70/15.  Mechanically the truck is excellent and super dependable.  I would not hesitate to hop in the truck and drive it anywhere.  It may cost you a small fortune in gas but it will get you there.  The steering is nice and tight and the steering wheel is good and centered.  The truck does not leak from anywhere that I can find.  It will not leave spots of oil all over the driveway.  One bad thing.  The Speedo is slow.  I'm not sure how slow it is but I'm guessing it is between 10 - 20 mph slower than the speed the truck is actually driving.

A couple of things I wanted to point out is the fact that this truck does not have alot of the normal rust that you find in these trucks.  There is no rust or bubbling over the windshield like so many I see.  Under the dash and around the cowl vents are nice and solid.

When I built the truck, I was going to faux patina the trucks, so along all the edges, I painted the truck the same orange color as the wheels to match.  I was going to sand the edges to show some of the orange paint through.  I liked the way it looked so I never did it but it is an option.  I like the patina look so that was my original plan.

I really hate selling the truck, but I have two other trucks of that generation and not enough room so one has to go.  Anyway it is a nice truck and it has been well cared for while I have owned it.

I remembered a couple more things that I thought of.  The windows have brand new window regulators so the windows roll up and down nice and smooth.  I'm also a big fan of chrome bullets so they are here and there.  There are chrome bullets covering the wiper arm posts. I never drove the truck in the rain, so I never needed wipers.  I have wiper arms, so if the purchaser would like to run wipers he is welcome to them.   The lug nuts are nice chrome bullets style along with the license plate bolts.

The trailing arms on the truck are as solid as I have ever seen.   There is none of the typical rust through or separation you see on the trailing arms of most of these trucks.

GM dealers unhappy about pickup prices

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

The backlash is beginning. Following General Motors' price hike of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra last week, dealers across the country are expressing their ire over increasing prices in the face of rebates and discounts on trucks from Ford and Ram.
Speaking to Automotive News, Sam Pilato, the general manager at Dimmitt Chevrolet in Clearwater, FL, Silverados are "selling very poorly." W. Carrol Smith, the president of Monument Chevrolet in the heart of truck country, Texas, said, "[GM's] position is that the vehicle stands on its own and it doesn't need a bigger rebate. That's not what the market is telling us."
According to AN, that's the general attitude amongst Chevy and GMC dealers across the country, where the twin pickups are getting butchered in sales by competitors offering up to $9,000 off their sticker prices. Part of the problem for GM is that its trucks are arriving on the market near the end of the current F-150's lifecycle, a fact that Ford has taken advantage of.

Chevy up to old EVs-equal-range-anxiety tricks in new Volt Olympics ad

Fri, Feb 14 2014

General Motors is at it again with a new Chevrolet Volt TV commercial. Viewers of the Winter Olymics (at least in some markets) recently saw a TV ad in between the skating and the skiing that made no mention of the environmental benefits or freedom from the power of Big Oil that electric vehicles provide. No, this one was based on pure survival instinct. In the video, a father is driving down a highway, perhaps through the Mojave Desert. His young son is sitting in the Volt's backseat and asks what happens when the EV's battery runs out. "We'll have to cross that burning desert with snakes and cactus until we make it back to civilization," the dad tells his son as they pass the skeleton of a fallen bull. The fine print makes it clear that the actual maximum range is 342 miles. But there is hope. The father tells his son, with a beaming smile on his face, that the gas generator has kicked in and they're going to make it through the desert. As they wend their way to the horizon, a voice over says that Volt drivers who charge up regularly are making it 900 miles between fill ups. The fine print makes it clear that the actual official maximum range before you need to either plug in or fill up is 342 miles. This theme that emphasized range anxiety has been utilized by GM since the extended range Volt was launched in late 2010, despite the fact that Chevrolet now offers an all-electric vehicle in the Spark EV. Volt fans are praising the commercial, called The New Freedom, on the GM-Volt forum and you can see for yourself below. This content is hosted by a third party. GM cutting production at two plants

Thu, Feb 26 2015

General Motors is continuing to adjust to excess supply of some of its brands' models. To get production more in line with the vehicles' actual demand, the automotive giant is idling two of its factories in North America in the coming months. The Orion Assembly plant is going to be down from March 9-13, according to an anonymous plant worker and another insider speaking to Automotive News. The factory builds the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano, but there are plenty of both models sitting on dealer lots, including 216 days worth of Sonics, according to AN. The factory already had two idle periods announced to reduce the excess. In addition, downtime is scheduled at GM's "Flex" line at the Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, plant from April 13-17. This affects supply of the Chevrolet Camaro, Impala, Buick Regal and Cadillac XTS. Among them, the automotive giant has the largest supply of Regals ready for dealers with 213 days worth of them, according to AN. The future for the whole Oshawa factory is cloudy in general, though. There are rumors that it could close entirely in the future because the Camaro is leaving and the Regal and XTS might not last much longer than 2017. The Canadian government and the labor union there intend to put up a fight, though.
