Blazer Chalet Camper On 1985 Chevy Blazer Cucv Diesel on 2040-cars
Oregon, Wisconsin, United States
Friends,
This is the nicest vehicle I've ever owned. Unfortunately, it's not so practical for toting around kids in car seats, so it's time for me to send it on to its next happy owner. I bought the Chalet camper shell on it's original factory chassis about four years ago. That chassis was tired, so about 2 years ago I bought the current chassis, a former Air Force CUCV. The CUCV had been upgraded with power leather seats, a CD stereo, new carpet, headliner and dash pad by its previous owner. I swapped the camper on and have been using it as my daily driver ever since. As an ASE master tech, I like to keep my stuff nice. In the time that I've owned the chassis, the following work has been performed: New master cylinder New front brake pads New rear shocks New steering stabilizer Four new balljoints New steering knuckle greaseable universal joints, seals, wheel bearings repacked New rear driveshaft greaseable universal joints New power steering return line New engine oil cooler lines New radiator New thermostat New mufflers and tailpipes New dual group 31 batteries New alternator New Belts New Optima deep cycle camper battery New glow plugs New glow plug relay Transmission overhauled by professional trans rebuilder New flexplate New Trailer hitch and pigtail New Potable water pump in the camper Probably more that I'm not able to think of. Receipts available upon request. Additionally, I've added a small inverter to run the installed television and a large inverter to run the APU air conditioning and electric heat (10,000 BTU A/C, 14,000 BTU Heat). The heat and A/C can also run off of shoreline power when it is available, so there is no need to run the engine to air condition the camper. This inverter acts as a charger for the starting batteries when plugged into the shoreline. The Chalet has a built in charger for the deep cycle battery. Because I live in the frozen tundra, I've also added battery heaters, an engine oil heater and an engine coolant heater. The truck also comes with a custom fabricated cold weather grill cover and a warm weather bug screen. The truck includes a Margaritaville tailgating grill, which was gutless from the factory, so I've upgraded it with a variable pressure propane regulator that can make it roar like a jet engine when you really need to cook. Because this chassis is near mint I've also applied POR 15 to the bottom of the truck to prevent rusting. In short, I really hate to see this one go, but it's not practical for me any more. As always, my walk away guarantee applies - if you win the auction and the vehicle is not exactly as I've described it, you walk away - no questions asked. Please feel free to call me with any questions. Randy (608) 209-7706 |

IIHS gives good ratings to 4 of 8 midsize pickups in crash test
Wed, Sep 6 2017Versions of the Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon Crew Cab earned top ratings in a new crash test of midsize pickup trucks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, while two versions of the Nissan Frontier earned marginal ratings. But the organization gave poor marks to all eight pickups tested for their dim headlights. Overall, four of the eight pickups evaluated earned good ratings for protecting occupants in all five crash test categories — the Tacoma double cab along with crew cab versions of the Colorado, Canyon and Tacoma. But the poor headlights and lack of an automatic emergency braking system blocked any of the pickups from qualifying for the IIHS's Top Safety Pick awards. The study looked at two pickup body styles using 2017 models: crew cabs, which have four full doors and two full rows of seating, and extended cabs, which have two full front doors, two smaller rear doors and compact second-row seats. It subjected each to five tests, and it evaluated the performance of front crash prevention systems and headlights. The Toyota Tacoma crew cab was the only pickup in that class that earned a good rating for structure in the small overlap test, which replicates what happens when a vehicle clips a tree, pole or another vehicle that has crossed the center line. The model's Access Cab extended-cab version was rated similarly, though its structure was rated acceptable. "This group of small pickups performed better in the small overlap front test than many of their larger pickup cousins," says David Zuby, the Institute's executive vice president and chief research officer. "The exception was the Nissan Frontier, which hasn't had a structural redesign since the 2005 model year." The extended-cab versions of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon earned acceptable ratings, while both the Nissan Frontier king-cab and crew-cab models were rated marginal. Toyota says its 2018 Tacoma will feature upgraded headlights and a standard autobraking system that can detect pedestrians. "Headlights are basic but vital safety equipment. Drivers shouldn't have to give up the ability to see the road at night when they choose a small pickup," Zuby said. As promised, Chevrolet and GMC are offering a live webcast of the world premiere for the all-new 2014 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500. After being teased with spy shots and blurry images like the one above for ages, now is the time to see the trucks in the metal, for real (well, as 'real' as it gets on a webcast, at any rate).
Shift your eyes down just below to see the reveal as it happens, starting at 9:30 AM EST. We anticipate having loads of images full technical information to share after the webcast, too, so truck aficionados should stay tuned. We'll also be bringing you live images of both trucks too, when we see them on the show floor at next month's Detroit Auto Show.
GM claims it's first to sell million 30+ mpg vehicles
Fri, 04 Jan 2013As we continue to put together all the data for the year-end edition of By The Numbers, General Motors has announced that it sold more than a million vehicles in the US last year that achieved at least 30 miles per gallon on the highway. More impressively, GM managed this feat using multiple strategies including small vehicle size, turbocharged engines and hybrid or plug-in technologies across four brands (Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC) accounting for 13 separate models. This number will grow even more in 2013 thanks to cars like the all-electric Spark, the diesel Cruze, the range-extended Cadillac ELR and the Buick Encore compact CUV.
GM's small car sales were up 39 percent last year helping to attain this million-sales mark for 30-mpg models, and almost 40 percent of all GM sales consisted of cars with fuel-efficient I4 engines. In regards to more advanced means of improving fuel economy, GM says that it plans on having 500,000 vehicles with "some form of electrification" on the road by 2017.
