UP FOR SALE IS MY SON'S 1997 4 DR BLAZER. BOUGHT IN 1997 WITH 75,000 MILES, NOW READS 114,000....LESS THAN 8000 MILES PER YR. OVER THE YEARS HAVE REPLACED THE RADIATOR, WATER PUMP, ALL BALL JOINTS, TIE RODS,IDLER,PITMAN ARM,SWAY BAR LINKS, THOSE ROTTEN LEAKY OIL COOLER LINES SO FAMILIAR TO 4.3 OWNERS, FULL IGNITION TUNE UP,SHOCKS, FULL EXHAUST,SEVERAL O2 SENSORS, BELT TENSIONER. IN LAST 18 MONTHS HAVE CHANGED REAR BRAKE LINES,TPS,FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. AVERAGE OIL CHANGE INTERVAL AROUND 4200 MILES. NO RUST, TRANS SOLID, MOTOR STRONG (WITH AN ASTERISK....SEE BELOW), NO SMOKE. ABOUT 20000 MILES ON TIRES. NEW BATTERY 6 MONTHS AGO, NEW STARTER 2 MONTHS AGO. CLASS 3 HITCH. I DRIVE IT AS IS TO KEEP THE FLUIDS MOVING AND THE BATTERY CHARGED. TOOK IT OUT TO PA. LAST MONTH WITH  NO PROBLEMS (ABOUT 170 MILES). INTERIOR IS PRETTY GOOD FOR 16 YEARS OLD.....NON-SMOKER OWNED.

NOW FOR THE BAD STUFF...THE ASTERISK REFERS TO THE DREADED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BLAZER OWNERS ALL KNOW AND LOVE. I GOT A PO CODE FOR A MISFIRE (CYLINDER 2, I THINK) AND FIGURED IT NEEDED IGNITION STUFF AGAIN A FEW MONTHS AGO. CHANGED WIRES, PLUGS, CAP, ROTOR, AND THREW IN A NEW COIL FOR THE HELL OF IT. RAN MUCH BETTER, BUT STILL HAS THE LIGHT AND A ROUGH IDLE/MISS. RUNS STRONG ON THE ROAD WITH NO DETECTABLE MISS, BUT LIGHT NEVER GOES OUT AND THE IDLE ALWAYS SUCKS. MECHANIC FRIEND SAYS IT IS MOST LIKELY A CLOGGED INJECTOR, BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY MORE TIME OR PATIENCE FOR DEALING WITH THAT....MY SON GOT A NEWER RIDE AND I HAVE MY OWN 2 CARS TO WORK ON AND CURSE AT. INJECTORS ARE UNDER PLENUM AND REQUIRE REMOVAL OF INTAKE ASSEMBLY TO REPAIR. IF YOU'RE GONNA GO FOR THAT MUCH TROUBLE, YOU SHOULD CHANGE THE WHOLE SPIDER ASSEMBLY (AROUND$280) AND FORGET ABOUT IT FOR ANOTHER 100,000 MILES.

OTHER STUFF: THE STANDARD BLAZER & 4.3 IDIOSYNCRASIES - TICKY VALVES WHEN STARTED COLD (LIKE THAT SINCE WE BOUGHT IT), VACUUM CONTROL OR SWITCH FOR 4WD INTERMITTENT...TRANSFER CASE GOOD, 4WD RARELY USED BUT DOES WORK WHEN IT WANTS TO.....WISH THEY HAD LEFT THEM WITH MANUAL CONTROL LIKE THE OLD ONES...THEY ALWAYS WORKED RIGHT. REQUIRED CLUNKING FROM THOSE DAMN TORSION BARS....MOST OF THE REST OF THE FRONT END ONLY HAS ABOUT 25000 MILES ON IT. LOTS OF CENTER PLAY IN STEERING BOX...MIGHT BE ADJUSTABLE, NEVER TRIED.

SMALL PAINT BLISTERS AROUND FUEL FILLER DOOR (NO ACTUAL RUST), A FEW DINGS AND DANGS. 1 SMALL SEPARATION OF FABRIC ON DRIVER'S SEAT...SEE PIC

ALL IN ALL, WOULD MAKE A GOOD CHEAP WINTER STATION CAR, BEATER OR TOW MULE. GREAT FIRST TANK FOR A KID.....HEAVY, SLOW AND LOUSY ON GAS TO KEEP HIM OR HER FROM WANTING TO DRIVE TOO MUCH....FULL FRAME AND LOTS OF STEEL TO ABSORB IMPACT...ALONG WITH ABS AND AIR BAGS.

I'VE DONE THE BEST I COULD TO DESCRIBE THIS CAR ACCURATELY....PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS 16 YEARS OLD AND FAR FROM PERFECT....SALE IS "AS IS, WHERE IS"...PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO COME CHECK OUT THE CAR IF YOU ARE SERIOUS.....I DON'T WANT ANY AFTER SALE PROBLEMS

NO RESERVE....THIS CAR WILL SELL ! DON'T MISS OUT ON A GOOD BEATER....OVER $3000 IN PARTS CHANGED SINCE WE'VE OWNED IT....$600 SINCE LAST SUMMER....THATS PARTS ALONE...MY LABOR THROWN IN FOR FREE !  A LOT THERE TO WORK WITH AT A CHEAP PRICE !

P.S. - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T BID IF YOU ARE NOT READY TO BUY....IT IS NOT FAIR TO SERIOUS BUYERS.

Weekly Recap: Lincoln Continental serves up the style, Cadillac CT6 delivers the substance in New York

Sat, Apr 4 2015

Lincoln and Cadillac grabbed the spotlight this week at the New York Auto Show in a dramatic fashion that evoked the brands' glory days. America's two luxury carmakers went toe-to-toe with their glittering reveals and plans for ambitious expansion. Both were selling their technology, style and the promise of a better future. Cadillac vs. Lincoln. At the Javits Center, 2015 seemed a lot like 1956. Neither company was interested in drawing comparisons with the other, which is fair, and accurate. They're in vastly different places in terms of sales and the pace of their turnarounds, but they hope to reach the same eventual destination at the pinnacle of the luxury-car world. Lincoln used the element of surprise to great effect with the Continental concept. A production version is still at least a year away, and the company was vague on details. Officially, we don't even know if it is front- or rear-wheel drive, though speculation abounds. Who cares? The seats can be adjusted 30 ways! The Continental also showed off a bold chrome grille that will be the new face of Lincoln. The blue bomber also rolled on blinged-out 21-inch polished aluminum wheels, used a 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine and had huge LED head lights with "laser-assisted" high beams. All of this resulted in almost blinding attention. The concept drew rave reviews, stirred controversy with Bentley designers who argued Lincoln ripped them off, and most importantly, pointed a way forward for the newly determined brand that hopes to compete with Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Cadillac and Lexus. View 32 Photos Meanwhile, Cadillac showed the CT6, a finished product that will top its range and is loaded with the best and latest technologies General Motors has at its disposal. With production starting late this year, Cadillac had more specifics at the ready. Engines? Cadillac has a couple V6s and a turbo four for sure. It's working on a hybrid, and has considered a V-Series variant. It's based on a new rear-wheel-drive, aluminum-intensive chassis called Omega, features an advanced collision-mitigation system with automatic braking and has a cabin that's laden with "leathers, exotic woods and carbon fiber." It will be assembled at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck factory and goes on sale next year. At this point, Cadillac is more than willing to talk about every except for the price. The devil was not in the details for Cadillac, as evidenced by the CT6. But it wasn't for Lincoln either.

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Chevrolet Turbo Sprint

Sun, Feb 6 2022

Fifteen years ago, I wrote my first-ever automotive article under the name Murilee Martin, and it didn't take me long to start writing about one of my favorite automotive subjects: the junkyard. Before I'd refined my system for documenting discarded vehicles, however, I shot a lot of boneyard photos that never got used. For today's Junkyard Gem, I have four shots from early 2007 of one of the rarest turbocharged machines of the 1980s: the Chevrolet Turbo Sprint. The Chevrolet Sprint was really a rebadged Suzuki Cultus, from the pre-Geo era when General Motors sold the Isuzu Gemini as the Chevrolet Spectrum, the Daewoo LeMans as the Pontiac LeMans and the Toyota Corolla as the Chevrolet Nova (soon enough, the Spectrum became a Geo, and the Nova became the Prizm). The second-generation Cultus appeared in 1988, becoming the Geo Metro on our shores the following year. The Turbo Sprint was available for just the last two years of the Sprint's 1985-1988 American sales run, and it appears that just a couple of thousand were sold; if I'd known at the time just how rare they were, I'd have shot more photos of this one at the now-defunct Hayward Pick Your Part. The turbocharged 993cc three-cylinder produced 70 horsepower, 22 better than the naturally-aspirated version. Since the Turbo Sprint weighed just 1,620 pounds (that's about 500 pounds lighter than a barely more powerful '22 Mitsusbishi Mirage), it was plenty of fun to drive. For 1988, the regular Sprint hatchback cost $6,380 while the Turbo Sprint listed at $8,240 (that's about $15,375 and $19,855 today, respectively). Believe it or not, a Turbo Sprint actually raced in the 24 Hours of Lemons 10 years ago, though it didn't end well. This ad is for the regular Cultus, not the Cultus Turbo, but the screaming guitars sound reasonably turbocharged. For the most part, Chevy Sprint marketing was all about cheap purchase price and stingy fuel economy… at a time when gasoline prices were cratering. Related Video:
