I am selling my 1991 K5 Blazer. I built this with the intention of keeping it but a mean wife forces the sale. No expense was spared during this build. It has just been sitting around for a year or so. I bet I don't have 1K on it since I finished it last spring. It is the original color. The owners manual shows a dealership in Texas. All the sheet metal is original with the exception of the floor pans and rockers. I had a body shop do this work for me. It was painted from the body line down on the front fenders and doors. The hood, roof and tailgate were not painted. There was no rust in the tub. I stripped it down to bare metal, primed it and coated it with Rock It liner. It looks very good. I also used a generic dyna mat on the floors. The carpet is new front to back. The seats are from a 2006 Silverado 2500. The drivers seat has a cigarette burn on the bottom.  All the weather seals are new. The drivers side window works great but the wing makes wind noise. The passenger side works slow. I don't know why, I replaced both window motors and regulators. Every interior part was removed cleaned and painted with LMC's interior dye and clear coated. The dash pad is new from Summit Racing. It fits poorly but its not cracked. I called Summit about it being a POS and they said that they no longer carry that line and refunded my money. Thanks Summit! I had a dip switch installed in the DRAC so that I could program the speedometer. Its correct. The odometer has not worked since I have owned it. It has a flip out touch screen radio and junk speakers in the dash. The interior is very nice but needs the rear side panels. The rear window was working but now it's not. I hear the motor trying to work so I suspect the regulator is rusty. They axles are 4:10 ratio out of an 86 3/4 ton. The truck has an all spring 2-1/5" lift. I also corrected the steering arm. It drives great. The rear axle has a gov-loc differential and all new bearings. I kept the 3/4 ton brakes, which are all new and make this truck stop like its angry. Both drive shafts are custom made by Denny's Driveshafts. The transfer case is original but rebuilt. The transmission is a Monster 700R4 It was there most expensive one I forget what they call it. Here is the fun part!!! The engine is a .030 over 4 bolt 454. It is 9.6 to 1. Zero deck. The crank and rods are stock. The pistons are J&E flat tops. The bearings are Clevite's hardened race set. Total seal rings. The rotating assembly was balanced. The heads are oval port with new SS valves. Full aluminum roller rockers and a Comp Cams roller cam. It has an aluminium dual plane intake. It has Holley's EFI system that also controls timing. All new MSD external coil distributor, box and coil. It has an upgraded fuel pump in the tank Wabro? maybe? Coated Hooker headers with cats and flowmasters (sounds awesome). I have installed a knoc sensor but I never tried to program the computer to work with it. I think I have it set too sensitive and it immediately takes 3 degrees out of it. It starts and idles great hot or cold. On a very cold day its best to let it idle for a few before touching the gas pedal. Again I could have probably tuned the cold idle better but I didn't spend the time on it. In the interior photos you can see the USB cable. Just plug it into your laptop and tune. It was really user friendly. I added an aluminium radiator. It has an electric fan out of a Crown Vic Police Interceptor and is computer controlled. The A/C needs to be charged. The compressor and lines are new. I may have replaced the evaporator but I don't remember. The rims are cheap 16" with Goodyear Dura Tracks. I tried to spray clear coat on the rims because they shipped bare. I don't know how to paint so some of it flaked off. The tires are like new with no wear or dryrot. They ride real nice and quiet. I put a new heater core in it and disassembled and cleaned the heater box. All flexible brake hoses were replaced with braided stainless. This is a real nice truck! I think I could get it to wheelie if I really tried!!!
The areas that I would address are:
Rear window regulator
A/C charge
Slow passenger window
a small rust spot on the bottom of the passenger door
Spend some time with the engine computer to dial in knock sensors and cold idle.
Rear interior panels
Wind noise from drivers wing window

I have tried to describe this as accurately as possible. I have replaced almost every part on this truck. I have most of the receipts. This truck also has no battery draws and started right up EVERY TIME this winter even when it was near 0. The rear bumper is new from Goodmark. The front is a nice used one. The previous owner painted the old ones grey. Look over the pictures and ask questions. I would like to get her sold but I will not give it away.

Next Chevy Silverado could get this built-in tailgate step

Thu, Feb 2 2017

General Motors just received patent approval for a tailgate step in a pickup bed. And given the timing, don't be surprised if you see this on the upcoming 2019 Silverado pickup (not the mention its GMC Sierra twin), expected to arrive in late 2018. According to the patent, granted in December of last year, the whole mechanism is housed in the tailgate assemble. The magic happens when a portion of the top half of the tailgate swings down and a step folds out. There's also a handle that locks into position to help climb up into the bed. As trucks get bigger and taller over the years, it gets harder and harder to access the cargo bed. Ford's solution with the 2009 F-150 was a step that slides out from the end of the tailgate. Back then, Chevy made an ill-advised ad highlighting the feature for Ford. And while Howie Long mocked the F-150's "man step" Ford saw almost a third of its trucks with the option in the first year. The GM design seems to improve on Ford's idea as it appears to be wider and has a back to the lower step. That is, you don't have to worry about stepping through the ladder-rung design as on the F-150. Ford's tailgate step later spread to the F Super Duty, and other cargo access assists have proliferated through the truck world. On the most recent redesign, the Chevrolet Silverado took a trick from the Avalanche and added cutouts to the corners of the rear bumper that act as a foothold. Ford also offers a deployable side step, Chevrolet has running boards that scoot rearward with a kick of the boot, and Ram offers fixed wheel-to-wheel side rails. Nissan is in on the game too, with an optional folding step that tucks under the rear bumper. We don't expect Chevrolet to comment on when or if we'll see this feature in the showrooms. But given that engineers are already hard at work on the next Silverado and the timing of this patent lines right up with the new truck's development cycle, we'll be disappointed if this patent stays in the file cabinet. Hot Wheels Camaro to make big debut at Indy

Fri, 05 Apr 2013

Chevrolet handed over the keys to 33 Hot Wheels Camaro Convertible Indianapolis 500 festival cars this week. Race directors get the luxury of driving the droptops around Indianapolis in an ongoing tradition with roots all the way back to the 1960s. The stunt is supposed to remind area residents that the Indy 500 is right around the corner. The cars are our first look at the special Camaro Hot Wheels Edition in convertible form, and they are slated to head to dealers after a one-time production run. The cars also represent the first time in history full-size Hot Wheels have been offered for sale by an automaker.
The cars will be available in both the previously seen coupe bodystyle and this convertible configuration, and will feature metallic blue paint and special wheels with the iconic redline accent. Buyers will be able to choose between the V6-powered 2LT trim and the V8-powered 2SS guise.
Hot Wheels says the original Custom Camaro toy was one of the original 16 1:64-scale diecasts, and it remains one of the company's most valuable collector items today.

GM trucks get hybrid versions, but you'll probably never see one

Thu, Feb 25 2016

A few years ago, General Motors sold hybrid versions of its Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. They weren't very good, using GM's old two-mode hybrid system that resulted in only negligible fuel economy gains. But GM's trying again, launching eAssist models of the 2016 Silverado and Sierra that are said to offer 2-mpg improvements in city, highway, and combined fuel economy ratings. Problem is, you probably won't be able to get one. Only 700 eAssist trucks will be made for the 2016 model year – 500 Silverados and 200 Sierras. When you consider that GM moved 824,683 examples of its light-duty pickups in 2015, this small run represents 0.08-percent of all Silverado/Sierra production, and GM says it "will monitor the market closely ... and adjust as appropriate moving forward." But that's not the only limitation. The eAssist trucks will only be sold through California dealers. For the Silverado, eAssist can only be optioned on the 1500 Crew Cab 1LT 2WD model, and for the Sierra, the fuel-saving technology is solely available on the 1500 SLT Crew Cab 2WD model with the SLT Premium Plus package. Granted, in terms of the Sierra, that means you get niceties like LED headlights and taillights, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bose premium audio, heated seats and steering wheel, lane keep assist, and more. In the trucks, eAssist combines a small electric motor and 0.45-kWh battery pack with the pickups' 5.3-liter V8. GM estimates total output of 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque – no more horsepower than the non-eAssist trucks, but three more pound-feet of torque. GM says the eAssist trucks can tow up to 9,400 pounds, and the battery only adds 100 pounds to the trucks' weight. The electric motor provides 13 hp and 44 lb-ft of torque for a boost of acceleration off the line, or during passing. It also allows the engine to run in four-cylinder mode for longer periods of time. eAssist uses regenerative braking to help power onboard electrical systems, and adds start/stop to the powertrain. Finally, the so-equipped trucks have a six-percent improvement in aerodynamics, thanks to a soft tonneau cover and active grille shutters in the front fascia. Great news is, the eAssist option is relatively inexpensive, only costing $500. But good luck getting your hands on one.
