If you're wondering what a 1957 Chevrolet 210 Del Ray might be, it's a handsome mid-level 210 with an upgraded interior, called, of course, the Del Ray. This lovely 2-door is a wonderful study in contrasts and if you're a fan of the slightly unusual, then this '57 definitely warrants further attention.
Most importantly, the color combination of Adobe Beige over Sierra Gold is not only insanely attractive, but this car's original combination. It's subtle and very tasteful and in a sea of red and blue Bel Airs, this handsome car will most certainly stand out. More remarkably, this pretty car wears all its original sheetmetal and nothing was patched, cut, or replaced during the restoration. Obviously those guys knew what they were doing, because the results are simply spectacular. Great gaps, shiny paint, and excellent trim alignment mean that the car looks at least as good as it did when it was new. The 210s received the same bright trim as the Bel Air, although the quarter panel insert was painted to match the upper body color rather than fitted with aluminum inserts, and I think I like this look better. Maybe it's just the color combination, but this car gets people's attention every time they see it. And yes, all the chrome has been restored to the same high standards, so it glitters like jewelry against the low-key paint.
The Del Ray interior is a special place to be. Two-tone upholstery is a bit different than the usual '57 fare and it looks quite upscale overall. The colors complement the bodywork perfectly and the materials and patterns are very authentic. A beautiful steering wheel frames the original gauges which show bright markings and vivid orange needles. Accessories include a heater and AM radio, all of which are correct for 1957, and the 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive makes this very pleasant on the road. Heck, there are even color-matched floor mats and fuzzy dice! Seat belts were added for safety, but otherwise it's very much the way it would have been moments after rolling out of the showroom in 1957. The trunk is outfitted with a correct mat, reproduction decals, and a full-sized bias-ply spare tire with jack assembly.
Although this car was originally fitted with a six, a correct 283 cubic inch V8 was dropped in during the restoration. It's highly correct thanks to the work of '57 Chevy expert Larry Igo, so all the factory inspection marks and colors were faithfully reproduced. There's nothing under the hood that wouldn't have been there in '57, and it will take someone checking numbers to determine this car wasn't delivered with a V8. It's got a Power Pack 4-barrel and dual exhaust system so it's a joy to drive, particularly with that overdrive transmission, and you can bet that every inch of the undercarriage was detailed just as well. Red oxide primer on the floors is correct and even the rear end was correctly finished with an unpainted center section. Despite being restored in the mid-80s, expert care and light use have preserved this car at an amazing level. Even the tires are correct 7.50-14 wide whites on painted steel wheels, which are offered without trim rings (they were not included on the 210s).
This car is highly accurate and just far enough outside the mainstream to attract real attention. If you like the colors, we guarantee you're going to love the car. Call today!

Automotive News reports that General Motors may slash production or ramp up discounts in order to deal with an oversupply of pickup trucks. GM currently has more than double the standard supply of pickups, and the vehicles are threatening to dampen the automaker's profits for 2013. Typically, automakers try to sustain a 60- to 75-day supply of vehicles, but GM is currently loaded with a 139-day supply, as of last month. At the end of November, the automaker was sitting on 245,853 units.
The manufacturer says that it will adjust production accordingly before laying any incentives on the profitable pickups. Even so, there's some concern that the inventory swell could hurt the roll-out of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. GM actually began slowly stepping back production in August, but it's clear the company will take further action as it heads toward the end of the year and into the next. Analysts predict the automaker could reduce pickup manufacturing by nearly half in the first quarter of 2013.
That still may not be enough to keep GM from laying extra cash on the Silverado and GMC Sierra. While the company's incentive spending was down in November compared to the same month in 2011, both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 saw double-digit percentage increases in sales last month while the Silverado and Sierra numbers slid compared to a year prior. Incentive spending could help move more trucks and add some balance to the GM inventory surge.

DETROIT — General Motors said Thursday that higher prices for popular pickup trucks and SUVs helped overcome slowing global sales and profit rose by 1% in the second quarter. The Detroit automaker said it made $2.42 billion, or $1.66 per share, from April through June. Adjusting for restructuring costs, GM made $1.64 per share, blowing by analyst estimates of $1.44. Quarterly revenue fell 2% to $36.06 billion, but still beat estimates. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $35.97 billion. Global sales fell 6% to 1.94 million vehicles led by declines in North America and Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. The company says sales in China were weak, and it expects that to continue through the year. In the United States, customers paid an average of $41,461 for a GM vehicle during the quarter, an increase of 2.2%, as buyers went for loaded-out pickups and SUVs, according to the Edmunds.com auto pricing site. The U.S. is GM's most profitable market. Chief Financial Officer Dhivya Suryadevara said she expects the strong pricing to continue, especially as GM rolls out a diesel pickup and new heavy-duty trucks in the second half of the year. "We think the fundamentals do remain strong, especially in the truck market," she said, adding that strength in the overall economy and aging trucks now on the road should help keep the trend going. Light trucks accounted for 83.1% of GM's sales in the quarter, and pickup truck sales rose 8.5% as GM transitioned to new models of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, according to Edmunds, which provides content to The Associated Press. As usual, GM made most of its money in North America, reporting $3 billion in pretax earnings. International operations including China broke even, while the company spent $300 million on its GM Cruise automated vehicle unit. Its financial arm made $500 million in pretax income. Suryadevara said GM saw $700 million in savings during the quarter from restructuring actions announced late last year that included cutting about 8,000 white-collar workers through layoffs, buyouts and early retirements. The company also announced plans to close five North American factories, shedding another 6,000 jobs. About 3,000 factory workers in the U.S. whose jobs were eliminated at four plants will be placed at other factories, but they could have to relocate. GM expects the restructuring to generate $2 billion to $2.5 billion in annual cost savings by the end of this year.

The 2016 Chevrolet Volt, with its thorough restyling and increased all-electric range, is an exciting evolution of Chevy's groundbreaking plug-in hybrid, so it's only fitting that the commercial campaign to sell it to the masses also be engaging and vibrant. Well, the first ad has just been officially released and it rocks... us to sleep. Now, we get that General Motors didn't want to repeat past Volt-commercial mistakes. No one wants to see dogs licking feet or dumb (and weirdly horny) aliens again. Nor would it be smart to slam all-electric vehicles, since it now sells the Spark EV and has just revealed its 200-mile Bolt concept. So, what does that leave? How about a mostly computer-generated spot that relies on cliche images and an upbeat synthetic soundtrack to communicate that the Volt is now as boring as other four-door appliances? An intro, featuring a lightly-bearded gentleman peering at his tablet through designer glasses launches us into the action as the Volt makes its way across a city bridge, then a curvaceous country road. Chevrolet doesn't include voiceover to inform you that the new Volt has a 50-mile battery-only range. There's no mention of its gas mileage once its electric charge is depleted – items that just might be of importance to hybrid buyers. The ad also makes no attempt at establishing an emotional connection, either through drama or comedy. There are, however, lots of fast cuts of the new, normalized interior, including a two-second detail shot featuring the windshield wiper switch. We imagine that this is only the first in a series of spots that will tell the Volt story and motivate potential buyers to run down to their local dealer, hopefully the next spots will be more interesting and informative.
