Here's the short version: 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air hardtop. Nice older restoration with 283 cubic inch V8 and automatic transmission. Bright Matador Red paint with white top. Several upgrades to make it easy and fun to drive. Get in and have fun!
The long version is pretty much the same story: a really nice 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air that was restored in 1990 and built to cruise. The world's most popular collector car always looks right in Matador Red, which is probably the quintessential '57 Chevy color; when you close your eyes and picture a '57, isn't this how it always looks? Despite the restoration being nearly 25 years old, the car looks fantastic and provides the kind of worry-free motoring that will make it a favorite cruiser. There are a few signs of use here and there, but the quality of the work was quite good and it's obviously been loved and properly maintained since it was completed. There's a great shine to the paint, the doors and hood fit well, and all the shiny Bel Air trim lines up neatly. The unique anodized panels that define the Bel Air look great and someone obviously invested pretty heavily in the chrome, because it still looks quite good.
A very correct black and red interior is more proof that the restoration was done right. Funky cloth inserts are exactly like what this car wore in 1957 and the black fabric and matching carpets offset all the red that is everywhere else. Beautiful door panels look far younger than their age and the bright instruments in the color-matched dashboard seem to defy the years. Auxiliary gauges under the dash are probably a little more accurate than the factory dials and for entertainment there's a Retro Radio AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit in the dash. The seating surfaces and carpets sure don't look like they've been in place for nearly a quarter-century, again indicative of quality workmanship and materials. Even the trunk doesn't look like it's carried anything but light cleaning supplies, because the inner panels still look shiny and the rubber mat looks almost new. There's also a matching fifth wheel and radial tire with a full jack assembly, just in case.
You shouldn't be surprised to see a 283 cubic inch V8 under the hood of this '57, and with several smart upgrades, it's a fantastic driver. An Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carburetor give this small block the Power Pac punch that most owners added anyway, and the bright Chevy Orange paint underneath looks impossibly shiny and neat to be more than a few years old at most. Chrome dress-up pieces and braided stainless hose covers make it look up-to-date, while drivability upgrades like the modern dual master cylinder, an aluminum cooling fan, and a modern alternator make it quite road-worthy. The original 2-speed PowerGlide automatic still lives behind the warmed-over small block and drives the original rear end. Glasspack-style mufflers give it a traditional '50s sound and while the underside shows signs of use over the years, you also know it's sorted out and ready to enjoy. I think if it were mine, I'd add a set of wide whites, but the 205/70/14 radials on it now ride and handle well and have lots of life left in them.
The long and short of this car is that a bright red '57 Bel Air hardtop will never go out of fashion. If you've longed for one, now might be your best chance to own the dream. Call today!

An issue with fires erupting in some Hummers has prompted General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to issue a recall for nearly 200,000 vehicles around the world. The bulk of them are in the United States. According to the first statement (below) obtained by Autoblog from GM, the issue stems from the HVAC system in Hummer H3 models. The connector module for the blower motor has, in certain cases, overheated, melted the surrounding plastic, and started a fire. 42 such cases have been reported, including three instances of occupants citing minor burns. GM confirms that two of those three cases lead to the vehicle being destroyed in the fire, but states that no crashes or fatalities have resulted. The issue affects 196,379 examples of the 2006-10 H3 wagon and the 2009-10 H3T pickup, with 164,993 estimated to be in the United States. In order to fix the issue, dealers are being instructed to replace the relevant parts of the connector and harness. In a second, unrelated campaign, GM is also calling in 50,731 Chevy Spark and Sonic small cars – 45,785 of them in the US – due to a software glitch. In those affected vehicles fitted with the base radio and OnStar system, the audio system may not be able to switch out of turn-by-turn direction mode, causing the display to go blank and all sound to mute – including key safety warnings. In addition, the system may not switch off, draining the battery. GM states that no crashes, injuries, or fatalities have resulted from this issue, and all that dealers will need to do in this case is reflash the software. Related Video: General Motors is recalling 164,993 2006-2010 model year HUMMER H3 and 2009-2010 model year HUMMER H3T models in the U.S. In certain vehicles, the connector module that controls the blower motor speed in the heat/vent/air conditioning (HVAC) system may overheat under extended periods of operation at high- and medium-high speeds. The heat could melt the plastic surrounding the connector module, increasing the risk of a fire. Dealers will replace the affected portion of the connector and harness. GM is aware of three reported minor burns and 42 fires but no crashes or fatalities related to this condition. Including Canada, Mexico and exports, the total recall population is 196,379. ### General Motors is recalling 45,785 2014-2015 model year Chevrolet Sparks, and 2015 model year Chevrolet Sonics in the U.S.

Want proof that General Motors has increased global ambitions for its 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray? It's staging the world premiere of the model's convertible variant at the Geneva Motor Show early next month.
As previously rumored, the droptop rendered above will debut at the Swiss show, making its first appearance anywhere on March 5. According to Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet, the location makes sense because Corvette "...is an icon that has long been recognized and admired even in countries where it's never officially been offered."
While neither Chevrolet nor the Corvette has a major sales presence in Switzerland, the Bowtie's European headquarters is located in Zurich (about three hours to the northeast of Geneva) and GM has made it clear that it wants to build the Chevrolet brand up across Europe.

Last month, General Motors launched a series of ads touting the benefits of steel over aluminum – specifically, with regard to the Chevy Silverado versus the Ford F-150. (Kind of. We're not sure what a grizzly bear has to do with anything.) We took issue with the ads, with editor in chief Mike Austin saying they "reek of insecurity, and distract from the Silverado's strengths that could be used for positive advertising." But what bothers us more, is that yet another report surfaced claiming anti-aluminum GM will indeed use the weight-saving material in its next-generation fullsize trucks. On Tuesday, GM announced a $877-million investment for its truck plant in Flint, MI. But Reuters says that huge overhaul is because the trucks will use "substantially different equipment than the tools GM uses today." The report specifically states, "People familiar with the company's plans say GM's next-generation pickups and SUVs will make use of various materials, including aluminum and lightweight steel, to shed weight and gain fuel efficiency to meet tougher federal standards." The Silverado already uses a few aluminum components in the engine and hood, and if more widespread use will help GM build its best fullsize trucks ever, then that's great. Honestly, we have no reason to doubt that aluminum will be used in the next Silverado and GMC Sierra. We just hope GM remembers that nothing is ever truly deleted from the bowels of the Internet when it launches the subsequent "look how great aluminum is!" campaign.
