Alpharetta, Georgia, United States
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL, NICELY RESTORED, 1956 CHEVROLET BEL AIR LOADED WITH OPTIONS INCLUDING AIR CONDITIONING AND POWER WINDOWS....GREAT STANCE, READY TO SHOW AND GO!!
HAVE YOU BEEN SEARCHING FOR A REALLY SWEET TRI-FIVE CHEVY AND LOVE THE '56 BEL AIR? DO YOU WANT ONE THAT HAS BEEN NICELY RESTORED AND WAS CLEARLY A SOUTHERN CAR WITHOUT ANY OF THE TYPICAL RUST ISSUES? ARE YOU LOOKING FOR ONE THAT HAS BEEN SLIGHTLY RESTO-MODDED WITH A GREAT STANCE? DO YOU PLAN ON DRIVING IT AND ENJOYING IT AND WANT IT TO BE A GREAT CRUISER WITH SOME MODERN COMFORT FEATURES LIKE VINTAGE AIR CONDITIONING, AND POWER DISC BRAKES? IF YOU HAVE BEEN SHAKING YOUR HEAD YES THEN GET COMFORTABLE BECAUSE THIS COULD BE THE ONE FOR YOU!! This Tropical Turquoise and India Ivory '56 Bel Air was owned by a great car guy in Texas for the past 6 years. He purchased it from another car enthusiast in Tennessee who believed this Tri-Five Chevy had spent most, if not all of its live in the Tennessee area. The last restoration was done about 10 years ago on a rust free body. The gentleman we bought it from had owned several 55-57 Bel Airs over the years in addition to many classic cars and he emphasized how thrilled he was when this one arrived at his home off the Enclosed trailer 6 years ago. I can understand why as I had the same feeling when it arrived to us here in the Atlanta, GA area. In fact I drove it home the day it arrived and drove it most of the afternoon getting thumbs up everywhere I went. Absolutely beautiful paint and body and nicely restored everywhere else as well. This is a fantastic '56 Bel Air for the person who wants one that will win its share of trophies at the local shows and cruise ins but is also set up to drive and enjoy with some great modern comfort features. The previous owner was down-sizing from his hime with a large garage and lots of property to a townhouse with a 2 car garage. He decided it was time to pass this sweet '56 to the next lucky owner...Maybe you?? I will do my best to provide enough large images, a couple of videos so you can hear it running, and an honest description to help you decide if this Bel Air should be in your garage before the next car guy or gal scoops it up. Restored about 10 years ago the paint and body on this Bel Air still look fantastic. Body panels are extremely straight and overall body panel fit is also excellent. Doors open and shut with ease. The period correct color combination is what I believe to be Tropical Turquoise and India Ivory. Paint quality is excellent. Chrome trim, bumpers, emblems etc all look fantastic. This Bel Air was built to be driven and has been to the tune of about 10,750 miles since the restoration. Although nothing stood out to me, lets assume there are a couple of really tiny rock chips somewhere along the body. I also noticed a very small blem under the paint between the trunk and the rear window. Overall the glass looks excellent however I did notice a minor chip at the top of both the drivers and passengers front windows. These windows are probably original. One cool feature of these '56's is the hideaway gas cap located inside the drivers side rear taillight. Great stance thanks to the drop spindles up front and lowering blocks in the rear as well as the 17" Torque Thrust wheels. Overall the body and paint look fantastic and will definitely turn heads and win trophies at the local shows. Here is a walk around photo tour: Complimenting the 2-tone Turquoise and Ivory exterior is an equally stunning 2-tone green interior accented in silver. The interior really combines some great originality with some awesome modern updates and comfort features. The original front and rear seats were recovered in original style covers and look amazing. as The door panels and carpeting also appears to have been replaced with original style. The headliner looks like it could be original and has some discoloration but overall looks great for the age. Power windows function nicely although the passenger side front window only goes up with the switch on the passenger door but we will try to correct that before the car leaves us. Beautiful set of Dakota Digital gauges were installed when the car was restored and the mileage reads just under 10,750 miles which is the actual mileage since restoration. A digital clock was installed on the passenger side of the dash as well. All of the gauges and lights appear to be functioning accurately. For your comfort inside the cabin, Vintage air conditioning and heat were neatly installed and work great. Tilt Steering column with a nice billet Specialties steering wheel were installed as well. Nice sounding stereo was installed without cutting the dash and speakers were added in the front kick panels and rear deck. As you will see in the pictures below the interior looks just as sweet as the exterior and is show ready!! This '56 Bel Air is a sweet cruiser thanks to the completely rebuilt, period correct 283 V8 that has just under 10,750 miles on it since the restoration. The motor is very stock and was built to cruise and not race stop light to stop light. She still has plenty of power but at the same time is ready for todays highway speeds and can be driven any distance without worry. Handling is a breeze thanks to the power steering. Stopping is just as easy thanks to the upgraded Power Front disc brakes. The turbo 350 Automatic transmission was also rebuilt at the time of restoration and shifts out nicely. Suspension was redone and the car was lowered with drop spindles and lowering springs up front and lowering blocks in the rear. Heavy duty front and rear sway bars also help this baby handle the road with ease. This Bel Air glides along the road and looks great doing it. A great looking set of 17" American Racing Torque Thrust wheels help to set this Hot rod off. Tires have tons of tread life left. Under the hood you will see it has been nicely detailed and a expensive and beautiful polished serpentine belt system was added. This Bel Air runs nice and cool thanks to the upgraded Aluminum radiator and dual electric fans. Ceramic coated headers breather out throughout the dual exhaust for a nice soft rumble. Floorpans and undercarriage are rock solid and rust free. Inside of the trunk is also in fantastic condition. Make sure you listen to the video that follows to hear it start up and running. HERE IS A SHORT VIDEO SO YOU CAN HEAR THE BEL AIR START UP AND RUNNING ( CLICK THE ARROW TO START ):

GM announces 3 new recalls affecting 1.7M vehicles in North America [w/video]
Mon, Mar 17 2014Still embroiled in the ongoing ignition switch recall, General Motors announced today three more discrete recalls, affecting a grand total of 1,546,900 vehicles in the US. The Detroit News reports that some 1.7 million vehicles are affected overall in North America. The first and largest of the trio of new recalls concerns some 1.18-million Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia crossovers from the 2008-2013 model years, Chevrolet Traverse from 2009-2013 (pictured above) and Saturn Outlook vehicles from 2008-2010. All of the crossover utilities may have an issue with the wiring harness for their seat-mounted side airbags. Apparently, the vehicles are equipped with a Service Air Bag warning light that, if ignored, "will eventually result in the non-deployment of the side impact restraints." Those restraints include the side airbags, a front-center airbag if the vehicle is so equipped and seatbelt pretensioners. Dealers of affected vehicles will be instructed to remove driver and passenger side airbag wiring harness connectors, and then "splice and solder the wires together." The second recall affects 303,000 Chevrolet Express (pictured right) and GMC Savana vans from model years 2009-2014, and with gross vehicle weights under 10,000 pounds. Said vehicles do not comply with a head impact requirement for unrestrained occupants, and will need a reworking of the instrument panel material to be sent back on the road. It doesn't sound as though there's a quick fix for this one, as the GM press release states: "Unsold vehicles have been placed on a stop delivery until development of the solution has been completed and parts are available." Finally, the third recall affects 63,900 Cadillac XTS luxury sedans from model years 2013 and 2014. A brake booster pump may be susceptible to corrosion by way of the relay, potentially causing and electrical short, overheating, melting of plastic components and even engine fires. GM says it is aware of two engine fires in unsold XTS models and two cases of melted parts. Repairs for the issues affecting the XTS have not not mentioned by GM in the release. The Detroit News is also reporting that along with news of the triple-recall, GM is taking a $300-million credit to help pay for the repair costs, and to deal with the ongoing costs associated with the ignition switch recall. In an attempt to explain just what GM has been doing in the face of these very serious issues, newly minted CEO Mary Barra has addressed the issues in a new video.
Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner
Sat, 24 Aug 2013For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"
GM trucks get hybrid versions, but you'll probably never see one
Thu, Feb 25 2016A few years ago, General Motors sold hybrid versions of its Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. They weren't very good, using GM's old two-mode hybrid system that resulted in only negligible fuel economy gains. But GM's trying again, launching eAssist models of the 2016 Silverado and Sierra that are said to offer 2-mpg improvements in city, highway, and combined fuel economy ratings. Problem is, you probably won't be able to get one. Only 700 eAssist trucks will be made for the 2016 model year – 500 Silverados and 200 Sierras. When you consider that GM moved 824,683 examples of its light-duty pickups in 2015, this small run represents 0.08-percent of all Silverado/Sierra production, and GM says it "will monitor the market closely ... and adjust as appropriate moving forward." But that's not the only limitation. The eAssist trucks will only be sold through California dealers. For the Silverado, eAssist can only be optioned on the 1500 Crew Cab 1LT 2WD model, and for the Sierra, the fuel-saving technology is solely available on the 1500 SLT Crew Cab 2WD model with the SLT Premium Plus package. Granted, in terms of the Sierra, that means you get niceties like LED headlights and taillights, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bose premium audio, heated seats and steering wheel, lane keep assist, and more. In the trucks, eAssist combines a small electric motor and 0.45-kWh battery pack with the pickups' 5.3-liter V8. GM estimates total output of 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque – no more horsepower than the non-eAssist trucks, but three more pound-feet of torque. GM says the eAssist trucks can tow up to 9,400 pounds, and the battery only adds 100 pounds to the trucks' weight. The electric motor provides 13 hp and 44 lb-ft of torque for a boost of acceleration off the line, or during passing. It also allows the engine to run in four-cylinder mode for longer periods of time. eAssist uses regenerative braking to help power onboard electrical systems, and adds start/stop to the powertrain. Finally, the so-equipped trucks have a six-percent improvement in aerodynamics, thanks to a soft tonneau cover and active grille shutters in the front fascia. Great news is, the eAssist option is relatively inexpensive, only costing $500. But good luck getting your hands on one.
