Thanks for looking at my mom's '57 Chevy Bel Air Hardtop. My father did everything but a frame off restoration including installing all new floors, body mounts, inner/outer rockers and rear quarters on both sides. He rebuilt this for my mom 15 years ago and they have only driven it about 500 miles since the restoration.
My father is a long time hot rodder and this isn't his first restoration. The work was done right with all the best parts available at the time.
Driveline:
The '57 features a rebuilt 305 (the original 283 had a cracked block) with the original 283 heads that were rebuilt as well. He wanted to be able to run the original valve covers is the reason for using the 283 heads. The valve cover bolt pattern is different on the 305 heads. Also installed were a new 2BBL carb, dual exhaust, and a rebuilt poower steering system. The car has been converted from a generator to a more reliable alternator. The transmission is a 350 hydromatic. The original powerglide is available. It's still is running the original oil bath air filter.
Suspension:
The front suspension has been completely rebuilt using 2 1/2" dropped spindles and converted to disc brakes. The rear is still the original '57 housing with drum brakes, but it rests on a set of Posies Rod & Customs 3" dearched leaf springs.
Trim and Paint:
The car was painted with laquer then clear coated 15 years ago. It's starting to cheque in a few places. The are a few minor chips in the paint that I've tried to include pictures of the damaged areas. It's been painted the original Matador red with a white roof. All of the chrome (bumpers, tail lights, door window frames, hood bars, etc) was replaced during the restoration and only the front bumper is starting to bubble. All of the glass was replaced except for the rear window. The interior was completely replaced with new upholstery on the original seat frames. Door panels, kick panels, headliner, carpet etc., were all replaced with factory correct replacement parts. All of the stainless side moulding trim is in nice shape.
Tires:
New Coker wide white wall radials are on all 4 corners
Areas that need attention:
The car heats up on very hot days, so it may need a new radiator. That's one of the few pieces that was replaced during the restoration. The original windshield wiper motor doesn't run, but dad has a new replacement motor kit that is a 2 speed set up with an intermittent setting. The hood could fit better, but it opens and closes with out rubbing on anything-see pictures. There is a small, maybe 1 1/2" diameter dent on the left front fender from one of his Cushman Motor Scooters falling against it. It's hard to see in the pictures, but it's there. Just not trying to hide anything. The original power steering slave cylinder was rebuilt with new seals, but still weeps a little bit. Seat belts were never installed.
Title:
Dad has a clear Pennsylvania title in his name.
Why is it being sold?
Plain and simple is they just don't drive it. They have a variety of other classics plus newer cars and this one just sits in the garage. So if you've been looking for a nice driver quality '57 hard top with out the big dollar price tag, this is the one you've been waiting for. Yeah, it could use a little attention hear and there, but they are minor concerns.
If you have any further questions, please call Delmar Baker at 814-934-8949 between 9am and 9pm east coast time zone. Sending an email via eBay will only delay getting an answer. My father doesn't do much online and I'm listing it to help he and mom out.
Delivery:
Dad will work with any shipping arrangements that you make. He doesn't have a car trailer, so pick up must be arranged. The car must be paid for in full either with a bank wire transfer or cash before delivery takes place. He's not a bank, payments will not be accepted. A $500 deposit must be received within 72 hours of auction close with final payment within 7 days. So make sure you check with your wife, spouse, girlfriend/boyfriend, significant other before bidding and have the necessary finances in order. Failure to make final payment will result in forfeiture of the deposit and negative feedback will be left.

GM natural gas-powered vans recalled due to possible leak
Wed, Sep 24 2014General Motors is recalling almost 3,200 of its compressed-natural-gas powered utility vans because of possible leaks. GM and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a notice last week saying that 3,196 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana CNG vans are on recall, though no accidents have been reported due to the possible issue. The recall is specifically for vans for model years ranging from 2011 to 2014. The recall stems from a potential leak from the compressed natural gas high-pressure regulator, and such a leak could cause a fire or explosion. GM will replace the vehicles' high-pressure regulator in order to fix the problem, will do it free of charge and is instructing owners to contact Chevrolet or GMC customer service to arrange for the parts replacement. Utility vehicle makers like General Motors have pushed for fleet sales of CNG-powered vans and trucks for the past few years and have touted them for their cheaper refueling costs relative to standard gasoline, not to mention the fact that natural gas can be readily sourced from throughout North America (thanks, fracking). According to CNGPrices.com, compressed natural gas sells for about $2.22 a gallon, on average, while the AAA is pegging the average price of gas at $3.34 a gallon. NHTSA has posted information on the recall here. Featured Gallery News Source: NHTSA via Reuters Green Chevrolet GM GMC Natural Gas Vehicles CNG gmc savana
2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is a Swiss hit
Mon, 04 Mar 2013We've just received an early peek at the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible here at the Geneva Motor Show. General Motors was kind enough to let us attend the final dress-rehearsal for its press conference scheduled for tomorrow's opening media day, and we've come away with a good look at the droptop C7 in person.
In the metal, the new Corvette Convertible seems somehow less avant-garde than the Coupe, even in Z51 Performance Package guise. That's not necessarily a bad thing - more of an observation. That initial impression may be because the C7's new greenhouse is one of its most prominent departures from Corvettes past. While we didn't get to see the top erected, there's no rear side window in the stock images that Chevy has already released, suggesting the C7 convertible's profile will look a lot like its C6 predecessor. And with the new power tonneau cover in place, there are also no rear ducts that come as part of the Z51 package (they've been moved under the car).
As with its predecessor, the tonneau is a handsome double-bubble piece, and the body-color "waterfall" element into the cabin between the seats has made it to the new model as well. Thus, the overall look with the top down should be a bit more familiar to prior-gen C6 owners - if you're one of those put off by the C7's new shape, you'll probably appreciate the convertible bodystyle more than the coupe.
GM to squeeze out more production capacity for midsize trucks
Tue, May 26 2015General Motors was predicting a strong showing for the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon before they debuted, and demand among dealers for the midsize trucks even exceeded company's expectations. The positive situation has left GM with a problem, though: finding ways to increase capacity for the pickups at the Wentzville Assembly plant in Missiouri. With a third shift already running, GM has continued to look for ways to build just a few more of the trucks at the plant. The company has plans to hire as many as 1,000 more workers for the Saturday and Sunday shifts to construct an additional 2,000 pickups a month, according to unnamed insiders at the factory speaking to Automotive News. The little adjustments even extend to getting rid of an unpaid break to add 18 minute of assembly time over the course of a day, which equals about 3,500 more vehicles a year. All of this effort comes because the trucks are in such high demand. According to GM's figures, the company has delivered a combined 35,720 units of the Colorado and Canyon from January through April 2015, and the Chevy was the fastest-selling truck in the US for the previous three months. In May, it spent an average of just 12 days in showrooms before being snapped up. And even better for the company, 43 percent of these buyers came from other brands. According to Automotive News, the most popular trade-ins have included the Ford F-150, Toyota Tacoma, and Dodge Dakota. Related Video:
