Up for grabs is my 1957 Chevy Bel Air 2 door hardtop. These cars are some of the most sought after automobiles by about every type of auto enthusiast from hot rodders to high end collectors these cars have been the holy grail of hot rods from the start. And unlike a lot of the cars the 57 Bel Air 2 door Hardtops not only hold their value they continue to rise. Here is your chance to get in on the action. My father in Law gave me this car about 10 years ago for my birthday. It had been parked since 1981 in my father in laws barn and needed work then, so when i had recieved it of course it was in need of full restoration. But I didn't care because it was a 57 Bel Air 2 door Hardtop. I figured that after I completed my existing project at the time (which happens to still be my existing project) myself or at least my son would get it done someday. The longer it sits the worse its gonna get so i figured i would give someone else the chance at restoring it the way it should be before theres nothing left to restore. So as the story goes as with time i am listing it here today. I really dont know anything about the car other than it is all original minus the trunk lid (was hit by a flying truck tire) and was replaced. Also the Carb, intake and valve covers are from a Corvette. The only piece missing is the front seat, a friends friend was restoring one and needed it, i knew mine would probably never get used even if i did restore the car so I let it go, at a hefty price of coarse. I tried to get the best pics I could to explain the condition, but here are the basics. The floors are pretty much non existant not completely but the majority. Rocker panels are gone. Rust behind the front wheels, pot metal chrome has pitting, body panels straight with exception of rust. The motor does not run currently, i am assuming the rings are stuck have not tried to spray anything in the plug holes or anything just because again i would not have used the same engine I think a guy could probably get it goin with a little effort because it did run when he parked it just smoking bad. The trunk seems to be fairly solid but I have not looked because the factory mat is still intact and didn't want to ruin it taking it out. Headliner is in good shape would clean up nice I think, the back seat is in good shape just filthy some good strong soap would do wonders. Under the hood looks complete as mentioned was driving it before it was parked. I guess for lack of knowledge of the car just ask me any questions and I will get the answers for you between my father in law and myself we will get answers back to you. Also if there are some specific photos you want let me know and I'll do my best to get them. My reserve is significantly less than my buy it now price. Good luck to all

The Volt Dance had precedent; meet the Chevy Footlockers

Sun, Dec 14 2014

Marketing in the auto industry can get weird sometimes – really quite bizarre, in fact. For example, remember the Chevy Volt dance from the 2009 Los Angles Auto Show? If not, a group boogied to a song about the electric car, and it was every bit as awkward (and hilarious) as that sounds. In fact, that innocent bit of promotion lives in infamy, as some pundits grabbed hold of it during General Motors' bailout and asked why America's tax dollars were going to such things. The Chicago Auto Show has been digging through its vault of vintage videos, and it has come up with something that might actually be worse than that Volt-themed routine. They're called the Chevy Footlockers, and they're a dance troupe somehow promoting the Cavalier at the 1988 Chicago show. The connection between the car and their routine is unclear, but it's gloriously cheesy in a Chippendales-meets-AC Slater sort of way. Also, there are props towards the end, but we aren't going to spoil them for you, because you just have to watch for yourself. As a bonus, there's another (brief) clip below showing a female dance group with the Geo Tracker at the '91 Chicago show, and they sing, too. Scroll down to watch both of these oddities. Amelia Island 2013: Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray from concepts to split windows

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

While this year marks 60 years of the Chevrolet Corvette, the 2013 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance focused on one of the coupe's most sought after models, the 1963 Sting Ray. General Motors design boss Ed Welburn was on hand to show off the all-new C7 Corvette, but even the hard-edged styling of the 2014 Stingray couldn't take away from the beautiful 1963 models sitting out on the field.
In addition to the original Sting Ray and the 1959 Sting Ray Concept, some of the other classic 'Vettes included "Big Tank" racecars, an interesting cutaway coupe, a right-hand-drive Z06 and the attention-grabbing 1963 Corvette Rondine by Pininfarina. Another impressive Corvette was the 1964 Corvette XP-819 rear-engine prototype. Owner Mike Yager had the car finished as a driving chassis for this year's show, but promises the car will be back to its original glory in time for next year's event.

Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.
