1956 Chevrolet Bel Air 4 door sedan, 3 owner car, bought new in Huntsville, AL, 76K original miles.  This car is still equipped with its original power pack 4 barrel engine, power glide transmission, and AM radio.  This car has been in dry storage since 1983.

I got the car a few years ago.  It needed some TLC, after having sat for a couple of decades.  I pulled the engine and transmission out to replace rusty freeze plugs, cleaned out the water jackets, replace broken transmission mounts.  I also installed an aftermarket aluminum radiator and rebuilt the brake system hydraulics.

The carburetor had been rebuilt in its past, so engine just needed a tune up, and clean gas to start up, which I did.  The engine purrs just like it should.  The power glide leaks badly but works fine.  Transmission needs to be resealed, it shifts just fine.

Car has a new aluminum radiator, new battery, new brake master cylinder, new gas tank, and new rear brake shoes (still in the box) that come with the car.  The car now has four black 15 x 6 steel wheels and tires with 1500 miles on them.  See the picture of the black wheel with the Kumho tires; these are on all four corners now.

Car has three small rust areas.  Small holes in the driver's side floor board, a small section of the right rear trunk floor, and the trunk pan area.

Front and rear bumpers are present, but stored in the attic.  No significant rust or dents on the bumpers.

Car was partially disassembled in preparation for paint, but never got painted.  I believe all of the trim is with the car, but the mounting clips, etc. may be missing.

This car needs a good home.  I will not separate parts from the car.  Serious inquiries only.  Car can be driven onto a car trailer, etc but is NOT legal or safe to drive on the street as is.  I did, however, drive it up to 50 mph last weekend.

I have an Alabama registration in my name and buyer will get a notarized bill of sale.  Alabama does not title cars this old.  The registration and bill of sale is sufficient to get buyer a title in states that issue titles for 1956 vintage cars.

This is a great father – son project, a weekend tinker project, or a full blown restoration project.  You could continue the disassembly for a complete restoration, or spend a weekend putting the car back together and drive it as is.

I am reluctantly selling this car for health reasons.

I might be interested in a trade for US coins, US WWII vintage military decorations, or a small truck (like an S-10) of equal value.  I do not want a project truck, I am getting rid of my projects.  Let me know what you have; the worst that can happen is that I will say no.

Buyer is responsible for all shipping charges.  I will assist as needed.

Note:  If you are an interested bidder, and you have a Feedback rating of 5 or less, contact me prior to bidding.  If I cannot contact you or determine your intention, I will cancel your bid.

My apologies to all in advance, but the misbehavior of a few make this a necessary step.

Weekly Recap: Autonomous driving goes commercial in Nevada

Sat, May 9 2015

Nevada granted Daimler Trucks North America the first license to run an autonomous commercial vehicle on public roads in the United States Tuesday, marking another milestone in the technology's rapid advancement. Gov. Brian Sandoval and Daimler truck chief Wolfgang Bernhard promptly used the license to lap Highway 15 near Las Vegas in a newly revealed Freightliner Inspiration Truck. It was a clear signal that autonomous driving is big-rig reality, though it's still a long way from widespread use. Nevada certified two of Daimler's Freightliner Inspiration Trucks, which use the company's Highway Pilot system with a stereo camera, radar, and lane-keeping collision-prevention features to regulate the brakes and steering. The radar component has a long-range sensor that can cover 820 feet at an 18-degree angle and a shorter-range unit that stretches 230 feet at a 130-degree angle. The Inspiration trucks are based on the existing Freightliner Cascadia Evolution model used on US roads. In addition to the autonomous technologies, it also has futuristic design cues, including blue lighting in the front and a new hood and grille. While there are only two Freightliner Inspiration trucks in existence, Daimler expects to bring the Highway Pilot system into mass-produced big rigs by 2025, in time to capitalize on the market's predicted growth. The German truckmaker predicts the global hauling market will triple by 2050, and the United States will be a key part of that growth. Trucks carry 69.1 percent the nation's domestic freight tonnage and hauled 9.7 billion tons of freight in 2013, according to the American Trucking Association. Daimler expects autonomous driving to augment this growth, and perhaps evolve the role of the truck driver. Still, the company points out autonomous tech is not meant to replace drivers, but to assist them and relieve fatigue and monotony on long hauls. The driver has to stay in control for passing, in city traffic, and when hooking up the trailer. The company said autonomous driving also offers the potential for improved fuel economy – tests showed a five-percent gain – and lower maintenance costs. Daimler also said the technology could reduce congestion on the road. Much of this is attributable to the constant flow of traffic, which is aided by autonomous driving. While the benefits are becoming increasingly apparent, autonomous technology is still met with skepticism.

Refreshed 2014 Camaro confirmed for New York debut

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

We've already seen leaked specs and potential spy shots, but the refreshed 2014 Chevrolet Camaro will make its official debut at the New York Auto Show in a few weeks.
Besides a tweaked exterior and the possibility of a high-output LS7 under the hood, we really don't know much else about the 2014 Camaro, but here's hoping for an improved interior, too.
In addition to the refreshed Camaro, Chevrolet will also be showing off the recently introduced Chevrolet SS, making its debut on the auto show circuit, and we'll also get our first look at the C7 Corvette coupe and convertible side-by-side.

Dodge vs. Chevy tug-of-war taken to the extreme

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

They say "idle hands are the devil's playground," but said playgrounds grow to Disney-sized proportions when a pair of jacked-up trucks, two egos, a chain and an empty mall parking lot are involved. Proof of this is the video below, which shows a Cummins-powered Dodge Ram circa 2006 to 2008 chained tail-to-tail with what looks to be a gasoline-powered Chevrolet Silverado from the late 1990s or early 2000s.
We don't necessarily have to tell you who wins this battle, but we'll let you see for yourself the lengths the "winning" driver goes to prove his point. There's plenty of foul language in the video below, so beware that this might be Not Safe For Work, and not that we should have to tell you, but please, do not try this at home.
