This was my everyday driver, I have a company car now and need to sell the truck to help pay for private tuition.  This is a 4 door truck/Avalanche and has been really nice for me.  I love having the bed and the 4 doors.  I had a local shop paint the truck flat/satin black. My son wanted to go for the zombie apocalypse look and it really worked out nice.  I had all side windows tinted 5% limo to match the truck.  The rear removable window is factory tinted and I didn't change it.  The rear factory window comes out and has an inside storage area for the window.  You can also fold down the rear seats and have a longer bed that is open to the back.  I believe this was a one year only option on the Avalanche and 2002 was the one with this very desired option.  I put in new front headlights, running lights, rear taillights when the truck was painted.  I also put on two new outside side mirrors.  The ones I purchased are heated mirrors but the truck doesn't have this option.  The mirrors have the heated symbol but they don't work.  The mirrors from the inside controls go down and out, but not up and in - I believe this is because I bought the wrong mirrors.  This is not a big issue to me, but I wanted to be up front.  The outside mirrors have the puddle lights.  The interior seats have no rips and are in perfect like new condition.  There is a little foam wear on the drivers side bolster from getting in/out but the factory seat cover isn't ripped and it isn't horrible.  The carpet is starting to show its age, but it isn't horribly stained or ripped.  I was going to install black carpet if I kept the truck.  The headliner is perfect and no stains.  The center console is perfect and isn't ripped anywhere.  The dash is not cracked and is in perfect condition.  The digital dash cluster is out (lights only) but the gauges work.  I have a Snap-On diagnostic computer that I can plug in and show the actual mileage.  I have been told the cluster can be repaired for $125 and wouldn't mind having it fixed if a deal is made on the truck with the buyer.  Even though the cluster is out the mileage still keeps running and its only the visible light part of the cluster that is out, you can search for more details on this issue. There is no check engine light on and I still drive it everyday after work.  Two door panels show a small cut/divot in the door panel. I took pictures of the areas.  The one on the drivers door is inside the handle area about the size of a dime.  The one on the passenger rear panel is about the size of a nickel.  The body shop where I had the truck painted said they are small cuts in the vinyl and they can be repaired rather easily.

I had the truck painted last year with base coat/clear coat and had a flattener used in the clear coat.  This looked great for about six months until my son used a sponge and a shammy with wax residue on it and it turned my lower moldings transparent white where he rubbed on the truck.  While this paint procedure produced a much flatter look it wasn't the look I was going for anyway.  Last month I had the body shop paint it again but this time I wanted the flat/satin look and used a Dupont Hot Hues Hot Rod Black 2k Urethane paint.  This has the same UV protection as the other and has better color retention.  This is also a popular paint product that keeps it sheen and color for years.  This is not the "paint it primer black and go with it" that turns all white after six months like the old days.  If you would like paint pictures of the before and now paint job just let me know.  The truck also started out originally painted from factory gloss black and I had them leave the jambs gloss black in the even I ever wanted to go back (but I wouldn't even if I was keeping the truck).

The truck runs and drives great and drives smoother and better than my wifes 07 Denali.  The tires are worn and need replacing but it still drives excellent and smooth.  I was going to change the rims and tires and go black if I kept the truck.  If the truck sells at reserve and the new owner wants the factory rims that are pictured on the truck painted flat/satin black like the rest of the truck I will have it done at the shop.  The AC blows super cold, I had the high pressure AC line replaced over the summer and had it evac and recharged at that time, holds the charge and doesn't leak anywhere.  The heat blows super hot and will run you out of the truck once it warms up to regular engine temperature.  The right rear window is slow to go down and up - probably needs a window motor to be fast like the rest of the windows (common GM issue) but it still rolls up and down - just slow.  All of the rest of the defrost, rear defrost, interior/exterior rear cargo lights, fog lights, everything else works as it should.  There are a few lights out on the radio (some of the buttons do not light up like the rest of them).  I can take a picture for you if this is an issue showing you which ones.

I think I have detailed everything about the truck, if you have any questions or are near Nashville TN and want to see and test drive it just message me.  I do have the truck for sale local and reserve the right to end the auction if it hasn't reached the reserve.  The reserve is much less than I am asking for the truck.  The truck is sold as is condition, as stated.  I require a $1000 deposit via Paypal once the truck is sold, remainder can be paid via Paypal or cash in person upon pickup.  The truck needs to be picked up within three weeks upon the end of auction.  If the truck is paid in full I can store the truck for longer if you are working out details for transportation.  I will not be in the middle of working out transport, that is your responsibility.  I will not take any bank transfers, checks, checks for more than the sale amount etc.

For more pictures or specific information about the truck please message me.  I have a clean and clear title in hand.

Junkyard Gem: 1988 Chevrolet Spectrum Sport Coupe

Wed, Aug 23 2023

Before General Motors created the Geo brand for cars built or designed by its overseas partners, the Chevrolet Division put its badges on U.S.-market versions of the Toyota Corolla Sprinter, the Suzuki Cultus and the Isuzu Gemini. Those cars were known as the Nova, the Sprint and the Spectrum, and all became Geos starting with the 1989 model year. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of the last Chevy Spectrums ever sold, found in a Denver self-service yard a few months ago. Midway through 1988, the Chevrolet Spectrum abruptly became the Geo Spectrum and was assigned to the 1989 model year. This car was built in May 1988, making it one of the very last of the pre-Geo Spectrums. The Chevrolet/Geo Spectrum was available as a four-door sedan and as a three-door hatchback, from the 1985 through 1989 model years. For 1988 only, a Spectrum Sport Coupe package, featuring some trim upgrades and these rad decals, could be had on the hatchback. This car was essentially identical to its Isuzu-badged counterpart, the I-Mark. In 1988, the MSRP for the cheapest possible Chevy Spectrum hatchback (the stripped-down Spectrum Express) was $6,495, while its somewhat better-equipped I-Mark twin started at $7,439 (that's $17,128 and $19,617 in 2023 dollars). Meanwhile, the base Hyundai Excel hatchback listed at $5,295 and the Yugo GV cost a hilarious $4,199 ($13,963 and $10,941 in today's money). Power came from this 1.5-liter SOHC four-cylinder, rated at 70 horsepower. A turbocharged version with 110 horsepower was available as well. You could get an automatic transmission in the Spectrum, but this car has the base five-speed manual. This car didn't get the optional air conditioning, but at least it has the traditional Isuzu HVAC control icons featuring blow-dried hair and high-heeled dominatrix boots. Just over 170,000 miles on the odometer. Someone installed a pretty good (for the 1980s) Blaupunkt Charlotte CR148 cassette deck in the dash. This was a necessity if you wanted to enjoy full appreciation of the music of the era. The Spectrum is special! It's as slick as city rain. "I didn't spend a lot of money but with my Spectrum it looks like I did." Joe Isuzu mocked Toyota salesmen when pitching the I-Mark. As was nearly always the case during the 1980s, the JDM ads for the same car were much more fun. They should have recreated this commercial with Spectrums.

GM program sees dealers taking on way more loaner cars

Wed, Dec 17 2014

Given the volume of vehicles we're talking about, this is a significant development for GM's bottom line. Bring your car into the dealership for service, and you may need a loaner car in exchange. And with so many recalls being carried out, that means a lot of loaners – especially at General Motors dealerships. That could be one of the reasons why GM is massively expanding its loaner fleet program. While many Chevrolet and Buick-GMC dealerships have an on-site rental car location operated by a third party like Enterprise (which may or may not provide a GM vehicle), others manage their own loaner fleets. But while the range of dealerships operating such fleets was once small, reports Automotive News, the number has been growing rapidly: from the locations responsible for only 20 percent of those brands' sales two years ago to about 90 percent today. The impetus for that growth comes down to a massive expansion of GM's Courtesy Transportation Program. The initiative encourages dealers to ramp up their loaner fleet to a maximum size determined by GM, with a mix determined by the dealer itself, so that a showroom in Texas can be bolstered with a fleet of pickup trucks and a dealer in California can employ more Volt and Camaro Convertible loaners. The dealership gets a $500 credit for each vehicle its puts in its fleet, and can use those vehicles as loaners for service customers, as multi-day test drivers or to rent out separately. The vehicles remain in the dealer's fleet for 90 days or 7,500 miles, then they can be sold as used, but with new-car incentives. The dealer gets a fleet of loaners, customers get to use the loaners, try out a new car overnight or buy a barely used car with attractive incentives, and GM gets to clock more sales. But therein lies the kicker: the automaker counts the dispatch of the loaner new vehicle to the dealership as a new-car sale, which could end up distorting its sales figures. Counting loaner vehicles as sold vehicles is something of an industry-standard practice, but given the volume of vehicles we're talking about, this is a significant development for GM's bottom line. One dealership - Paddock Chevrolet in Kenmore, NY, for example - had no loaner fleet two years ago, but now runs a fleet of 50 vehicles. Multiply that by the 4,000 or so dealers GM has across America and you're talking about the potential for hundreds of thousands of these sorts of sales.

Motor Trend reveals 2016 Chevy Camaro as Car of the Year

Tue, Nov 17 2015

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro beat some very steep competition to earn the Golden Calipers as Motor Trend's Car of the Year. The magazine praised the sixth generation's fantastic engines, great handling, and lighter platform. "Our 2016 Car of the Year, the Chevrolet Camaro, is one of the finest driving vehicles in the world at any price," editor-in-chief Edward Loh said, "though its price is well within reach of the average consumer." The Camaro conquered some high-performance challengers to take the victory, including the Audi TT, Mazda MX-5 Miata, and Mercedes AMG GT S. It also bested technologically cutting-edge vehicles like the BMW 7 Series and Toyota Mirai. The latest Honda Civic rounded out the competition. To earn the prestigious award, nine judges evaluated the finalists in six categories: advancement in design, engineering excellence, safety, efficiency, value, and performance of intended function. The Volkswagen Golf won last year. In an engaging story on Motor Trend's website, it explains what a revelation the new coupe is and that they consider the model the best production pony car ever. The piece is well worth a read. Motor Trend also handed out the Person of the Year honor to Subaru of America President and Chief Operating Officer Thomas Doll. It praised him for the Japanese brand's massive success in the US like tripling deliveries since 2007. "By any measure, the business Tom Doll leads is an outstanding success," editor-at-large Angus MacKenzie said. "And he is the person whose unique vision and quiet leadership made it happen."
