This vehicle is powered by the VR38DETT, Nissan's 3.8L, double overhead camshaft (DOHC), 24-valve twin-turbocharged V6 engine. Per Nissan, "each engine is crafted by its own master technician in a clean-room environment." During manufacturing, the advanced Plasma-Transferred Wire Arc thermal spraying method is used to apply a super-thin iron coating to the cylinder walls. This saves weight by eliminating iron cylinder sleeves. Plus, oil adheres to this coating incredibly well, allowing for superior lubrication. This results in a high-durability, low-friction bore. Other advanced features include Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS) on intake valves, aluminum block and pistons, Nissan Direct Ignition System, iridium-dipped spark plugs, electronic drive-by-wire throttle, pressurized lubrication system with thermostatically controlled cooling & magnesium oil sump, fully symmetrical dual intake and low back-pressure exhaust system, and secondary air intake system to rapidly heat catalysts to peak cleaning efficiency!
This has to be Nissan most advanced drivetrain ever! It features the ATTESA E-TS All-Wheel Drive (AWD) with patented independent rear-mounted transaxle integrating transmission, differential and AWD transfer case. This system has a traction/yaw-based torque distribution with up to 100% rear & up to 50% front. Other advanced drivetrain components include rigid, lightweight carbon-composite main propeller shaft, high-performance 1.5-way mechanical limited-slip rear differential, Electronic Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Start Assist (prevents rollback when starting on an incline), and Advanced Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with three driver-selectable modes (Normal, R-Mode, Off):
Normal - For daily driving. Controls brakes and engine output.
R-Mode - For ultimate performance. Adjusts front and rear wheel power distribution to enhance handling.
Off - Disengages the VDC system.
The GT-R also features a highly-sophisticated dual clutch 6-speed transmission with fully automatic shifting or full sequential manual control via steering column-mounted paddle shifters, Downshift Rev Matching three driver-selectable modes:
Normal - For maximum smoothness.
R-Mode - For maximum performance with the quickest shifts.
Snow - For more gentle shifting of gears.
Predictive pre-shift control (in R-Mode) preselects the next gear change based on throttle position, vehicle speed, braking input and other information.
All this amazing power is brought to a halt with a Nissan/Brembo braking system - 4-wheel disc brakes, 15.4" front and 15.0" rear two-piece floating-rotors with diamond-pattern internal ventilation, super-rigid 6-piston front/4-piston rear monoblock calipers with racecar-inspired 3-point radial mounting, 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD).
Nothing says supercar like an advanced, performance-driven suspension! The GT-R's suspension features double wishbone front suspension with aluminum arms, multi-link rear suspension with aluminum arms, rigid front and rear suspension subframes (assembled in high-precision jigs similar to a racecar, with 6-point mounting to body), hollow front & solid rear stabilizer bars to help maintain maximum tire contact at all four wheels during cornering, and Bilstein DampTronic suspension system with three driver-selectable modes:
Normal - For automatic electronic control of damping.
R-Mode - For high-performance cornering. The damping force of the shock absorbers is set for maximum vehicle performance.
Comfort - The damping force of the shock absorbers is variably adjusted for more comfort.
Plus, the GT-R comes with vehicle-speed-sensitive power steering and 2.4 steering-wheel turns lock-to-lock for ultimate steering control!
It is loaded with safety features! Besides the advanced vehicle dynamic control (VDC) with electronic traction control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), & electronic brake force distribution (EBD), there is also the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt & occupant-classification sensors, driver and front-passenger seat mounted side-impact supplemental air bags, roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags for front occupant head protection, front seat belts with pretensioners & load limiters, front seat belt pretensioners & load limiters, accomodation for 4-point safety harness installation in front seats, LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren), Zone Body construction with front & rear crumple zones, hood buckling creases, energy-absorbing steering column, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with individual tire pressure display, and emergency inside trunk release!
