The Van runs and drives good. I just got back from a 4th of July road/camp trip with my son. We put around 400 miles on it without any issues. It does not overheat, it reached 90* outside on our trip and we did not have any issues. It does need front brakes and I can do them if you are driving it back to your home. I can also meet/pickup anyone at the PDX airport if they want to drive it back.

I will try and be as specific as possible as I know it’s hard to buy a car without even test driving it. It's located in Portland, OR and you are more than welcome to swing by or send someone out for you. Just give me a call ahead of time. I can take pictures of anything you want and also record video with my dumb phone.

The Engine was replaced by the previous owner’s dad. It was his dad's van but he had passed away. No paperwork was found on the engine replacement so I could not verify that. It did pass our Portland DEQ emissions test and have the paper to prove it. The odometer reads 242,000 miles and I doubt it’s the original motor. I does run well, no loud valve ticking like others I looked at. It did not use or leak oil on the last trip. I changed the oil and it’s still full. There is a small amount of residue under the engine so there may be a slight weep of oil, but no huge black puddles in my driveway.

The Transmission was replaced when I got it. A used transmission was found at the local salvage yard. Drained and refilled the gear oil. Installed a brand new clutch and so far so good. It does have issues with the shifter, its kind of sloppy. I’m sure the bushings are worn out.

The Interior is in decent shape. The fridge works both on 12 volts and on propane. It’s missing the knobs for the propane. I just used a socket on a ratchet to light it up when using it. I have yet to look for a new knob, I'm sure someone sells them. The water tank holds water, the electric water pump works but its super loud. Once it’s primed, the manual pump on the sink works too. I've just used it to wash hands and dishes. The two burner stove works well, super simple match light propane stove. The propane heater works, but it takes quite a few times to get it started. The upper sleeping area does not have a foam pad. The top is in ok shape. It’s not super bad, just not brand new. The window screen has a repair on it. There is a small hole in the back of it, but it works. There is a spot in the center of the floor for a table, but the table grew 3 more legs and walked off.

Up front everything seems to work. Aftermarket stereo works, Dash gauges work, Lights work with the exception of the turn signal indicator. Both front and rear heaters work. Seats are not the most comfortable but they are there and not all ripped up. The door locks work with the exception of the sliding door key, it only locks from he inside.

The exterior will need some attention. There is various dents and dings throughout the entire van. A few rust spots are around but it’s all fixable. A rust hole is by the back window and another one in the driver’s side battery compartment. Both should be easy fixes. All the lights work, as do the windshield wipers. Rims and tires are in great shape.

The camper conversion was done by ASI in Vancouver,WA. If your not familiar with them, they were Westfalias direct competitor. The conversions were nearly identical in concept. There is no major differences in quality or function. Its like comparing a Ford to a Chevy or Dodge. Everyone has their opinions and rants on which is better. I have a Westfalia and truthfully I like the ASI better. The full pop tops on the ASI have more room. The material of the top is more like a tent material compared to the Westy canvas that rots easily. There is more storage space in the cabinets. Most Westys don’t have the propane heater. The domestic fridge seems to work better, it actually gets cold and ice forms on the inside coils. The list goes on.   Just Google them for more info.

I picked up this Vanagon with the intentions of restoring it. I had been looking for an earlier bus but settled with this. Shortly after buying this, I found a 1972 Bus with the Westfalia conversion and a watercooled engine conversion. It too needs a little work which is why I am selling this one.

I am not guaranteeing anything nor am I warranting anything. This is a 30 year old VW that will need work, they all do. If you want a brand new one, go buy one from GoWesty for $50,000. It does run and drive and I would easily take my 7 year old with me into the backwoods of Oregon without a cell phone, just not without a tool box and a repair manual. I have a Bentley manual that does NOT go with it. I highly suggest that you get one. If you are flying in to pick it up, I will do my best to make sure it’s good to go for you but I will not be responsible for any problems that may arise. I can and will meet with a shipping company if you are having it shipped to you. You must arrange the shipping. I would try uship.com
Again let me know if you have any questions or want more info about something and I'll do my best to answer.
