This is my wife’s car, but she’s decided she wants an SUV, so it has to go.

This is a smooth-running, smooth-shifting, EXTREMELY powerful sports coupe that has given us no trouble whatsoever in the year we’ve had it.  We put 10,000 miles on the car during the past year, mostly on trips up the coast and back-and-forth to Vegas (the A/C is ice-cold, and the Lexus never overheats), with no issues at all.

The first-generation SC400 was Motor Trend’s “Import Car of the Year” in the year it was introduced, and was on Car And Driver’s “10 Best List” for its entire (too short) life.  Here are the details.

MECHANICAL ISSUES

  • There’s just one:  as with almost all 1990s Lexus cars, the Climate Control Display is faded.  I have a new unit (which will go with the car, obviously), but haven’t yet installed it.

COSMETIC ISSUES

  • When I bought the car, the clear-coat was fading on the car’s ‘nose.’  I had it re-painted, but the color-matching didn’t come out well, so the nose is discernibly darker than the rest of the car.  (See photo below.)
  • There are some chips on the doors of the car.  They’re hard to see in the photos…because they’re hard to see in ‘real life.’
  • There is a single tear on the driver’s seat, which I have been meaning to have fixed but haven’t, and the leather boot for the parking brake is cracking.  (See photo below.)

DELIVERY

  • Following full payment, I will deliver the car anywhere within 750 miles of Los Angeles, California for 75 cents per mile.

SMOG

  • The car will be sold to California buyers with a current California smog certificate.
