1950 Oldsmobile Futuramic Rocket 88 Sedan

This 1950 Rocket 88 Sedan was purchased new at DeLon Oldsmobile in Salem, Oregon. Some years later, it was traded back to the dealership with just over 20,000 miles on the odometer. The DeLons recognized the uniqueness of this car and it remained in the dealership's collection for many years, being displayed on the showroom floor. It recently passed to several collectors and is now being made available.

This car is an amazing time capsule. Completely RUST-FREE throughout. The paint is largely original. It appears to have had just a few areas of paint over the years in the correct "Chariot Red" color. Paint is in excellent condition for being nearly 65 years old for the mostpart. A few thin spots at the crowns of the front fenders, the result of polishing over the years. Please see photos, which were taken last week. Chrome and stainless are excellent throughout.

The interior is spectacular. It is entirely original and untouched, corroborating the low, original mileage. Seats are excellent with no rips or tears. Fabric is tight and resilliant with no musty smell. Rubber floor mats are in excellent condition. It is truly a time capsule. Again, please see the photos.

Mechanically, this Olds is exceptional. The 303 cubic inch "Rocket 88" V8 runs without fault. Great power. No smoke or noises. The Hydramatic transmission shifts as it should. Truly a pleasure to drive. Please see video of engine running. Brakes stop the car smooth and straight. Older original U.S. Royal wide whitewall tires.

There is little to add, except the old phrase, "They're only original once!" This car would be welcome as a preservation class entry at any car show. As a driver, it's just warmed up and will provide many miles of pleasurable cruising, for many years to come.

A realistic reserve has been placed on this car, in keeping with its condition, originality and low mileage. Please bid accordingly.
