Introduced in 1961, the E-Type roadster proved to be an immediate success. Designed under the guidance of Sir William Lyons, the car was a longer and lower version of Jaguar's D-Type. Manufactured between 1961 and 1975, its combination of good looks, high performance, and competitive pricing established the marquee as an icon of 1960s motoring. On its release Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made".
Completed on October 18, 1966 and dispatched shortly after on October 27
th through Jaguar Cars of New York, 1E13703 was purchased new by Carlisle G. Hartman of St. Louis, Missouri. Acquired from meticulous and long-term ownership this desirable Series I Coupe comes beautifully presented and ready to enjoy or show, wearing a most appropriate British Racing Green over Biscuit leather upholstery complemented by chrome wire wheels with eared knockoffs.
With limited ownership (only three caretakers from new), the car benefits from a complete nut-and-bolt restoration by Jaguar specialist Jon Rhodes in 1994, and continues to present beautifully today as a true testament to the quality of repair. Photographic documentation of the entire process is included with the sale. Shortly after, the OTS was awarded 99.6 points by Jaguar Clubs of North America at the Potomac, Maryland Councours event.
This stunning example represents one of the most desired Jaguar models to date in iconic British livery. The choice paintwork shows well as does the cabin's leather appointments. Polished trim, brightwork and complimenting chrome wire wheels complete the presentation. Nicely detailed, the Roadster would credit to any collection, complete with the very important restored jack in pouch, tools in roll and Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.
The original numbers-matching 4.2 Litre motor runs very well, pulls strong and runs cool; shifting from the transmission precise. Lights and signals are in proper working order, including the wipers and instruments. The original radiator and fan were substituted with more efficient units, while the factory originals accompany. Within the last two years, the Jaguar has received an exponential amount of mechanical freshening addressing all systems with no expense spared - all records, receipts and applicable warranties are also included.
The revered 1967 XKEs are the last to wear closed headlamps and possess the triple-carbureted un-smoged 4.2L motor - its combination of great looks and lively power produced one of the greatest examples Jaguar ever manufactured. To find a Series 1 Coupe is such condition with original accessories and attractive colors further add to the appeal - a great find for the jaguar enthusiast and offered at tremendous value in today's marketplace.
