OVERVIEW

 

I HATE THIS. I wish I didn’t have to, but it is time to part with my little buddy, and I hope it finds an appreciative new owner that will continue to take care of it like I do.

 

This 1972 Chevelle Wagon is just the coolest set of wheels EVER, and it is a street machine to the car, ready and waiting to chew up miles in town or on the highway.

DESCRIPTION

 

 

 

Did you ever have to sell one of your toys because it was the “responsible” and “smart” thing to do, even though every single fiber of your body screamed NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO when you thought about it? That’s what I am going through right now, because as much as I don’t want to sell this wagon, I simply have to so I can get a new dually I need as our business expands.

 

This car is the bomb. It gets more attention than anything else you park it beside, hauls tons of gear, camping equipment, and swap meet finds, PLUS it can take you and up to nine of your friends to the Drive-In on $5 car load night!

 

It is solid. I mean, people throw laser, ruler, plumb line, and all these other words around on eBay when talking about the car they are selling, but please read and understand: THIS CAR IS SUPER INCREDIBLE AMAZING RIDICULOUS UNBELIEVABLE LASER STRAIGHT EDGE RAZOR straight.

 

The body is solid, and I can take my 4”x4” felt covered magnet around it and it sticks like glue.

 

There are no signs of chicken wire, beer cans, or other horrific backyard repairs on the car, and it is solid steel all the way around. From the rockers to the door jambs, dog legs to the roof, it is SOLID!

 

The paint on the car is HOUSE OF KOLOR Oriental and Cobalt Blue Kandy custom blended for this application. It looks glossy, slick, wet, and shiny and shows just as nice in the noon-day sun as it does under the streetlights hollow glow.

 

As you would imagine in a car that gets driven almost daily, it does a have a few little minor marks from normal use on it. These are little (2-3mm) stone chips, hair width scuffs, and other tiny marks, most of which are on the front lower fascia and where the rockers turn underneath the body. As you can see in the photos, it really doesn’t have anything at all wrong with it, and I have entered it into local and regional shows often, where it usually ends up with a PEOPLE’S CHOICE, BEST WAGON, or BEST PAINT prize.

 

It gets hand waxed once a month without exception, and if it isn’t in my garage at home, it is sitting inside the showroom here at the dealership.

 

The chrome and bright work on the car is excellent, and practically all of it was new, or re-chromed when the car was restored a few years ago. From the door handles to the grill all the way back to the rear window handle, it is all in exceptional condition.

 

Headlamps, tail lamps, marker lights, and back-up lights were all new when the car was redone, and they all work perfectly.

 

The 3” cowl hood looks mean as heck on the car! I was going to put SS stripes on it awhile back, but decided not to. I still think it would look cool with them and a set of SS emblems!

 

Heck, you could get YENKO stripes and headrest decals and create the YENKO WAGON the dealer never made if you wanted to!

 

The chromed exhaust tips look cool peeking out from each side of the car’s rear, and they sound FANTASTIC too!

 

This beast rides on 18” FOOSE-designed BOSS rims wrapped in pretty fresh NITTO 555 radials on all four corners. They maybe have 1,300 miles on them since installed, and they have no damage, plugs, or issues. The rims are damage and issue free as well, and the satin finish with the polished lip looks amazing!

 

The car has a perfect stance thanks to an EIBACH lowering kit that gets it down on the wheels. Thanks to high-performance springs and shocks, along with front and rear sway bars, the ride stays supple on the highway, but lets you go crazy in the corners, all without bottoming-out or rubbing the tires.

 

All of the door seals, weather-stripping, regulators, and fuzzies were new when the car was restored, and still show exceptionally well today.

 

The wipers work great, but the RAIN-X coated windshield beads water off so well that you will probably never use them!

 

The rear window goes up and down smoothly, and the tailgate opens easily to show that it is just as clean, solid, and rust free as the rest of the car.

 

Open the hood, and you are met with the heart of this machine, a balanced and blueprinted GM 396/375hp BB with new Comp Cam, valve springs, lifters, timing gears, timing chain, starter, flex-plate, alternator, hi-volume water pump, 600cfm Edelbrock 4bbl, and a FLOWMASTER Flo-Pro performance exhaust system.

 

It is mated to a completely rebuilt GM 400 Turbo transmission with a mild shift kit, which send the power down the custom balanced driveshaft to the GM 12-Bolt rear with 3.73 gears in it right now. For around town and local cruising, it is perfect, but I swap in 3.08’s for long trips just to get the engine rev’s down when tackling 80 mph long-distance runs.

 

The combo has been pretty much fault free for me, except the carb needs a little tweaking when you get into higher altitudes because it spends the majority of its time at 6” above sea level! Other than that, it has NEVER left me stranded, let me down, or done anything funny. I am running Valvoline VR-1 in it, and suggest that the new owner does the same. It gets changed every 3 months or 3,000 miles no matter what, and always changes out clean without any debris or residue in it.

 

Oh, I have ALWAYS run PREMIUM FUEL in it, even when it was $4.65 a gallon, and do a bottle of Eastwood Ethanol Fuel Additive every tankful. It doesn’t sit still long enough to use STA-BIL or anything, but I would recommend it if you aren’t going to drive it 3-4 times a week like I do.

 

Oh yeah, the tank was pulled, cleaned, and re-coated with new lines and filters too.

 

It runs FANTASTIC! IT has a heaping helping of raw power, and will smoke the tires at will from a standstill or pass a line of cars in a snap!

 

Chassis is clean and solid on the car, and all the little bits that you would expect to be replaced during a refurbishment have been. No odd creaks, groans, or slop in the suspension or steering, and it rides and rolls along like it was only a couple years old.

 

The floors are solid and clean, and show no signs of rot or softness from front to back. Again, it is all BARE METAL, not gooped up “undercoating” sprayed on to hide stuff, so you can see what it looks like. Frame is rock solid and the car feels like a tank going down the road.

 

Braking is solid and sure thanks to power-assisted front disc’s couple with the rear drums. It scrubs off speed with ease, and has no abnormal fade, modulation, wander, or pulling. The master cylinder was recently replaced too, probably about 7 months ago.

 

Tracking is straight and true, and the car was just aligned about 8 months ago before a longer trip. Tire wear shows even and normal, and it feels as stable and sure at 30mph as it does at 80mph.

 

The inside of the car is in excellent condition, and shows wonderfully from any spot in the car.

 

Door panels, kick panels, side trim panels, and pillar covers all look fantastic, with no cracks or damage. The only thing to mention is that the silver bands on the door panels is showing a light patina from arms rubbing against them.

 

The headliner is in fantastic condition all the way from the back to the VERY LAST seam at the front. About 2 weeks ago, the seam just split, and I tried to pull it together and split it a bit more. It is not sagging or anything, and the rest of it is fine. You can push on all the seams and they are not brittle or anything, this one just decided to pop I guess. Shouldn’t be too difficult for any upholstery shop to repair. The guy I use is up in Pennsylvania until September, or I would have had it done.

 

All of the door pulls and window rollers look great and work like they should, and all of the glass is in fantastic condition as well, with no chips or cracks. I had it tinted in limo tint, but took it off because I know some people don’t like it, and some States frown on it. She does look pretty awesome all blacked out though!

 

 

Seats show wonderfully, and are super comfy too! You can fit three adults in the front, three in the back, and up to three smaller folks on the included rear facing jump seat. I currently keep a spare in the well just in case, but have the seat and it is in very good condition.

 

The carpet is in very good condition, with no damage, rips, or issues. It should clean up even nicer when you detail the car.

 

I am leaving the floor mats in it, and they are in very good condition too.

 

The whole rear has been covered in a thin carpet to make it show better than hard vinyl, and the floor section of the covering is removable.

 

The dash is solid and clean, and all of the factory gauges and odometer appear to functioning as they should. A set of aftermarket gauges to monitor oil pressure and temperature are also included and functional, and are mounted out of the way under the dash.

 

Ashtray and Cigar lighter are intact, and the glove box is lockable with a solid liner inside it.

 

All of the switches work as they should, and the dome light works, but I lost the cover for it somehow awhile back and have not ordered a replacement. NPD has them and they are cheap.

 

The air conditioning is SUPER cold, and the heater and defrost functions like it should as well.

 

Fan works on all speeds, and everything does what it should.

 

I have had 6 people, a cooler, canopy, and 6 show chairs in the back, and everyone was comfy for the 60 mile round-trip to a show and back. You can’t do that in a 32 Ford!

 

This thing holds a ton of stuff. I can’t believe all the things I hauled in it!!!

 

Power steering makes it so easy to drive that your Grandma might borrow it sometime, and all of the lights, horn, and E-brake are functioning like they should.

 

The stereo is an aftermarket AM-FM CD unit that was in the car when I got it, and I have only used it a handful of times, because it has worked sporadically since day one. I would rather hear the motor, so I don’t care to much, but if you want to put another head unit in, the car is wired for power and sound with speakers in place.

 

This is a bad little machine, and it is just so clean, solid, straight, and fun to drive that it is KILLING me to have to sell it.

 

If you drag yourself down here to Florida to see it, you will buy it. If you DRIVE it after you buy it, you will want to pay me even more!
