The X3 really was the first in the compact luxury crossover market.  This is the second generation of the BMW X3 which has new metal to compete with it's main competitors that are relatively new to the market.

The X3 would definitley still be considered the crossover of choice for the driving enthusiast, but has a really nice and forgiving suspension that makes the overall feel of this vehicle very appealing when you are talking about ride comparison.

Ride & Handling
The X3's new suspension is really forgiving even on the worst of pavement, really similar to the way BMW's small sedans feel on the road.  However, it maintains a sense of balance which really gives this X3 respect from even the most concerned "sport" drivers.  You can actually HURL this X3 into a corner, yes there is some body roll but it really steadies itself and will give you confidence to go fast!

You'll also find a standard rear bias all wheel drive system in the X3.  In MOST instances, you'll find that this X3 feels a lot like a 335i, not an x.... but an i. Really does a good impression of a rear wheel drive car that has pretty darn good feel to it. 

Contributing to both acceleration performance and fuel economy is the X3's new eight-speed automatic transmission. The addition of two more forward gears versus the old X3's automatic results in more optimized ratios, and the drivetrain gets an EPA-estimated 19/25 mpg city/highway. That's ahead of the all-wheel-drive Mercedes-Benz GLK350 (16/21) and the base engine in the all-wheel-drive XC60 (18/24).

The Inside

The X3's interior was recently redesigned and is going with the German flavor of minimalism.  Which does well throughout the entire vehicle, and also integrates the center screen much better.  It's nice to see the X3 bucks the trend of decreasing visibility that plagues many new cars. It has thin roof pillars and lots of glass, resulting in good all-around views.
