MG TF1500 Engine #XPEG 3433, Car #HDC36 9533, Body #TF20222

Well here it is. My dear MG TF1500. I've retired,  have a bad knee so of course I'm having  difficulties driving tiny cars. I apologize now if I ramble too much in my description.

After 18 years, this car is ready for a new and appreciative home. While it's certainly not perfect, it is in better than excellent condition. It does have small imperfections thru out. Paint chips that have been carefully touched up, although I don't believe it has any dents at all.  It proudly leaks VERY small amounts of fluids like most T-series cars have agreed to do decades ago. The clock doesn't work, the dual horns sound ehhh. While the car does have windshield wipers, and they do work, they are there mostly for your entertainment. There are some small scratches on the dash. Don't expect perfection, it's not. Perfection for one of these cars can cost upwards of $50 to $60k. What your getting is a car that's damn good. A car that has held up nicely over the years and restored into the beauty she is today. Bystanders are always amazed that a 59 year old vehicle can look this good. She's ready to be shown proudly at any local car show.

Ok, so let's go on. This TF 1500 has solid floors, actually, solid everything. No rust on the frame or fenders at all. New wiring harness. She sports her original wire wheels and excellent chrome thru out. The tires are near new Michelin X's like the car deserves. Pretty much everything is working as it should. Original drive train, new leather interior and carpeting. Top and side curtains are also almost new and in great condition like everything else. Oh, by the way they're premium canvas, not vinyl. Lasts longer, and looks far richer. A chrome valve cover was added in the past. There's a brass hammer for the wheel lugs, even a hand crank that I've never had the nerve to try.

She's been kept in a heated garage for the 18 years I've owned her. I've been in the heated garage she was kept in by the second owner who restored her during the 23 years he owned her. The second owner told me that the original owner of 18 years also had a heated garage for his collection and I believe it. It's doubtful this car has ever had any rust. When i bought her, the previous owner had this TF1500, 2 TD's and an MGA. All beautifully restored by his hand. He was retired and British iron was his passion for many years. He had to sell to make room for a TC he found that he wanted to bring back to pristine.

The undercarriage is in excellent condition, including all of the wood that is visible.. The engine fires up smoothly, is very quiet, has good oil pressure and doesn't smoke. The clutch, transmission, and brakes all appear to be in good working order. Windshield is crack free. Body is straight. Original color. Gauges are intact and in very nice preserved condition.

It has had some recent mechanical work to bring it out of its winter slumber, including a $130. Napa battery, tune, valve adjustment, rear brake calipers as they both decided to leak.

(As a side bar, if you've never owned an older car, MG, Ford, it doesn't matter, they were all designed to be maintained weekly, so if you bid, be ready for this, it's not monthly or every 10,000 miles, it's weekly!  heh heh heh)

The fuel tank was cleaned out last fall, carbs drained and completely fresh fuel added this spring. It starts easily, idles smoothly and evenly, drives & stops like an old antique British sports car should.

These cars are not luxurious by any stretch of the imagination, but their charm and draw is inescapable. They're driving position is normal for the passenger but very unique for the driver with the steering wheel very close to your chest. A delight once you get used to it. The octagon is the trademark of these T series MG's ... the instruments, the dipstick cap, I believe, 8 octagons in all. HISTORY OF THE MG TF1500

The TF Midget, launched 15 October 1953, was a face lifted TD, fitted with the TD Mark II engine, headlights faired into the fenders, a sloping radiator grille concealing a separate radiator, and a new pressurized cooling system along with a simulated external radiator cap. This XPAG engine's compression ratio had been increased to 8.1:1 and extra-large valves with stronger valve springs and larger carburetors  increased output to 57.5 bhp at 5,500 rpm.

In mid-1954 the engine capacity was increased by 17 per cent to 1466 cc and designated XPEG. The bore was increased to 72 mm (2.8 in) and compression raised to 8.3:1 giving 63 bhp (47 kW) at 5,000 rpm and a 17 per cent increase in torque. The car was now designated TF1500, and externally distinguished by a cream background enamel nameplate on both sides of the bonnet, placed just to the rear of the forward bonnet-release buttons.

Production ended at chassis number TF10100 on 4 April 1955 after 9,602 TFs had been manufactured, including two prototypes and 3,400 TF1500s. The TF was superseded by the MGA.

NOTE: This car has had brand new rear brake cylinders installed, NOT brake calipers as originally stated. As these cars have drum brakes, not disc, it was sort of a moot error on my part. Sorry for the confusion
